I didn't think great upgrades really happened anymore, but we just received a free upgrade from a BC balcony room, to a ME mini-suite, for our December 2018 10-day Mex Riv cruise. :DI guess Princess really needed our cabin!

Princesses’ need has nothing to do with it. They heard you were the Party Barbie and presto chango you got the upgrade. Now, just hold true to your name and it will be an upgrade wonderland every time you cruise. :p

Well partybarbie, you certainly have hit the jackpot. Only times we have been offered a cabin upgrade they wanted more $$$. It certainly was less than booking the new cabin outright. Nice to know that upgrades gratis are still available. Have a great cruise.

Thank you! Believe me, no one is more shocked than I am. I had to read the e-mail a couple of times because at first, I though they were just moving us mid-forward balcony to a mid-ship balcony. ;p

I will for sure. This was a totally unplanned cruise, that I just booked a couple of weeks ago, on the California Residents Promo. I'm so glad I booked it!

The emails and snail mail never stops. Minimum one email a day and a snail mail item twice(?) a month or more. And double that with the wife’s account.

 

I won’t even mention the Celebrity, Oceania, RCL and others “deals”.

 

I keep hoping for the free cruise coupon to show up.

I keep reading about these California resident promotions. I'm not getting them. Is it true...if you are booked on a cruise, they don't bother to send you promotions?

 

Sometimes I get the e-mails, but not always. It does seem like more come if you're not already booked, but then I had other cruises booked and still got the e-mail. Sometimes I don't see the promo's unless I am logged into Princess. I log in, then due a search for cruises departing from San Francisco and Los Angeles.

I always felt that emails really start coming when you have extra FCC's in your account.

Yes, we also got a free upgrade on our Alaska cruise last month. That one was from an inside to an obstructed ocean view. I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Lol, no he will be home working. He is coming with me in September though. I do feel bad enough that I haven't told him about the upgrade yet. ;p

Curious, can you tell me if you booked well in advance or just a month or less out? Another question, did you book direct with Princess or turn over to a TA? Reason for asking - 14 cruises on Princes, Never an upgrade fairy happening, however we always turn our cruises which we direct book over once final payment is due to Costco for extra OBC. Wondering if the upgrade fairy basically visits non TA bookings +/or last minute bookings such as less than a month out?

Humble brags really not appreciated by a lot of posters who have never received even a hint of an upgrade...while others 'post' that they get one every cruise from an interior to an OV, then to a balcony !!! - six months in advance...sure....:(

Sorry, I'm not trying to brag. This almost never happens to me. To have it happen twice this year is nothing short of a miracle. My young dog became suddenly ill on Friday, and despite rushing her to the vet, on Saturday she passed away. I would gladly give up cruising for life to have her back. I guess I was thinking this was the one tiny bright spot in my day that I was given a free upgrade. Or maybe because I have cruised with Princess over 60 times, they are finally giving the upgrades to Elite members instead of just new cruisers and casino players.
