Another of those Sip and Sail questions

Does anyone have experience with this? I drink Fanta a lot, because it has no caffeine, and it is also only in the cans. I was considering changing the mini bar over to Fanta, but if I can get the cans with the sip and sail, that would be nice.

I have never seen Fanta on a Princess ship

You don't see it, but it's there. You have to ask for it. I've gotten it on several ships in the past few years. They don't stock a lot (at least on the Pacific), and I have been told that I can't get it in room service because they're "out", but you can usually get it in the dining rooms as well. Honestly, I don't know about the bars. I've always gotten it for dinner or through the minibar, but I'm drinking it more now, and drinking less Coke, at least when I can.

And, even for those who haven't seen the Fanta, if they have anecdotal information about the root beer and the PBP, that would be helpful.

For the Sip and Sail only both parties have to have the package. If purchasing the package there is no requirement that both purchase. The small bottles of water at the gangway are included. We got water at each port stop and were never charged for it. The water also includes the small bottles or Perrier and San Pellegrino. I tended to end each night with a small bottle of San Pellegrino. The only thing that counts against your 15 drinks is alcoholic drinks. I had no trouble getting doubles (by the second day) as I was drinking Talisker and they were quite certain I wasn't sharing with my wife. She can't even stand the smell of the stuff. ;p The bartenders told me it was "at their discretion" whether or not they would serve someone doubles. Room service is not included with the package. We were able to get unopened beer to take back to our cabin but that may not be the case for everybody in every bar. We also got unopened splits of Korbel to take back to the cabin. I was even given a large glass of OJ with plastic wrap over the top to take to the cabin with the champagne. On our next to last day I got two splits and took them to the cabin and stuck them in the refrigerator. When we were sitting in the Plat/Elite disembarkation lounge there was free coffee, water, tea, and OJ. I got OJ and opened the champagne and we enjoyed a couple of Mimosas each while waiting for our disembarkation time. Very nice way to pass the time.

so, you can order small bottles on the PBP for room service? I believe Princess treats the gangplank waters the same as room service...;p

Gangplank waters are part of PBP. Room service bottled water and alcoholic beverages are not.

That was as off last October/November on the Royal Princess and last week on the Ruby Princess.

Canned soda is NOT included in PBP. You cannot get the can, although you can buy it at 25% discount. Lol.

However, they are supposed to pour you a glass of the sodas only available from a can. And I have had this experience on three different cruises since they AIBP changed to PBP. Pool deck Mermaid's Tale bar, no problem getting a glass of root beer or orange soda poured. They set aside the can they pour fron for you to top up as needed. Total joke that you can't just get the can, but they're package, they're rules. I ask for the large soda glass and it takes the whole can of soda.

YMMV

Cans are not part of PBP. They are, however, 25% off the normal can price. The problem is that I've never seen Fanta on board.

I can easily drink 15 alcoholic drinks per day. However, on my last cruise, my bar bill averaged just under $20 per day (mostly beer bought at the Happy Hour BOGO for $1), and I spent nothing on 'other' drinks: coffee, soda etc.

I did not feel I lacked for anything.

Could I make the Beverage Package 'worth it'? - "Yes".

Is it 'worth it' for me to buy the Beverage Package? - "No".

Does anyone know if they offer sales at any time prior to the cruise? We are sailing in November. And once onboard, is it any cheaper to buy then?

Not cheaper to buy on board HOWEVER you can use OBC on board and that can be a big advantage. Assuming you do not get package vis Sip & Sail.

They used to have orange fanta as option of the minibar setup for swap. I have swapped my minibar setup for all water recently so I am not sure if it is still available.

That's a little how we feel too. If it's a sea day, between after dinner drinks and Mimosas around breakfast time, we could get 15 beverages in. But if we are in Port, we won't get them all, and on our last Cruise we both had a terrible chest cold for a couple days and didn't drink at all! And we're pretty big drinkers LOL I would have been so upset if we had purchased the package.

It is a common mistake to think that you need to consume 15 (or almost 15) drinks a day to come out ahead on the beverage package. You need to do the math on the average number of drinks you consume daily. For example, if your average drink costs $10, you come out ahead after your 6th drink plus a couple of bottled waters.

Not hard to take, as it's included for the first two guests in the stateroom.

However:

"Guests 1 & 2 who are under 21 will receive the Unlimited Soda & More Package."

...which is a huge rip-off. The under 21 guest is losing more than $50 per day.

Be careful. Not all orange soda on Princess is Fanta. I exchanged part of a minibar for what I expected to be Fanta (on the Crown I think). It was a brand I had never heard of and was terrible! Immediately exchanged remaining cans.

Thanks for the advice. I haven't found an orange soda I don't like, though some are better than others. The key to me, though, is whether or not it has caffeine, the whole reason I drink it instead of Sunkist or Crush.

Hubby had told me that I can't switch out the whole mini bar for it (he likes a Sprite at night occasionally, and doesn't want to have to find a bar), so I'm hoping I can use the PBP on it. We won't have time to hit the grocery store on the way, I think.

Great idea with the disembarkation mimosa! Will do this on my next cruise, makes leaving that much easier!

I have two cruises booked that I booked quite a while ago. I waited for the Sip and Sail to come along. Wow. No thanks. I could buy the package for less than the cost of switching to their "sale" pricing. Seriously.

I've gotten the sip and sale on my next 2 cruises and thought the 15 drinks was a high amount

I mostly drink wine or a cocktail before dinner

is 15 drinks really not that much in a day?

Read up on alcoholism and alcohol abuse. 15 is alcohol abuse - without a doubt. But it is up to the individual and their relationship to their liver and if they want to abuse their liver for a week, who am I to complain? As long as such alcohol consumption still allows appropriate behavior, and Princess can finance it, enjoy people!

My liver and I have reached an agreement that will allow for some consumption - but not that much!

You really don't need to have 15 drinks a day to make this pay off - a glass of wine with lunch, 2 cocktails before dinner, 2 glasses of wine with dinner - perhaps am after dinner drink, 2-3 cocktails for shows or in the casino plus a bunch of waters and some coffees during the day and you are making out great with the package. Since they put on the 15 drink limit I have only come close once to hitting 15 and that was because a new junior waiter in the dinning room put my wives dinner drinks on my card. We explained to the wait staff why not to do that and have never come close again.

I'm sure that this has been asked before but is there a list of spirits and wines that are at $12 or less? Asking for a friend.:halo:

I do not have a list but all of my favorites were included (under $12.00). They are Grey Goose, Absolut, Titos, Makers Mark, Buffalo Trace, John Jacob Rye, Dalwhinnie 15 y/o as for wine only 2 by glass at Vines are over $12.00. My favorite was the Silverardo Cabernet which was at $12.00 and included. This was based on my last cruise in May 2018. Hope this helps.

These are true for single shot drinks but on drinks with more than 1 shot (007 Martini's and Manhattans) you lose some of the better liquors such as Makers, Bulleit and Buffalo Trace. I was making do with Jack Daniels in order to get the larger size manhattans.

I noticed the smaller Manhattans when I ordered them with John Jacob Rye at the casino bar but the larger size was served to me at Vines. Either way I stick with the John Jacob Rye and still managed to stay under 15. :-) :D
