I did the planning for a friend's honeymoon (Alaska - in an Aqua cabin) and here are the "Cruise tips" I had in their folder. Some will not be pertinent to you, but hopefully will get you to thinking!!

Cruise tips

General

· Create a userID and password to the Celebrity site – from there you can monitor your cruise. This is also where you will check-in for your cruise

· You can order luggage tags starting approximately 4-5 weeks prior to boarding. These have your room number on them so they porters can take your luggage to the correct room

· Remember that the porters at the pier are taking your luggage and you won’t have access to it for several hours. If there is anything that you may want during that time, put it in a small bag/backpack

· Print out your Express pass and bring it with you, it should only be one page. There is another large document, but you don’t need to print it…..it is for your reference only

· Don’t forget that you are travelling in Aqua class. There is a special “priority” lane for you when you embark

· Make sure your passport is current today + 6 months

· Access to the Persian Gardens is included with your room. They have heated loungers, a stream room and wonderful showers!

· We make (beaded) lanyards for our key cards. Guest Services or the Casino will punch a hole in them for you.

· Make sure your phone is on Airplane mode!

· Walk the ship the first day– get the ‘lay of the land’. Unless you really like walking UP stairs, start at the top and work your way down. On the first day…avoid the elevators as much as possible!

· The ship’s photographers will try to take your picture ALL the time. It is ok to politely say “no thank you”.

· Go to the Martini Bar and order a “flight”. It will cost around $20, but that includes 6 sampler martinis, unfortunately it is NOT included in your drink package.

· Each evening, your cabin steward will bring you a “Celebrity Today” detailing the next day’s activities. Read it so you don’t miss something!

· The casino is fun, but don’t expect huge payouts….it is a revenue generator for them

· If you want to ‘connect’ while on the cruise, there is WiFi onboard (for a price), but it is very slow. Best option is to use free WiFi when at a port stop.

· The Muster Drill is mandatory!

· Make sure you watch the sun come up and go down at least once

Dining

· Your assigned dining room is Blu

· Blu serves breakfast and dinner (no lunch)

· You can eat in the main dining room, but you will not have an assigned table or dining time (but the food in Blu is better!)

· You will not have a designated dining time (or table)…..you eat whenever suits your needs that day (We like to eat at the same time every night as we try to get the same waiter/assistant. That way they know our preferences and they bring them to us without us needing to ask.)

· Blu dining is “business casual” every day – even Chic nights. You can dress up if you wish, but it isn’t necessary

· It is quite acceptable to order TWO appetizers/soups/entrees (especially on lobster night!!) If you aren’t sure if you will like something, order the ‘new’ one and a ‘stand-by’

· It is quite acceptable to order two appetizers (or two soups) and have them count as your appetizer and soup course

· Ask the waiter for recommendations….they won’t steer you wrong

· Men must wear a collared, sleeved shirt in Blu - anytime

· No shorts at dinner

· The Mast Grill has wonderful burgers and fries

· The buffet has ice cream that is made that day on the ship

· Café al Bacio is great for fancy coffees and the pastries are free

· Sushi on 5 costs extra, but is a nice place to go on embarkation day. The buffet is usually a mad house, so this is a nice place to go to have a nice sit down meal and start your vacation stress free!

· Escargot, shrimp cocktail, French Onion soup and Caesar salad are available, but not on the menu….just ask!

· You have a beverage package. At dinner, as the sommelier for wine suggestions

Entertainment

· Do NOT miss the Hot Glass show!

· Participate in as many of the ship’s activities as you wish, they will enhance your cruise experience

· See the nightly shows that are of interest to you

· Often there are additional shows – other than the nightly ‘big’ shows. They are a lot of fun….like the Liar’s Club and the adult comedy show. See your Celebrity Today for the list of what is offered each day

Your room

· You will receive canapes every afternoon. If you don’t like them, just ask your cabin steward to stop delivery. If you want something special, shrimp or cheese and crackers…just ask. He will bring those too!

· Put your empty suitcases under the bed

· Spend some time sitting on your balcony

· We like to order room service the first morning of the cruise. We sit on the balcony and wonder what the poor people are doing!

· Your room will not have a clock. Plan accordingly!

· The number of wall outlets is limited. There are a few next to the desk. Pack a multi-outlet plug (but NOT an extension cord) or some other type of charging station

· Do NOT pack an iron – they will take it away from you!

· There is a hair dryer in the desk drawer

· There is a safe in the room

· The cabin has air conditioning, but sometimes it doesn’t work as well as I would like. Pack a small portable fan

Your Drink package

· You have the classic drink package – this allow you to choose from beers up to $6 per serving, spirits, cocktails, liqueurs and frozen drinks up to $8 per serving, and wine-by-the-glass up to $9 per serving.

· Anything above that allowance is paid for at full price

· Gratuities to the bartended are INCLUDED

· Included with your drink package is bottled water, sodas, fresh squeezed orange juice, smoothies, and specialty coffees and teas

· As you leave the ship for your excursions, don’t forget to pick up a bottle of water….it’s included in your beverage package!

Packing Tips

Alaska's Inside Passage weather during June ranges from cool & rainy to mild & sunny. (Avg high 65° / avg low 52°) Dressing in layers is the solution. You'll be far more comfortable in a cotton turtleneck topped with a light sweater and windbreaker than bundled up in a parka. You can add and subtract layers as the weather warrants. Although rain is common in Alaska; June is one of the driest months all year.

· Do NOT over pack

o Wear everything except underwear at least twice

o Mix and match by packing around a single color scheme

· Bring a raincoat

· Bring a good pair of hiking boots and a pair of tennis shoes

· Pack sunscreen

· Don’t forget your phone charger and extra memory cards

· Pack for layering – Sweatpants, a fleece hoodie, and a waterproof/breathable shell for dog sledding. Jeans and a sweatshirt/sweater for every-daywear.

· Light winter cap/scarf: These will really keep you warm if it gets unseasonably cold, or if you are feeling the effects of the glacier-chilled wind.

· The weather can/will be unpredictable….check the weather before you leave home!! It will likely be warm and sunny, so pack shorts, t-shirts, and sunglasses. Conversely, wool blankets are also available on all decks.

· BUT, don’t forget that your shore excursions are to COLD places….pack jeans, cargo shorts, or sweatpants for them

· Don’t forget a swimsuit: There are four hot tubs, an indoor pool, and an outdoor pool onboard.

· Collapsible backpack/tote bag: this comes in handy when you are wearing layers or buying souvenirs in port. Portable, something you can fold up and put in your pocket.

I send this with a 'sad' heart in that I know that your cruise is being preempted by hurricane Irma. Just remember that honeymoons are not only a celebration of your marriage, but the story associated with it makes for a great story to tell the grandkids!! ;p

Barcelona: The only port that I can think of where you can buy alcohol after passing through security.. and you can board and go back for more..

Be careful in Barcelona. it is a pickpocket's dream and Cruise Critic members have posted how they missed their departure because their passports had been stolen.

We were on a shuttle to the ship where we witnessed a pickpocket sitting back on the bench waiting for the next bunch of tourists after being told to get his hand out of a passenger's pocket as he boarded the shuttle.

Beautiful city...but nicknamed " City of Thieves" for good reason...

Watch yourself everywhere,,,much worse than Rome,

In the Old City, gypsies in jeans surrounded me and dh on a narrow street and started to close in. We bolted in time to avoid the swarm...they dress modern, traditional, whatever...very clever crooks.

Going home, a poor passenger on the Delta Air check in line had her purse swiped from top of of her wheelie cart...She could not check in for the flight..Security sealed exits for awhile but really no luck with that...

DH wears a security money belt & I have a little pouch pinned in that we call the "bank of bra",

Have a great cruise Wondeful honeymoon...great to plan ahead but hope you also discover wonderful things on and off of the ship.

The Aqua Spa Cafe in the Solarium is open for light breakfasts and lunches for everyone for no charge. If you have a beverage package and like champagne I would suggest upgrading because the Chandon is much better than the Classic Champagne. We usually eat from the buffet one night and carry the food to the outside to dine al fresco. For dinner they custom grill steak, chicken and fish at the back.

Congratulations!!!! Everyone gave great advice.

In regards to pick pockets. I saw them do so many times. They are so very quick. I suggest a money belt for you (inside your clothing) and a anti theft purse for your wife. I use mine everytime we travel abroad and I have lent it several times to friends. Its very secure.

My daughter is traveling to Rome soon and I told her to pick one out and I would buy it for her.

Also the suggestions on joining the Roll call and joining private tours is an excellent idea. If you don't want to mingle, don't, but the difference in price with 6-8 or just 2 is allot.

ENJOY!

That they have the worst entertainment.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, however, I suggest you decide for yourself....

Look at the 'Today' paper left on your bed each evening and decide what activities and entertainment you may enjoy....

Entertainment enjoyment is very personal. Whilst Celebrity may not offer the variety of shows that the larger RC ships offer, for example, it has plenty of selection and choices for most. We particularly enjoy the small musical groups often in the Ensemble Lounge pre dinner...

What a wonderful compilation CaroleSS! I particularly liked the idea about the sun.

An update - with the classic beverage package - smoothies were no longer included from Aquaspa Buffet (on Reflection), and you could now just pay the difference in price from classic to premium if an alcoholic drink wasn't included in classic (rather than full price for something not included in classic which was the old system).

Ok, before anyone jumps down my throat and tells me just tosearch for this info, let me assure you, I HAVE searched! Ever since bookingout 11 night “France Italy and Film” cruise for May on the Constellation, Ihave been obsessed with CC (as I usually am before any cruise)!

I have cruised a lot as a child (including a coupleCelebrity cruises over 20 years ago) and have sailed on NCL a few times morerecently, but I am pretty unfamiliar with Celebrity.

Just as context, a bit about ourselves: This isgoing to be our HONEYMOON! We are a couple in our early (me) and mid (him) 30s from New Jersey. We like to eat, relax, sightsee and have a goodtime but are by no means “partiers.”

I am a planner by nature, and I love to have as muchinformation as possible before a trip. I am looking to find out all of thethings that you seasoned Celebrity cruisers think I should know. Of course, Idon’t know what I don’t know, so it is hard to pinpoint what information I reallyneed, but things I have thought of are:

  • The cruise cards, are these used the same as onother lines?
  • Food options – specific to Constellation – arethree options 24/7? It is unclear as to what specialty restaurants are actuallyon board now, can someone confirm?
  • Disembarkation at ports – do people line upearly? Is this usually easy?
  • Embarkation – any need to arrive early? We areleaving from Barcelona. What should I expect? (asking because we are used tothe hellish NCL embarkation process!)
  • Is there enough space underneath the bed for thesuitcases?
  • WIFI – I have read mixed reports on the quality
  • Are there irons/ironing boards in the staterooms?
  • SPA – do they usually do embarkation dayspecials?

Thanks everyone for all of your help!

Hi, congrats on your wedding & honeymoon :D we did the Cannes Film Festival cruise on the Equinox last year, there's a link to what we saw, did, where we went, in my signature. I can tell you we arrived at the port a bit before 11 & were among the first to board... take a taxi to the port... Barcelona has some of the most honest & trustworthy cabs I've run into in Europe, they stick to a pretty strict code of ethics in exchange for keeping ride sharing services (Uber & Lyft) out of the ports. In Barcelona, they have great public transport.. buy a T10 ticket, & if you run out, buy another. There's a lot of pickpockets, DH & I both have cross body bags with hidden inner pockets, we use a little carbiner clip to hook the out zipper to the strap... same if we take out little backpacks, carbiner locks it all down. You've got an awesome itinerary, the sail in to Kotor is amazing so get up early & be out on deck for at least two hours before you're scheduled to be there... Other than Florence, every port you're hitting is an easy DIY, even in Rome you can easily take the train into central Rome. In Livorno, we hired a car service to take us into Florence & then shared the cost with 5 others on our roll call. With your itinerary I wouldn't plan on much ship time... Have an awesome time!

Make sure that whatever happens, you enjoy your cruise. Do not let any little things that happen allow the fun to drain out of either of you. Things happen, so always make the best of the situation. Enjoy...laugh...make memories!

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding and honeymoon. Make sure Celebrity know it is your honeymoon, they do sometimes arrange special events like a cocktail party.

I think your questions have pretty well been answered.

You do not mention what room you have, I would strongly suggest you go for at least a balcony room....nothing quite so romantic as sitting out on the balcony, drink in hand, watching the stars.

On boarding see if you can negotiate a dining package (book2/3 meals at a discount). If the discount is minimal just say you will think about it and ask again a couple of days later. Discounts are based on supply and demand, some cruises offer much better discounts than others. Tours in the Med are tiring so you may prefer to enjoy the speciality restaurants on sea days.

As Arno said, you can buy alcohol before boarding, even if you have a drinks package it is nice to have something in your room.

Never tried it but I believe the Spa does a couples massage....bargains on port days but still not cheap.

Hope you have a wonderful cruise!

If you decide to sign up for a specialty dining package once on board, wait until you have sailed. If you are docked, you will be assessed a tax. We found out the hard way! We got the charge taken off our bill because it was never shown on anything we signed but it was a hassle.

Have a great honeymoon. We LOVE Barcelona! Show up to board the ship in early afternoon and you won't wait and your cabin might be ready!

Congratulations to you both and welcome to CC. Your questions have been well answered and lots of good advice given. I would just like to add that the walls of the M class ships (Constellation and others) are metal. If you can find some metal hooks and magnets, they will stick to the wall. Great place to hang jackets, purse etc. Then, use the magnets to tack up the dailies and invitations you get, so you're not looking for them at the last minute, or worse, forgetting all about them.

Also, try and board early, so you can walk around the ship and get pictures with not too many people in them.

Enjoy your cruise and your honeymoon.

So my husband and I are sailing next month and have already purchased the 4 night specialty dining. We could only make reservation for one restaurant for first or second night, and couldn't specify which restaurant. Will Celebrity make the rest of the reservations for us, or will we have to take care of it on board?

I understand we're giving up some flexibility due to the discount we're getting on the restaurants, but I'd like to try 4 separate restaurants and not get stuck in the same one or two for the 4 nights. I appreciate any input on those who have prebooked these packages!

This is great advice! Things do go wrong; ports get missed; a meal is not up to standard; whatever. Your state of mind is what makes these into a disaster or otherwise. Cruising is fantastic but don't expect every little detail to be perfect because you are almost bound to be disappointed. Go in with the attitude that you are going to enjoy yourself and smile through any glitches and you will have a great time.

I hope you have a beautiful wedding day, a great cruise and a long and happy marriage.

Downy wrinkle release is great when you can't have an iron!

We found a useful tip on Cruise Critic that really works. Bring a couple of fabric softener dryer sheets and an empty spray bottle in your luggage. Once on ship add a dryer sheet to the spray bottle and fill with water. Bingo- instant wrinkle releaser. No need to carry a heavy liquid bottle when you travel.

A cocktail party?? I've never known a cruise line to arrange such a thing just because they know it's someone's birthday, anniversary, honeymoon etc. What sort of cocktail party do they arrange?

Unlike Princess, there are no self-service laundry services. No irons & ironing boards either. On a longer voyage (e.g. 2 weeks) the laundry bags get expensive and they are quite small too. IMO, having to wash laundry in the bathroom sink is very tacky. This is a deal breaker for us. [emoji107]

Celebrity does sometimes have specials on laundry... Like "get x number if items for $20".

Also loyalty rewards include free laundry, so if after your first cruise with celebrity, you enjoy them, keep going back and you'll have free laundry to look forward to one day when you reach a higher status! [emoji6]
