Carnival In Room TV Options--NOT GOOD

Are you talking about a cruise since restart? If so I'm surprised you were able to watch CNN. Carnival went to full streaming TV service before the pandemic and severely limited the number of TV stations. The only news station was CBSN, no CNN, Fox, MSNBC, HNN, no other news service. The problem with CBSN is they only broadcast 15 minutes of news. Then it repeats the sane news stories over and over.

It was CBSN I guess.....

Going back even farther, Carnival had offices in Colorado Springs and would run the local Denver news channels. We were entertained on one spring break Caribbean cruise by watching a snowstorm happening in Denver.

Yep. And after Miami, Carnival signed with Turner. At least then we still got a real news channel.

Copying and pasting this observation from CC member WGEDDINGS on their 8/1/21 Horizon cruise.

The TV service is THE SAME for the entire fleet, so this observation applies to all Carnival ships.

TV Stations – Although the TV was nice and large, you had to turn it off and on a couple of times before it would work.  From the comment of our cabin steward, that is normal.  The only channels are Carnival stations about food, excursions (not necessarily for the ones you are able to go on), ship cameras, spoken What’s Happening, TCM (Turner Classic Movies), HGTV, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, Discovery, Travel Channel (aka Ghost Hunters any time all the time), Food Network and CBS News.   There is no movie channel but there are on demand movies.  Some are free, some are $4.99

Our family cruises often and on various lines......RCCL/Norwegian/Carnival. Recently returned from the Breeze and I wanted to comment on the lack of stations to watch in staterooms. In the past few years, I have become used to having ESPN International and usually 2 news channels. I enjoy watching sports and have watched NCAA tournament games, football, NBA, Ryder Cup and baseball playoffs in the past.
Unfortunately, on the Breeze we only had access to CBS News channel (I've heard of Fox News and MSNBC, but never CBS News Network). No ESPN. No Fox Sports. Nothing. The US Women's World Cup final was not shown anywhere on the ship. For some reason, Wimbledon matches on ESPN were shown in the casino, but not in staterooms. How can they have an ESPN feed to show in public places, but not in Staterooms?
The news channel issue was just as concerning....never heard of CBS cable news network. Why cant Carnival give us CNN or FOX or MSNBC?

My guess.....money. There obviously is a cost to providing those networks to staterooms and Carnival opts not to pay it.

I may upset some Carnival fans with this post and I would like to know if there is a history to which channels are offered or other explanations for the low number of channels. (but please don't say that a person should be on vacation and not want to watch news or sports)

That person should be on vacation and not watch new or sports. LOL- but no really I'm sure it's cost tied to use. By and large most people on a cruise or vacation away from home in general just don't watch a lot of TV and the cost required to supply it to one thousand rooms whether they use it or not versus the handful of people that will make use of it doesn't balance in the end. Every access point for a channel cost money- so one thousand access points is MUCH more expensive than say three in the sports bar. Not to mention if you have to go to the sports bar to watch sports chances are you'll buy something there as well, so that side of the money picture exists in addition.

I'd be happy without a TV but do understand that others swear by it. Again I would order a smorgasbord of room service and watch a movie! It's a treat that hotels charge an arm and a leg for!

I am good as long as they have the three or four movies that they play in a loop. We enjoy cuddling up some and watching TV. The beds are so comfortable and we enjoy just relaxing.  So if the movies on a loop are there, we will make it!

Add a good entertainment station or two and expand the loops a bit. No political crap. People with children and teenagers may appreciate it more. News stations must be neutral and tell us news or balance it with different stations views.

Bring an Ipad, buy an Internet package and piggyback on whatever you have at home. Even on your balcony. Even download movies before you leave home.

Exactly

Also, many cable companies now offer streaming. I have Spectrum, I download the app and login, I can watch many of the cable channels, just not any "live local" channels like local news/programming, but you get the 24 hour news agencies and more.

Do you have to remove cable connections from the TV? And change what the ship gives to its passengers as per contract? Then return it back to that after you violate what you signed up for.

Lots of comments and/or complaints about the limited TV channel choices, but no comments about the very limited choice of music to listen to. We wish there was more to pick from than hip-hop or pop music. Maybe it's time to make use of the Spotify app on our tablet and create a playlist to listen to.
