just a heads up, for our cruise in April you can book the Crown Grill and Sabatinins through your personaliser

Yes, but you must pre-pay in advance. We always book on board and use our OBC's to pay for it.

I will book my specialty dining reservations while on board. If Princess starts charging ahead of time for excursions, then I will book them on board also. If I can’t use my cruise credits for something useful then what’s the point? And I am talking about in excess of gratuities.

Maybe I’ll just play the system and cash it all out through the casino.

It's a dream come true for me!!!! I like to plan ahead.

I find it hard to plan an evening at a specialty restaurant without knowing in advance the activity and entertainment schedule for that evening and what the menu in the main dining room may be for that evening.

I agree, last thing I want to do is decide to go the Crown grill 3 months in advance, wii definitely suit some, but not me. Didn't realise you had to prepay

We will wait to book onboard and use our OBC certainly not paying it in advance and then having to waste OBC on something we don't really want to purchase. Also like to know when Formal nights are so another reason to wait until onboard.

Nothing wrong with prepaying.....:):):)

However I have two nights complimentary specialty restaurants on each of my next three cruises, so I won't be able to pre-reserve. I'm sure I won't have any problem making reservations onboard though.

They must be rolling it out to more (and perhaps all cruises). A week or so ago, of out 3 cruises currently booked, Specialty Dining reservations were available on our next cruise which is currently 26 days out. However, now our September TA on the Regal and our March 2018 cruise on the CB are both offering reservations.

I totally agree with others that have no desire to plan our dinner schedule months or a year in advance and also want to be able to use OBC (although we would probably not have any problem using them up anyway :D).

My biggest complaint, and this is not the case on NCL, the only other cruise line we've sailed (Princess is much better from our perspective ;)), is the very limited time slots. We almost always dine between 8:00 and 8:30. 7:30 is too early, it falls smack in the middle of the cocktail hour :D and 9:30 is too late. Given my age, that's when that cocktail hour starts to kick in ;p.

I'm pretty sure that the limited time slots for the pre-booking is to allow plenty of slots for people who will not be making their reservations until they board. This seems reasonable to me. I have no issue with prepayment, but I really don't like to plan very far in advance. So, I'll be making all our dinner reservations after we board. We also have a lot of flexibility in our dining times. If only early reservations are available, we'll take one. If only late reservations are available, we'll take one of those.

I also believe you can't pre-book a reservation for embarkation evening.

Maybe. Maybe not.

Limited could mean limited to the total number of seats in the restaurant.

I believe they limit the number based on staffing - not physical space. They also want to stagger arrivals so that everyone doesn't arrive at the same time in order to even out staff workload.

Why can't I make reservations for complimentary dinners? Are reservations only for pre-pay guests?

Advance reservations must be prepaid. They cannot be complimentary from a promotion or for suite first night and they cannot be paid with OBC.

They do not allow prepaid reservations for the first night - probably because of the complimentary dinners for suite passengers. Also they limit the number and times of prepaid reservations on other nights, so there will still be times available for booking onboard.
