adamrosie Posted January 1, 2020 #1 Share Posted January 1, 2020 I can’t believe that here we are in 2020 and RCCL still allows smoking INSIDE. It’s gross and a public health hazard. How do we pressure them to change this?

adamrosie Posted January 1, 2020 Author #4 Share Posted January 1, 2020 Yea not the answers I was looking for... I’d like them to ban smoking indoors or, create those big glass boxes so smokers can smoke inside and share their lovely 2nd hand smoke with each other. 1
cruisegirl1 Posted January 1, 2020 #5 Share Posted January 1, 2020 (edited) The only indoor spot is the casino. Bob calls it a smoking lounge with some gambling. Some (non US based ) itineraries don't allow smoking in the casino and Empress doesn't allow smoking in the casino regardless of itinerary. I believe Celebrity does not allow smoking in any indoor venue. There may be other lines as well. From the looks of all the full ships - it doesn't appear there is any reason for RCCL to change their policy. Rare twangster Posted January 1, 2020 #6 Share Posted January 1, 2020 Can we start with getting them to enforce the current smoking rules? That would be a huge plus.

That's why the only real way to get them to change their smoking policy is to not cruise with them.
BND Posted January 1, 2020 #8 Share Posted January 1, 2020 It's only a matter of time. Smokers in the US are down to 14% of the population and still dropping.

As previously mentioned, the Casino Royal is a smoking lounge. When I inadvertently cut through any casino on RCI, I notice more people just sitting there smoking and not gambling. Also even when the casino is closed people are there smoking. Maybe the solution is not boycotting cruising but boycotting the casino. 1

On the pool deck you'll learn which side is smoking and you learn to route your way around it. On some ships it's port side, on some ships it's starboard. Same with any lower outer decks that permit smoking. Just avoid one side of the ship, don't plan on walking around the outer decks. Avoid any venues near a casino entrance. On some ships that includes parts of the schooner bar. Hope you don't have people forward of you that smoke on their balconies. Hope you don't have too many smokers that just light up anywhere outdoors. At the moment Royal favors smokers and they aren't eager to enforce the smoking areas. Like the dress code they put their head in the sand and turn a blind eye to smokers.

I can’t speak for all ships but Majesty wasn’t that bad. It got smokier in the evenings when the tables were full but even as an asthmatic, I never felt like it was bad enough I had to leave. I like slot machines to kill time in between events. But everyone is different and not everyone can handle the amount of smoke I can tolerate, for example. I agree with an earlier poster who said their numbers are dropping and eventually they’ll be irrelevant.

True, but with many of RCCL's ships sharing time in Europe and other regions where European's travel, I do not see any incentive for RCCL to change any given ship non smoking for part of the year and smoking for another portion of the year. You're making assumptions about Europeans. Smoking is also dropping in most of Europe. In some countries it's as low as 6% of the population. And, as others have pointed out, it's already banned on ships sailing from the UK and Aus. Edited January 1, 2020 by BND
Rare twangster Posted January 1, 2020 #24 Share Posted January 1, 2020 (edited) Fear not! Majesty has a machine in the casino to filter smoke. One machine. Unfortunately it doesn't prevent the smoke from reaching into the Schooner Bar. It's okay unless you are a sports fan. The end where they play sports on the TVs is near the casino. The other end is where the piano is. If you are into sports and don't like smoke you are better to stay in your cabin and watch it on your generous cabin TV.
