easyboy Posted August 19, 2017 #2 Share Posted August 19, 2017 Black for me is the most formal, the others are great too. Suggest you pick what makes you feel good. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Grandma Dazzles Posted August 19, 2017 #3 Share Posted August 19, 2017 Welcome to CC. Very hard to answer without more information. What cruise line? Some are more formal than others. Most cruiseline use a suggestion of cocktail dress, but that is also just a suggestion. Wear the dress that you like and are more comfortable wearing - you will see all types of dresses. fishywood Posted August 19, 2017 #4 Share Posted August 19, 2017 OP has started thee threads in rapid succession on this board. None of which give the name of the ship, or even the cruise line, they are taking. Please do so so you can be directed to the appropriate line-specific board where better, more specific answers can be found. taglovestocruise Posted August 19, 2017 #7 Share Posted August 19, 2017 If your on the TA to Boston you will have three formal nights, bring both, then you only have to worry about which one to wear twice..
OCruisers Posted August 20, 2017 #8 Share Posted August 20, 2017 looks like she is on RCCL Keep in mind .... RCCL isn't as formal as it once was. I'd take the black & white striped one.
Rare mom says Posted August 20, 2017 #9 Share Posted August 20, 2017 It's almost impossible to answer questions that vary across cruise lines without knowing which ship you're on. And "formal night" varies tremendously. Try asking this on your cruise line's forum. Or on the Cruise Fashion forum: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=
Rare Essiesmom Posted August 20, 2017 #10 Share Posted August 20, 2017 Wear the one that packs the best, wrinkles the least. EM
Rare Keith1010 Posted August 20, 2017 #11 Share Posted August 20, 2017 You might want to ask on the RCI board. I would think that some dresses look more formal then others and that color is not the main reason; likely the look of the dress. If you have photos of them I have seen people post them to get feedback. Keith

Fjord Maiden Posted August 21, 2017 #15 Share Posted August 21, 2017 On our RCCL cruise last month they allowed people in the MDR on formal night in anything. Many men in open necked shirts and trousers, and some even in jeans and polo shirts. Why bother with a dress code at all. It was not enforced. The standard of dress was higher in the specialty restaurants at all times. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Grandma Dazzles Posted August 21, 2017 #16 Share Posted August 21, 2017 Fiord Maiden - on RCCL there is no dress code, other than no shorts in the MDR on an evening, and the usual no bare feet, swimsuits, etc. in eating locations. This is a very controversial point on the RC boards. Cruising has definitely become more casual over the years. The evening dress code is listed as a "suggestion " for each evening - you cannot enforce a suggestion. Formal attire is not required.
cbelc Posted August 21, 2017 #17 Share Posted August 21, 2017 If your cruise has 2 formal nights, bring all 3 and wear the least formal one on a smart casual night. Or bring a tie dye scarf/wrap and wear the pink one on 70s night. Have fun and feel good in whatever you wear. It has become a casual cruise line where you can dress up if you want to.
sail7seas Posted August 21, 2017 #19 Share Posted August 21, 2017 It has become a casual world where one can dress up if they want to. :) The days for formal on cruise ships have gone, for the most part.
cb at sea Posted August 22, 2017 #20 Share Posted August 22, 2017 Really depends on the dress, it's "cut", length, and material. A sparkly black dress made of t-shirt material is hardly "formal"....post some photos!!!

Won't make THAT mistake again. [emoji19] Sent from my iPhone using Forums
