E-cigs?

Are e-cigs allowed on board a Celebrity ship? I read about smoking, but not e-cigs.

Per Celebrity's website,

What is the onboard smoking policy?

For your comfort and enjoyment, our ships are designated as non-smoking; however, we recognize that some of our guests smoke. Therefore, cigarette, cigar and pipe smoking is permitted in designated outdoor areas of the ship. Smoking is not permitted in any dining venue, casino, theater, lounge, hallway, elevator, or corridor. This policy includes smoking-like products such as electronic cigarettes. Smoking is not permitted inside any stateroom, nor on any stateroom veranda. If you are in violation of this policy, a cleaning fee of $250 USD will be applied to your SeaPass® account and you may be subject to further action pursuant to the "Consequences Section" of the Guest Conduct Policy. Cigarettes, cigars and pipe tobacco must be properly disposed of and never thrown overboard. You must be at least 18 years of age to purchase, possess or use tobacco onboard.

Additionally, there is a non-smoking policy on all components of the land tour portion of all Celebrity Cruises Cruisetour products. We appreciate your understanding and adherence.

The nice thing about the e-cigs, if you vape in your cabin, no one will know. No lingering odor! But, in public, you will have to conform to the "smoking" rules.

E cigs are treated just like regular ones and thus BANNED in your cabin and all indoor spaces

Not very good advice at all. If they are caught they could be fined.

If X could somehow see what you are getting up to in the privacy of your stateroom then I think using e-cigs would be the last thing we should be worried about:D

(I don't smoke or use e-cigs-just saying)

Ummm, no it can't. 100% cannot.

It 100% depends on the technology a particular smoke detector is using to determine if there is smoke or not.

Some smoke detectors go off just when one gets steam from a shower in a room. The kinds that Vapes would affect use senses to detect particles in a beam of light, so when steam particles pass, the detector will go off.

There are some detectors that work off heat which wouldn't be subject to Vape's, and some more expensive versions that are less sensitive, but the fact is, vaping can set off detectors.

I don't smoke or vap. Some of these comments are ridiculous. Vaping in the room or balcony is no biggie, yes it is "against the misguided rules" You can't smell it unless it is some god-awful sent. It doesn't linger any more than spraying fabreeze in your room and certainly a lot less than some of the cheap perfumes some people shower in.

I know someone who smoked on the balcony in a royal suite and the butler was there. It was not a big deal unless it bothered someone. Aghast! How can this be some would say, to which I respond if you are not there and it doesn't impact you, move on and get a life.

However, if the fluid used contains nicotine, then using them inside the cabin will leave nicotine residue on surfaces. Those surfaces can be easily checked by taking a wipe of the surface using a nicotine test kit. Some hotel chains use them to confirm and document smoking in non-smoking hotels and rooms as part of the process for billing for breaking the non-smoking policy. They will also detect vaping if the liquid contains nicotine.

There's no way hotels or cruise lines will pay the price, even if it's as little as $5 or $10 per kit, but I'd guess it's more than that, to nicotine swipe test every room after every guest checks out. More cost effective is to only use the kits when rooms have an evident smell of smoke to back up their smoking charge. Landlords may do a kit when tennants leave since this is far less frequent.

Sounds like a real treat.

Sheesh......Vaping isn't smoking. The cruise line staff vape, and I bet they vape in their cabin just like the 99% of all vapers onboard do. Just like hotel rooms, airports, etc....

Next people will be saying you can't have a nicotine patch on in your cabin. Really, some people... Unbelievable...
