Astro Flyer Posted June 13, 2017 #3 Share Posted June 13, 2017 (edited) The Majestic arrives in Singapore on 6/18/17 to begin the Asia deployment. I have friends currently sailing on the ship from Dubai and post-cruise will learn how it compares to their Regal Princess cruise they sailed with us. Mapu Posted June 14, 2017 #5 Share Posted June 14, 2017 I know several long term Princess cruisers who were on previous Majestic Princess cruises. The feedback that I received was not very positive and to a person said they would not choose the Majestic again. Most are Elite CC members who felt many amenities that they know and love were non existent on the Majestic. It will be interesting to hear feedback from current cruisers. The ship was build soley for the Asian market so it has some unique things (like multiple small karaoke rooms/booths) for that market and lacks some features Western pax like. Most are Elite CC members who felt many amenities that they know and love were non existent on the Majestic. It will be interesting to hear feedback from current cruisers. I had expressed concerns to my close friends who are currently sailing the Majestic to Singapore that the changes to the Majestic were not appealing to me. They have free internet minutes but haven't emailed me with anything positive to allay my concerns. They've sailed with us on the Regal & looking forward to their post-cruise objective analysis of the Majestic. Although based on their lack of sharing their experiences during the cruise that may be an indication that they agree with me. ;)

The ship was build soley for the Asian market so it has some unique things (like multiple small karaoke rooms/booths) for that market and lacks some features Western pax like. That was the Princess plan however since this ship was extensively promoted as being exclusively for the Asian market, its quick change to 6 months in AUS/NZ seems to indicate that bookings aren't doing well. And replacing so many entertainment venues & bars with gambling & designer shops are just some of the reasons we may never sail on the Majestic. I'll now put on my flame retardant suit before being flamed about forming an opinion without sailing on the ship. However the Princess descriptions, deck plans & images clearly show me that the Majestic is not for me & I cannot afford to sail the ship merely to confirm my opinions. ;p

Just not that much demand for winter cruises in cold weather on winter seas. stki Posted June 15, 2017 #10 Share Posted June 15, 2017 We fly tomorrow to Singapore to join the Majestic on Sunday.:). Really looking forward to this cruise as I never thought we would be able to sail on this class of ship, unless we flew to US or Europe. (we are from Australia) Now Princess is bringing this ship to OZ in August 2018 until March 2019. (and who knows after that). I am sure they will have to make sure it will be suitable for Aussies- there will be a mutiny if not enough bars :) They must have really misjudged the Chinese market and decided to bring the ship down under, where us Aussies love to cruise. RCI also bought the Ovation of the Seas down to OZ last year and are doing it again this year. I am going with an open mind- no work, no cooking, no cleaning and a great itinerary.:) Cheers Tanya
san diego sue Posted June 15, 2017 #11 Share Posted June 15, 2017 Have friend on it right now. Since she has been on both the Royal and Regal will be interested in her opinion. She has been doing a blog and sending it to me every day.She got on in I believe Rome and now heading for Maylasia. Getting off in Singapore. Her blog is all about the ports and little about whether she likes the ship. Will call her next week when she returns home. She did say all the good lounges that you love on other Princess ships, not on this one. She did both the wine dinner and chefs and loved both. If there are any questions she does answer my email. For me I was more interested in what she had to say about the exotic ports than the ship. Normally I am more about the ship but in this case her descriptions of ports are incredible. Wish she could post her blog here.
cflutist Posted June 15, 2017 #12 Share Posted June 15, 2017 We are booked on the Majestic for both September 2018 to Fiji, New Caledonia, and Vanuatu, and another in March 2019 to NZ. Am looking forwards to sailing in PH and PS suites on a new ship for a change, but do still love the 9x17 balconies of the Grand/Star Caribe deck suites. Being of Asian American descent, am also looking forwards to the Harmony specialty restaurant, and the noodle, lobster bar. Won't miss the lounges or bars much because we don't drink much alcohol. As it is we trade one of our two minibar setups for two coffee cards, and swap out the small bottles on the other minibar setup.

Royal Caribbean is bringing back to the USA one if its ships which had been modified for the Chinese market several years ago. Princess should have been aware of the weather factor when they heavily promoted the Majestic as exclusively for the Asian market. I can understand that market would prefer cruising warm weather destinations during their winter but that's something that Princess should have understood before promoting that the ship would sail & be marketed exclusively in Asia. And unlike RCI, as soon as the Majestic sailed the itineraries were modified & not after several years. These are indications to me that they've misjudged the desires of their core Asian clients. I've always written that I'm not the demographic Princess modified this ship to attract. Hopefully Princess discovers what the Majestic's core passengers desire to be successful despite apparently misjudging those passengers desires. Been on several other Princess ships so able to compare. No "meet and mingle" regisred yet (Majestic is not even listed thereyet... :) ) Look for the term "Meet & Greet" which is used on Princess. I've found the details for one on your cruise. MEET & GREET is scheduled! June 19th..our first sea and full day 10-11am Allegro Dining Room, Deck 6 (Fiesta), AFT Use this link to see more posts about your cruise, http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?p=52428009&highlight=Meet+%26+Greet#post52428009. caribill Posted June 16, 2017 #19 Share Posted June 16, 2017 And unlike RCI, as soon as the Majestic sailed the itineraries were modified & not after several years. Last year China got into a dispute with South Korea and all the Chinese sailings that included South Korea ports had to be modified. This meant less attractive itineraries as not as many ports could then be included in a seven day cruise since the ship had to travel further to get to acceptable ports. In addition, Princess does not sell cruises in China. They contract the ship to wholesalers who are responsible for selling the cruise. In many cases the wholesalers, who set their own pricing, had difficulty having prices high enough to justify the price they paid Princess for the ship lease. reney313 Posted June 23, 2017 #20 Share Posted June 23, 2017 We're not elite, just barely Platinum. We enjoyed our cruise on Majesty in May. I embraced the differences from what is "normal" with Princess. That said, happy we got to experience the ship but I won't be looking to book on her again unless there are changes to bring back some of the beloved spots (specifically Crooner's and bars in the lounges). Still a nice ship though and offered a different experience than normal. The noodle bar was fantastic and something I wish they had on all ships, although maybe not at the cost of the Pizza on Lido. I've always written that I'm not the demographic Princess modified this ship to attract. Hopefully Princess discovers what the Majestic's core passengers desire to be successful despite apparently misjudging those passengers desires. We just got off the Majestic after 28 days and she is a beautiful ship. There are central stairs, side aisles in the theater and other modifications that many Princess people griped about on the Royal and Regal forever it seems. The big change is the Hollywood Beach Club which is now the forward pool that is covered and is very nice. It basically is a Royal Class Princess ship and they are building 3 more in this class. The Future Cruise rep said that the ship was contracted by China and that as soon as it docks in Shanghai they walk off the ship and Princess will not do business on it until the contract is up. He thought it was a brilliant business decision because they get someone to pay top dollar to contract it, they do not have to promote it or give OBC's, pay the crew and that they can cycle a ship into their system with less economic stress. The Asian market is here to stay and you can tell just that by how many ships Princess is putting there. Evidently the ship is going to be used more for short gaming junkets by the Chinese contractors. I am sure they will be successful if the Chinese who gambled heavily on the leg we were on and shopped in the high end shops are any indication. Always follow the money and it is in Asia. There were the perpetual Princess cruisers who seem to complain about everything on board any ship they are on but most people we knew seemed to like it....many of our friends are on her for 48 days.....I think Princess knows what they are doing and does not need advice from others who sail frequently and always seem to think they know more then the Captain of the ship or the Princess CEO. It seemed that Princess wanted to get the ship to Shanghai and they really did not do anything special for the inaugural voyages other then a series of special shows called The Silk Road Journey...which were excellent. The itinerary also was awesome!!!!!
polmcs Posted June 24, 2017 #23 Share Posted June 24, 2017 I did see a Sydney-Fiji-Sydney itinerary for Sept. next year and was very interested to learn that the Majestic was a Royal class ship as my wife and I absolutely loved the Regal last year over thanksgiving. I did a little bit of research online and decided that it was not for us. The lack of Crooners, Explorers loung and the Wheelhouse Bar, along with the Vista lounge being a gaming giant room, along with an enlarged Casino, meant that this wasn't the ship for us. It was pretty much down to Vines and Bellinis as far as evening watering holes were concerned.
Griller Posted June 24, 2017 #24 Share Posted June 24, 2017 We were on recently for 14 days and really liked it. Food was great , entertainments team good, great production show with wonderful effects , no problems at all. I just hope the new Chinese crew taking it over looks after it properly and doesn't beat it up. Its a beautiful ship.

I didn't think there was one. And just FYI the Vista lounge on Majestic is like a normal one but without a bar, and it does have some MahJong tables at the back which don't interfere with regular use much. I just had 2 weeks on Majestic.
