Sorry another dress code question

I am going on Silhouette shortly. I am used to dressing up in a tux on the formal nights. I will be dining in Luminae. I am aware of the new "chic" nights which have replaced the previous formal nights and clearly can still wear the tux if I wished to do so. My question is however am I likely to be the only one doing so and consequently stick out like a sore thumb. Anyone any recent experience of luminae on chic nights

We were in Luminae last month and saw everything from Hawaiian shirts to tuxes on chic night. So wear whichever you please. If you're going to stick out, so are the guys wearing the Hawaiian shirts.

You may be in the minority but you will not stick out like a sore thumb. Absolutely wear your tux! My husband usually does at least once during a cruise though he has not packed his for our Alaskan cruise aboard the Millennium leaving Friday. You will enjoy Luminae! Have a wonderful cruise!

This is by no means a flame post nor am I being facetious, I am very curious and have been for a while when it comes to the dress code questions. Why is there so much anxiety about "sticking out"(I prefer standing out) when it comes to clothing styles, especially when it goes against the usual? Isn't the beauty of our modern society supposed to be the acceptance of individuality? MightyQ, if you want to wear your tux in Luminae, do so happily and I bet you'll look terrific.

I will continue to wear my Tux on Chic nights. I like it when I am best dressed!

Agreed. Why not try to look your best! We do not get so many opportunities to do do.

On our most recent cruise the Chic nights had the same variety as described by BEAV!

You will not stand out. We were invited to dine with the Captain second formal night in Tuscan. Men's dress at that table also ranged from tux, to suit, to open necked shirt......anything goes!

I know this will sound sexist (because it is, lol), but I never used to notice men caring about what other men are wearing.;)

DH wore his tux on chic night last month on Solstice. We saw at least as many other men in tuxes as we saw on Radiance OTS the previous week, on a formal night. Of course, given that it was a Hawaii cruise, a Hawaiian shirt would have qualified as formal wear. He has no other place to wear it, so it would just go to charity if he left it home (which he sometimes does when his wife insists on travelling with carryon only).

I don't own a suit, never dress up on ship beyond wearing a collared shirt to meet dress code for elite functions.

I would encourage you to dress up as much as you want and not think twice about it.

I wonder how many people actually pay attention to the dressiness level of those around them. I would guess very few...but who knows...it is probably more than I think.

My tux was donated years ago. Rarely ever even wear a suit any more. Occasionally a sport coat for very special family occasions.

The only ones I notice are the military retirees who insist on wearing their dress uniform

(which is against regulations!)

Heh we do notice when someone is overdressed. Every time someone wear a suit to work, we asked

"Are the customers coming today?"

"Are you going to an interview after work?"

"Going to a funeral after work?"

Usually one of the three was correct.

Last time I wore a tux to a wedding, all the guys asked "Looking good, trying to be James Bond?" Looking around I saw only the groom, best man, and fathers of the bride and groom wore tux. Went home and looked at the invitation again.. clearly said "Black Tie". I guess "Black Tie" doesn't mean Tux anymore.

Even though not required, we ALWAYS take our tuxes for AT LEAST 2 nights for every cruise.

TO us, Formal is just a basic part of a cruise.

We do not consider it an imposition to dress formal. I guess this us just how we were raised.

No you'll still see quite a few pax in formal wear. On our past Jan.22 14 day Eclipse cruise I never saws many tuxes as I did that cruise. Thought I was back on Cunard. So kick back & have a blast.

No, just people who failed to show respect for the couple on their special day. How sad!

Here is our experience with dress on Evening Chic night. We were a party of 16, half the men wore tuxes, the other half wore jackets. On the 2nd Evening Chic night, a very rowdy crowd came into the dining room wearing BATHROBES over their clothing & proceeded to make disparaging remarks regarding our dress. That is until they noticed our Naval friend who was in his dress uniform. They immediately took off their robes and quieted down.

Here is the thing - bathrobes are NOT allowed in any dining venue. How and why were they allowed in the MDR on Evening Chic night? They were obviously intoxicated as one had a sign on his back that said something to the effect of "Bar Crawl 6/22 Solstice." How & why were they allowed in the MDR in that state? We were very angry at this turn of events. We have just filled out our survey and this was very much highlighted as a negative experience.

We are very loyal Celebrity cruisers and this was one of the worst things we have ever seen.

You know some of those folks may not be retirees. We were traveling with a party of 16 to Alaska last week on Solstice and one of our party is an ACTIVE Navy chief who wore his dress uniform and looked great. And he certainly deserves to wear it. I was VERY proud to be seated at the same table with him.

That said, there were way more tuxes than I have ever seen before on an Alaskan cruise. But we did have a very disconcerting situation on the 2nd "Evening chic" night. My bride (BellKat) has detailed it above but suffice it to say, we were appalled to be seated at dinner with 14 friends (five of the men in tuxes) when a group was escorted to the table next to ours wearing their cabin bathrobes over their clothing and making loud and obnoxious remarks about how much they loved their "tuxes." The idea that a Celebrity host would ever seat this group without telling them to take off the bathrobes is appalling to me.
