We have Sunshine booked for June 2020 to Cuba and Key West.. Logged onto planner tonight and see itin is Nassau and Princess Cays. And no place to cancel on cruise planner. Was there a coupple weeks ago as I cancelled and rebooked a balcony cabin (had past guest deal).

So I called and an email was sent to my old email address, which had been updated a while ago. They sent email this morning. 'Due to port congestion' the itin has been changed. I cancelled and had no penalties since I booked a past guest deal. SIL booked ES and will call in to cancel. They better not give her trouble.

I certainly hope they don't charge her a penalty or keep her deposit. Changing ports mid cruise due to weather etc is one thing. A completely and drastically different cruise is entirely another. Best wishes for your SIL!

That’s pretty scary there. They’re charging more money for people to go on old ships to Cuba...because it’s Cuba. I’d be so mad if I booked that and they changed it.

Agreed. Good thing that this happened a year in advance as opposed to a month in advance.

And I am not sure why they are sending e-mails to an old e-mail address when I updated. I looked at my profile on the website last night and it shows updated info. The cancellation e-mail was also sent to my old e-mail and shows my old address on it too.

Not sure if SIL called in yet. But will post back after she does to inform what happened with her cancellation.

ooh man I'd be upset. Booking a cruise to think you're going to Cuba and then find out you're going to Nassau. That's like hopping on an airplane thinking you're flying to Hawaii only to land in Detroit.  Hope you guys get it straightened out.

That made me laugh, I was just picturing some guy getting of the plane wearing a Hawaiian shirt and straw hat and the look on their face seeing the "Welcome to Detroit" sign. :classic_laugh:

Seriously though, that itinerary change is very disappointing compared to what you booked.

We had friends booked on Caribbean cruise in hurricane season and hurricane was hitting so they got routed to Canada....in like early Oct. They were packed for Caribbean and had to buy anything warm they could find. They got a free cruise for that.

My SIL called and they refuse to refund her deposit. They want to move her to another cruise but she's a teacher and can't do the early June Cuba and she does NOT want Nassau or Caribbean. Booked specifically for Cuba.I can understand ship issues or weather issues being out of their control. But port overcrowding. BS. After 10 Carnival cruises, I am done with them.

The only 5 day Cuba out of Charleston (booked because I live in NC and can drive) options are June 8, Aug 3 and Aug 31. SIL is teacher and is bringing 15 year old who does HS volleyball. June 22 or July dates were all that worked for all of us and that's why we chose it. They won't cancel her without penalty even though they have no other options that work.

Sadly booking early saver means they keep the deposit if you cancel.

In this case I'd try calling again and talking to a supervisor as this is a completely different cruise then the one she thought she was taking.

If that doesn't work try John Heald on Facebook.

I would be upset too. I booked in 2020 on the Sunrise specifically for Cuba. They do charge more for that itinerary too. I'm on the one directly after that going to the Caribbean and it's almost $200 pp cheaper. Same ship, same room, same number of days just different stops. I sure hope they don't change mine as well. When I signed in this morning it still said Cuba.

Laumicmah I would ask for a supervisor. This is not what you booked. I would threaten to do a chargeback on the deposit if they don't refund. They changed the terms of the contract and you didn't agree to it.

I'm with you (Radiance 2020 Cuba booking).  The plan is based on going to Cuba...specifically Cuba....not any other island.  I was going to change it to casino rate to save some $$$....but if they rerouted it I would cancel, so I'll keep the past guest rate.

I also booked the Sunrise specifically for Cuba, on the 3/21/19 sailing.  I initially booked past guest rate, but changed to the casino rate last week.  So now if it changes to Bahamas and I have to cancel, the penalty would be $99 pp.  I will cancel if it changes rather than pay that much money to go to the Bahamas.  BTW, there have been four small price drops on that sailing since January 25, a total of $100.  Thanks for letting me know to keep checking the itinerary.

John Heald, on FB, claims that the port was closed for repairs and out of their control. But my e-mail from Carnival states the itin was changed due to port congestion.

Anyway, I am guessing this year's Cuba itins will not be affected. If either reason, I just mentioned, is true.

I've been debating adding a 6-day Magic cruise which is a ship I'd like with multiple ports I'd like...or a 5-day Cuba cruise on a ship I don't want to go on...a cruise where Cuba is the only attraction. This has me thinking of just continuing to put Cuba off. Flying to Florida to go on an old ship to Nassau doesn't sound good at all. I can drive to New Orleans or Galveston and do that.

Could you ask him to let you change cruises without ES penalty? Not the cruise you booked.

So someone called me and then my sister in law and helped her. Very happy with the results and am glad they stepped up. Have had many a good cruise with them (with a few bumps....we had another booking change ships a few months prior to cruise and we had 3 cabins that got separated all over ship, long story how that happened, so I had to pay extra to move them near each other again like I had booked on original cruise. I did so without complaint. But then this happened and I didn't even think they wouldn't give the option to get a refund. SIL was one of the 3 cabins on that other cruise as well. So odd that these last 2 cruises we booked together both had major changes prior to sailing). So they did refund. I would cruise them again as they did do the right thing.
