Deployment 2019-20 booking season begins

Recommended Posts

My husband clarified (because my memory is shot, I guess) that, indeed, the $200 million is for the hotel side. I will also note that there are a ton of signs around the ship for Wonderland. There is, of course, no Wonderland.

Original plan, that signage was put in during last refurb

Current chatter is that Wonderland is coming to both Oasis and Allure and will be where the DL currently is on deck 11/12. The DL will be relocated to deck 4 like it is on Harmony. I can't share my source but do believe that change is coming. This also might be why on both Allure and Oasis lately there hasn't been a DL overflow in Blaze.

Hotel Director on Oasis (Kevin) told us it wasn't coming, it's a lousy revenue source.

He did not answer if another venue would take over the DL. ;)

I wonder why it's a lousy revenue source? Too small? Too little turnover? Not popular?

Not enough tables, not enough repeat business. I think it's a been there, done that venue. Not as much fun the second time. Wow factor is gone. So if you did it on Anthem or Harmony, you didn't come back on another ship or voyage.

I'll try it once on Harmony.

What he really wants is to bag the sushi side of Izumi and add three more hibachi tables. Huge money maker

I can believe that the hibachi is a big money maker. It's significantly more expensive than a couple we have here.

The Navigator is doing a transatlantic in November before being homeported in Miami. It will be in dry dock for 5 weeks before it starts up it's 5/9 day cruises and 3 & 4 day Bahamas cruises on February 1.

I thought Navigator already had a big makeover / refurbishment and went to Galveston, TX after that. See link below. Are you perhaps thinking Mariner?

The dry dock that you are referring to took place in 2014, so she is due for another in 2019.

Ok I see, that makes sense, the "5 year service". When I read 5 weeks on that other post by toad, it seemed like a major dry dock which I thought she had. Thanks for that reminder.

It is actually seeming like it will indeed be a major dry dock. Maybe like what they're doing to Mariner (slides, trampolines, etc), as they both will be doing 3/4 night Bahamas cruises.

It may depend on how much cash they have. Oasis is rumored to need 200 million for her 2019 refurb. Sometimes they delay upgrades

That's good then. In most cases, and given the ship age and condition, It's a lot less cheaper to make additions and modifications than to build/buy a new ship. With every refurbishment they are extending the life of the vessel.

Thanks again Luke.

Royal and other cruise lines are trying to get permission to turnaround from the Grain Terminal if the new cruise terminal in Brisbane is not ready for December 2019.

The Southampton deployment could have a possible link to this situation l.

I'd say the deployment of Explorer (or another ship) for the 2019/20 season is almost certainly related to the new Brisbane terminal. They wouldn't want to be caught with insufficient capacity when the terminal is finished given the financial commitment they have made.

Could you please disclose source of information regarding use of grain terminal as a contingency plan.

Does anyone have any theories on Oasis for the Fall of 2019? I see a gap between the last sailing in Europe and the first one in Florida. I know it is going to be refurbished and wondering if anyone knew anything about a TA over either before or after refurbishing? Hoping to do that if it is happening....

I've been combing over the Oasis schedule too and noticed the same thing. Sept 15/19 is the last sailing in Europe and nothing until mid-November back in Miami. I've asked around a bit too but there is very little info on what "revitalization" will take place. My main wonder is if they will add slides like they said they would? But RC seems very tight lipped about it much like Mariner's refurb.

I think that happened with Adventure. We were on her on that Southern Caribbean cruise from San Juan in which there was problem with the propeller and "fix pod" and we needed a tug escort back to port. We never made it to the Southern Caribbean.

I think Adventure was delayed because of Hurricane Mathew. I was thinking of the cost over runs with Empress. A couple of ships had to pay for that. Majesty was one.

Non-revenue TA's seem to become very popular..... first Indy, followed by Mariner.... now Oasis

At $45 per person, plus 18% "service charge," I agree, it is a huge money maker. I always enjoyed going in the past, but now I have sticker shock.

Someone please refresh my memory when the Fall, 2019 Australia cruises will open. I am actually looking at Radiance (or whatever ship will be there) on the Hawaii portion. Many thanks. :)

Malaga and Lisbon would both be good options for short winter seasons with good flight connections. Malaga's embarkation port opened several years ago and Lisbon's new terminal will be open soon.

I sailed on a 5 nighter to the Canaries out of Malaga on Adventure Nov 2010...wish they would have more short cruises in Europe that are not so expensive that it is cheaper to sail on a 7 nighter that the 3 or 5 nighters offered out of Southampton.
