Anthem being diverted

Heading to Bermuda for a medical evacuation of a patient having a heart problem. Prayers are with them. We will be late getting into Bayonne Friday

Why would Anthem divert so far east to Bermuda as opposed to heading west towards the US?

The last port was St. Kitts, so it would be taking a more easterly route back to New York bringing it closer to Bermuda than the coast of the U.S.

Because the Captain and medical personnel decided it was best for the patient.  My guess is that they were probably pretty far east when the person got ill.

Is this the same sailing with the broken Air Conditioner?  If so I wonder if the heat brought on the heart issue?

I've  been following the No AC thread, and I'm wondering the same.  I certainly hope it is non-related.  But I know I wouldn't do well in a cabin of temps 80+ and I am healthy. Can't imagine what it would be like for those  with some health conditions.

They were over 100 miles closer to Bermuda than Florida  so they headed east. We will anchor just outside the channel. A boat from shore is picking up the patient and a ship nurse. The nurse will escort the patient to the ambulance and then get back on the boat. When the nurse gets back on anthem we will depart and head back to Bayonne. I am glad we are still moving towards Bermuda because that means the patient is still with us. Prayers are with our fellow passenger.

It is so weird to be on our sky loft deck looking at Bermuda in total silence. We are just floating in the middle of the ocean waiting for the nurse to come back. It was very sad to watch them transfer the stretcher into the pilot boat. I must say it was a very impressive feat as we were still moving quite fast when they did it.

We did something similar on an Anthem cruise last February.   If course some us wanted a full port stop to do some shopping.  Btw family members are seldom evacuated with the I'll passenger because there usually isn't room for them on the evacuation vessel or helicopter.  Medical person goes with patient.

It happened to us last January on our 12 niter to the Caribbean.

Happened 3 different times (Halifax, St John and off Connecticut) on our August 9 nite NE/Canada cruise.   It was interesting to see Pax Medivac off the Connecticut (?) coast as he/she needed blood transfusion

Guess it's expected based on the demographic.

I think passengers have medical issues doesn’t have much to do with a “cursed” ship.  I think I have heard alpha calls on every cruise I have been on.  Cruises at this time of the year are filled with people beyond the age of high school.

Now in this case with the AC issues who knows if that is causal.  Most likely not, but I am sure some “fine” lawyers will try to cash in on the otherwise side.
