I don't get the comments that Royal is doing great in SJ and TX. The ships may be full but they are the cheapest fares in the North America market. Have prices started to rise with Liberty

You are not the only one that's thinking this. I think they would run into huge problems trying to fill a ship the size of Oasis from SJ. im not sure if prices have risen pit of TX but every time I do a generic search on Royal's site those cruises out of Galveston always show up as being some of the cheapest.

I don't personally see an Oasis in Galveston, for several reasons, but the Navigator's Miami/Europe routes is very likely.

San Juan would be good too, but the airport would be a nightmare.

From personal experience, I don't believe Galveston has the infrastructure to support an Oasis-Class ship. There are not enough hotels on the island, nor are there enough taxi's. Only a few hotels offer shuttle service. Traffic on and off the island could very possibly be grid-locked.

We no longer sail out of Galveston. Even though I like the town, there are too many issues, never mind the fog. JMO

Last time I went, it was a nightmare due to the renovations. I hope these renovations were extensive enough that they could possibly support a ship like Oasis in the future. The lucky thing though is that many will do pre/post cruise stays, even if for a night or two, so not everyone will be going to the airport at once. Or at least not as many as a cruise from Miami or Fort Lauderdale will give.

I cannot speak for Galveston, but for San Juan it has to do with the flight prices. For an SJ cruise that is $800 per person, and flights that are $400 per person, it'll equal $1200, but an FLL cruise that is $1000 and flights are $200, it also equals $1200. At that point, it becomes a battle over ship and ports. But San Juan cruises are cheap not only for Royal, but for every line that sails from SJ across the board, because the cruise lines know how much the flights are.

I flew once for $263 roundtrip from BWI both directs. I've also seen $550 roundtrip from here too. But a good amount of people in the country do not have those direct flight or cheap flight options, so $400 is just a general number.

Flying from South Florida, we prefer San Juan over Galveston, for flight cost AND itinerary.

I would any day as well. So many beautiful ports to see from San Juan. Galveston is a big drive-to port, and the only reason I included it was because being an avid Carnival cruiser as well, I know how much they benefit from the port. I personally will not cruise from Galveston, as it is a 4 hour flight, then a 1 hour bus ride, but for those who can drive to the ship in that area or that is their closest flight option, I included it. Because whether or not we East-Coast cruisers like it, those ships continuously sail full across all the lines.

If not O4, they could always place Quantum 4. Or replace the Vision with a bigger ship. Galveston could fall in a chain reaction.

However I digress, I 100% agree with you. San Juan and Southern Route over the repetitive Western route any day of the week.

Liberty is sailing full in Galveston and recurring comments by RCCL staff while cruising , and comments in Galveston that RCCL has been in discussion of a larger ship in Galvestion make it a possibility.

With New terminal and improvements to dock being completed reinforce it.

The port size can handle a larger ship than Freedom Class RCCL.

Vision also is coming in November 2017 .

Five ships are sailing out of Galveston presently. Disney, RCCL , 3 Carnival.

They are giving away the cruises out of Galveston - they always show up as the cheapest option year around on a per day $ basis.

I seriously doubt they want a bigger ship - that has to lower the prices even more to sail full...

Sailing full is guaranteed from almost any port these days they just keep adjusting the pricing - that is what they do out of Galveston and SJ that is why these 2 ports are always so cheap....

We don't know what economic advantages ($) Royal may be getting from Texas/Galveston that could easily make up the difference in cabin prices.

Carnival wanted our state to give them some incentives to keep a ship in our port. We said no....and they left.

No better place to take a cruise out of than San Juan. Now that Southwest is flying there we've gotten flights as low as $119 each way.....so really no different than flying to FLL.

I'm SOOO excited about southwest flying there now! We have lots of southwest points - when the Adventure improvements settle out we plan to take a look - this could definitely be our next cruise!!

Ovation: Australia and China

Quantum: China

Mariner: China and Southeast Asia

Voyager: Australia and China

Explorer: Austrlia, South Pacific (Alaska?)

Radiance: Ausralia, New Zealand (Alaska?)

No changes I guess.

As for another RCL ship in Asia, I doubt so it will happen. I will be very surprise if they do send another one here, especially the new-builds.

By the way: This news might interest you on Oasis 4...

There has already been a tweet by Captain Johnny denying that he said those comments that the article attributed to him.

With Galveston at the door step of Midwestern US ,

and with Houston soon to be the third largest city in US ,

and with 5 of the 11 fastest growing cities in US being in Texas

(Houston, San Antonio, Austin , Dallas, Ft Worth ) ,

and with terminal 1 in Galveston being one of largest Cruise Terminals ,

and with new and renovated terminal 2 completed in Galveston,

and with probability of a new terminal 3 in Galveston,

and with ISLAND already being a MAJOR tourist destination with 32 miles beach,

and with major historical Texas and US significance of the island ,

and with major historical museums and collection of Victorian homes ,

and with two international airports close by,

and with long term planning by current city and port administrations for Cruise industry ,

and with continued increases in Hotel rooms in Galveston ,

and with continued better services for transfers for port of air passengers,

and with a big need for a larger Federal budget

for more immigration personnel and better service ,

Galveston will ALWAYS have an important strong presence

in the cruising industry

I thought maybe The Vision run Panama Canal? Would love to see more ships- longer itineraries from Galveston. Hit the ABC islands maybe? Hmm..

Lots of possibilities

Again I say, what happened to barbados being used as a homeport for RCi minus Oasis class? An 11 night one way cruise between a US port and Barbados sounds lovely.

Everything is possible. There has been discussion between Galveston and RCCL for a homeport Galveston , then cruising Western Carribean ,Panama Canal, Western Mexico, SanDeigo and return to Galveston

with alternating Galveston , Cuba, Eastern Caribbean, and return to Galveston . Then a repeat . This similar to Tampa past itineraries to San Deigo and back.

If you want a different Galveston itinerary now ,

cruise Vision repo in 2017.

Or two leg B2B

Quebec City , Canada , New England fall foliage

via Jersey

via Southern and Western Caribbean,

back into Homeport Galveston .

At least in an interview RCCL stated Panama Canal won't be included in the upcoming itineraries for the next future, for whatever reason...

So that's a scenario unlikely to happen.

ABC islands might well be, however.

Moreover Vision otS is called @French Riviera every 12 days in 2018, which leads to the fact she is going to overtake the 12 night runs out of Barcelona, done by Brilliance in 2016/17.

Could well be to have Vision back in Galveston by winter 2018/19.
