Sbjefm Posted July 21, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 21, 2018 I am thinking about purchasing the cheers program for our 8 day cruise because we only have 3 port days and I think we would actually make use of the cost then. My question is, What exactly do they calculate as your 15 drinks? Is it the alcoholic drinks that tally to 15 and all other beverages are just a bonus? Example, the specialty coffees or shakes or frozen cocktails. Would they apply towards the 15 drinks a day? Thanks. naxer Posted July 21, 2018 #2 Share Posted July 21, 2018 If it has alcohol in it, it counts as one of the fifteen. If it has no alcohol in it, it does not. Coffee and milkshakes do not count, but coffee with a shot does.
Sbjefm Posted July 21, 2018 Author #3 Share Posted July 21, 2018 Thanks. I’m just trying to figure out whether it’s better to just buy a bunch of in room beverages OR the cheers program. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
hftmrock Posted July 21, 2018 #4 Share Posted July 21, 2018 if everyone over 21 in the room will drink 5 or more alcoholic drinks a day plus some coffee, milkshakes, water, etc, then its probably worth it for you
Rare PrincessArlena'sDad Posted July 21, 2018 #5 Share Posted July 21, 2018 if everyone over 21 in the room will drink 5 or more alcoholic drinks a day plus some coffee, milkshakes, water, etc, then its probably worth it for you I would rephrase this: If the total alcoholic drinks purchased by those 21 or older averages at least 5/person/day, then it is worth it. If one person drinks 9/day, and the other drinks 3/day, it would be worth it for the cabin. (Assuming there is no issue with cost break down, such as for a husband and wife. With two friends traveling together, then it could be complicated to figure out how to split the cost).
SNJCruisers Posted July 22, 2018 #6 Share Posted July 22, 2018 Remember that you're back on board on a port day by 500 and even if you crash at midnight, that still gives you 7 hours to get your monies worth. Bottled water, coffee drinks, energy drinks, coconut water, bottled iced tea, milkshakes and soda are all included and unlimited. The Alchemy Bar is the best bang for your buck place to drink on the ship, where mixologists concoct drinks using fresh ingredients instead of bartenders using mixes and pouring pre-made drinks from a pitcher (which I have seen done at the poolside tequila and rum bars). The Alchemy Bar can also go "off menu" and make something specific to your tastes.

ricew001 Posted July 23, 2018 #8 Share Posted July 23, 2018 I love this spreadsheet for figuring out if it's worth it. I will do it again because: 1) It's easy to budget for and pre-pay 2) I don't feel wasteful if I don't like a drink or it gets watered down 3) I feel more free to try different things. I will do it again because: 1) It's easy to budget for and pre-pay 2) I don't feel wasteful if I don't like a drink or it gets watered down 3) I feel more free to try different things. Unfortunately though labeled as a Carnival spreadsheet the drinks listed are not all available on Carnival, especially many of the cocktails and wine labels listed. Personally I think the author of the spreadsheet looked at menus from another cruise lines and assumed Carnival would be the same. Though no prices listed here's a page with the basic Carnival drinks https://www.cruisecritic.com/articles.cfm?ID=813 Beers range from $4.95-$5.95 per bottle with some outliers at $6.50 and $7.50 Bottle water (0.5L), 10 oz can of juice, and 12oz cans of soda are $1.95, when fountain soda is available that's about $1.50 per glass. Icy Inventions and Tropical/Caribbean Cocktails are about $8.95 Frozen Favorites are about $8.25 Smoothies are about $5.50, while shakes from the coffee bar are about $4.50 (spiked available at the liquor price + like $2) Martinis start at $8.95, premium starts at $9.95 Many Alchemy coctions start at $11.95 Well drinks and shots are the same prices, starting at $6.25 for something like 7&7 going to $32 for an ultra-premium cognac (sorry don't know the name). Spiked coffee start about $5.50 while just a flavored specialty coffee is about $2.95 (tall)-$3.50 (Grande) plus $0.50 per flavor shot

2PinaColadas Posted July 23, 2018 #15 Share Posted July 23, 2018 Cheers is worth it to us. My DH likes better whiskies and I like fufu/frozen drinks. Both are expensive and add up quickly. Plus, I need my diet soda in the a.m., DH needs his coffee and we drink a lot of water throughout the day. OP-- anything with booze in it counts as one of the 15. They do have Clamato and can make a Caesar. The best ones are from the Casino bar. Did Cheers recently and I will never do it again. Stallion Posted July 24, 2018 #19 Share Posted July 24, 2018 I see some mentions of energy drinks--which ones? I used to bring on plastic bottles of Gatorade to avoid alcohol induced dehydration but Carnival only allows bottles/cans now. I tried the powder Gatorade but they didn't have G2 or my favorite flavors. Never really tasted the same

cruise4kicks Posted July 24, 2018 #21 Share Posted July 24, 2018 Attached is an updated version of the spreadsheet ricew001 posted earlier in the thread. Yes, maryred is right, it was originally created for another cruise line (Princess). I've been working on this for about a month, trying to get the most up-to-date information possible. It's still a work in progress, but much closer to completion with last week's help from user Carol Jones. (THANKS, Carol!) Let me know if it works. It was acting funky on my computer this evening. I had to back it from *.xlsx format to *.xls for archaic CC, so I think that may be a problem. Carnival Vista Cheers Evaluator.xls

mdsgu Posted July 24, 2018 #25 Share Posted July 24, 2018 The drink only counts toward your "limit" if: 1) it has alcohol in it, and 2) you use Cheers to pay for it. If you decide to get an Aberfeldy on the rocks, for instance, and tell the bartender that you want to pay for it outside of Cheers, it doesn't count. On my cruise before the last one, the Alchemy bartenders, at night, were very good at letting you know how many drinks you had -- "Sir, this is number 14 on Cheers." I could then choose to continue to drink by buying out of pocket, or I could get one more on Cheers. Note, however, that once you reach 15 drinks on Cheers, you are not allowed to even buy more. You are fully cut off. As long as you don't get that 15th drink, you can buy all you want.
