Princes Cruises - New rip off for drinks package.

I agree. In fact, they reward play with free drinks but you technically already get them "free" with AIBP so what's the incentive. Something they didn't think about. Mentioned that to the Carnival host and he gave us a free steak dinner. So always talk to the host if you think you've earned something.

We had the same happen for us on Carnival for our last few cruises. Steak upgrade, bottle of wine or both. We won't have our 1st Princess cruise until Mar so I was unaware of how Princess handled this situation.

While the AIBP was actually unlimited I always turned down free drinks from the casino host - with the 15 drink limit now I will accept them especially late at night when I might be coming near the limit.

I don't know about Princess but on Carnival the free casino drinks also counted against the Cheers limit.

They have never swiped my card for free drinks before (as in before he AIBP existed) so how would it show up in the computer and my card is in a slot machine

well, why would it matter if it was before the AIBP ??

but now with the PBP and it's 15 alcoholic drink limit??

which brings up the question ... what is the drink limit if you are on a pay as you go - certainly not a "specific" number, but at the discretion of the server, amiright?

There is no limit if you pay as you go - but they will cut you off if they think you have had too much. On the new Premier Package terms and conditions it say you can get more after 15 and pay full price if the management says it is ok. They other question here is how do you question when they say you have had 15 and you say you have not ? Are they going back to making you sign for each drink again so as to have a paper trail ?

I matters because before AIBP and I was paying as I went I would accept the drink from the casino host since it was an actual "free" drink - when the unlimited AIBP came out I didn't care since I had no limit

Sad to see that they changed the plan that you can’t get a can of Coke any more everything has to be fountain now.

This is the only thing that bothers me about the PBP.

Not all bars have "the gun". Princess Cays doesn't either. :(

We aren't happy about the fountain sodas -- does anyone have first hand experience? - if you find a bar without a gun will they serve you a can, or send you to another bar?

We leave in two weeks and we'll take a twelve pack of Diet Coke, if we need to - DW does not like fountain DC -- we won't be happy about it since we booked under the AIBP

It sure is a bummer they raise the price lower the drink count but can’t get a can of pop. Next we only will be allowed one dinner roll from

The Buffett

What I found annoying on Carnival (and I'm sure applies to Princess too) is the "one drink at a time" rule. I get that it's to eliminate sharing so I understand the reason behind it. However, it sure got frustrating ordering my coffee and having to wait 10 minutes before I could get an orange juice in the mornings!

That I have never had an issue with on Princess. I will order a cocktail and a soda at dinner and a cocktail and a bottle of water at the bars. I will miss being able to get a large bottle of water with my last drink to take back to my stateroom.

If I have a package, I will stop at bars throughout the day and get a bottle each time so I have enough to keep my thirst quenched. I used to drink about 3 large bottles per day (while exercising, in the morning, in the evening). I'm not against getting a glass but it's not enough. So, I just hope they have enough small bottles on board. I recall every cruise by the end they were out of large bottles and had to give you small ones. Guess, this will be the reverse of that. When they run out of small, I will go to guest services to credit the bottles I was forced to buy. I don't like the new rules.

Once on Princess, we went from the bar to the dinning room for lunch from a bar. I had about half of my cocktail left and the server at the table refused to take my order for a glass of wine to have with lunch, until I finished my cocktail.

That got corrected real quickly.

I never had trouble ordering a 24K Margarita with a Patron chaser at Crooner's -- it's all in the skill and creatively of the server :p

It states on the rules for the new package that you may only order one drink at a time. Same as Carnival, I assume. I don't believe that was ever in the rules previously?

  • 6 months later...

Hi, wondering if anyone can answer a few quesrtions I have about this promotion,

1. I want to buy my grandmother a margarita. How can I do that? Can i still buy drinks for others without it affecting my quota or worse, accusing me of sharing my drinks?

2. I would rather pay for drinks when its 2 for 1 specials. Can i do that without it deducting from my 15 drink linit.

3. It says one drink per person...but martinis are usually considered as 2 shots. So will they deduct two drinks, per martini?

3. What happens if I want a drink that costs 15.00, which is passed the 12.00 limit.

Any answer is appreciated.:D

Hi, wondering if anyone can answer a few quesrtions I have about this promotion,

1. I want to buy my grandmother a margarita. How can I do that? Can i still buy drinks for others without it affecting my quota or worse, accusing me of sharing my drinks? If you order a round, one will be on your PBP, all the others charged for. Paid drinks do not affect the PBP daily limit.

2. I would rather pay for drinks when its 2 for 1 specials. Can i do that without it deducting from my 15 drink linit. In the six months that this thread has been dormant Princess has eliminated the BOGO happy hours.

3. It says one drink per person...but martinis are usually considered as 2 shots. So will they deduct two drinks, per martini? There is an extensive Martini menu at Crooners, all only count as one drink and are priced under $12.

3. What happens if I want a drink that costs 15.00, which is passed the 12.00 limit. You would pay in full, not just the difference as on other lines. But unlike those other lines Princess does not pad their drink menus with many that are over the max price.

Any answer is appreciated.:D

My answers in red above. With the suggestion that when you search for threads on this topic try to post to more recent ones--six months old is an eternity when discussing beverage packages. Most of the rant in the opening post has proven patently false.

15 alcohol drinks a day is a lot 🤢

Yes, I agree 15 drinks is a lot. BUT you don't have to drink 15 drinks to make the package work/benefit you.

Estimating $14 a drink, let's say WITH tip, then 5 drinks is $70. THAT is (roughly) the price per day of the drink package.

I can certainly drink 5 drinks in a 24 hour period.

IF you're a person who drink 2 - 3 glasses of $9 wine in a 24 hour day, then the package isn't worth it for you.

I happen to agree with your post, but to clarify the drink price must be $12 and under (at least 95% of Princess drinks) and, more importantly for calculations of value, all non-alcoholic drinks (water, soda, mocktails, etc.) are included and unlimited.

I thought it was only the ‘gun’ sodas that were included in the package? What happens if you want an item such as a tonic water that isn’t on a gun dispenser?

Ok, thanks. I've seen a lot of posts about DP being $15 and under.
