obnoxious neighbors

You are doing a "what if" scenario....and if you worry about it too much, it's going to ruin your cruise. Cross that bridge if you come to it. We've yet to have "obnoxious" neighbors on any cruise, whether it's a a short "booze cruise" or a longer trip.....if your neighbors are being outrageously noisy...call the customer service desk and have them send security to check it out.

We had a family of door slammers next to us on the Getaway. Every they went in or out they slammed the door. There were 4 in the family and they always went 2 at a time. So annoying.

Slamming a door is intentionally forcefully closing the door or physically making an effort to close a door loudly. Going out of your cabin and letting the door close on its own is not slamming a door. Solid doors sometimes make noise when they close.

But yet people do. On every cruise I have been on I don't think a day went by when I didn't see a trash, plates, food outside of peoples cabin. I never understood it.
Maybe these people don't understand that when they put their trash, plates, food, etc. in the hallways, it becomes very difficult for others who use walkers, wheelchairs and scooters to get down the hallways or maybe they just don't care. When I've cruised in a balcony cabin, I just put the dishes on the floor inside the cabin and then when I leave the cabin in the morning, I put them on a counter.

Unfortunately for basically ever the convention for normal hotels has been to leave the room service trays outside the room when you’re done. I’ve never been a fan of the practice, but it’s the practice. When you add that the cruise hallways are much narrower than normal hotel hallways, it makes it much more difficult to get around for some folks. I agree especially for a suite you should let your butler or the cabin steward take care of it.

I ALWAYS put my finished plates and such out by my door. There is not much counter space in the cabins and what little there is gets used by things other than dirty dishes that I no longer need in my cabin. That is plenty reason right there.

All you have to do is call room service to pick them back up. That is what you are supposed to do. Not just throw them into the hallway for others to trip on because you don't have room for the dirty dishes you ordered.

What do you do in an event of noisy obnoxious neighbors? Can you call front desk or somebody to complain or would you ask them to be more considerate first?

We have never had this happen on all three cruises we have taken but never sailed NCL and with "open bar" I am a bit worried it will be a booze cruise.

I am okay with kids noise (to an extend) , but grown ups not being considerate I cannot tolerate lol

Make them an offer they cannot refuse.

That is what YOU CHOOSE to do. I don't use room service, I did not order anything. Besides I don't "just throw them in the hall", I sit them right up next to my door. Sorry if you are so clumsy with your walking.

Why would anyone extend noisy kids? :D

Interesting. I just know that every time they left their room it was really loud. Maybe wanted to be sure it was closed.

Letting the door close on its own is slamming the door!

That's what I thought. It seemed one would hold the door for the other then just let it go. It was a family of 4 so 2 would go, let the door close or "slam" then the other 2 would follow. I guess not a huge deal but still kind of rude.

I get the tightness of the cabins, but it really is bad to see plates and dirty linens in the hallway. Find space in your cabin, or call someone to come get them.

Music and smoking on the balconies is my biggest concern . It seems to be happening more

often .

As Bluetooth speakers become smaller and louder, I think this will be an issue on many cruise lines/resorts in general. Somewhere, cruise lines/resorts will start banning them, and it will spread...

Somehow I get the idea that you actually do believe that!

According to you then, about 90% of the people in the world slam a door every time they go through it. Please save yourself aggravation and do not boo a cabin next to us. :D

I never mentioned linens. If you do not like the dirty plate being by my door, then by all means feel free to pick it up and take it to the buffet as you walk by. It is common practice to do that everywhere I have been.

We were recently in an aft balcony with a suite next to us. Our neighbors thought that in the walkway to our door was the proper place to put their chicken wing bones on the floor so that they could be picked up. We pushed them back into their space twice before they were finally picked up later in the day by the crew. You would have thought that somewhere in the suite with all the counter space, tables and desk they could have placed this for their butler to take them away properly. They didn't place anything outside after the first full day on the cruise, I'm assuming the butler told them not to place things out in the hallway like that. We kept our glasses on our little counter in our room until the room steward came to do our room.

Thought that was really rude and not necessary especially being in such a big space like a suite.

I agree with you that nothing shall be left on the floor outside the door. There are no valid excuses to do that, I think.

You are wrong when you assume that every suite has lots of counter space, tables and desk. Some suites are just a small room with perks, not a big room with lots of space!

That is not what OCD means.....anyhoo, if you are having an issue with a specific person or group the simplest solution is to directly address that person/group (with few exceptions, such as fearing for your safety). I would only bring in outside support (i.e., cruise staff) if that didnt work. Simple communication can go a long way.

In a perfect world, absolutely yes. I used to believe that we all want the same things and that communication could resolve anything. Now I am old and have experienced how wrong that can be.

It's okay to be uninformed about something, but then you learn a better way.... So it's not okay to just let the door slam "on it's own". It's easy enough to stop it from slamming then pull it closed that last little bit, so as not to disturb your neighbors with a loud slam.

Leaving trays/dishes in the hall is not right, even if you see it all the time. The hallways are too narrow. Leave the dishes in your cabin, there is always room on the bed, couch, table, counter or somewhere (bathroom sink). It is a hazard for folks using canes/walkers.

I know one poster in particular will post that they don't care about other people and will ALWAYS continue to do what they have done. They obviously don't feel the desire to better themselves with knowledge.
