Thank you for that link Moviela. It is very informative.  It's a daily situation report. Folks, take a look at the Jan. 25 report then the one on Feb. 2, to get an idea of how quickly this nasty bug spreads.

This would not be a bad idea but would have to be phased in carefully.  In my mind a passport has always been protection for the individual traveller.

If we knew that was the path the industry was going I would agree.  Another view would be they do this , and every cruiser who does not have a passport diverts to the other lines.  Then we could view it as a industry leader in going out of business.   The answer is the government and the industry need to lead the way, not one cruise line.

agreed. I don’t think they would even consider this. They are known as a budget cruise line and attract a lot of first time cruisers, infrequent travelers, and budget cruisers; all of which are less likely than the average traveler to have a passport.  I think they would lose a lot of business if they adopted this practice.

Actually, 14 days plus the length of the cruise since one would not know when a quarantine might start.

I’ve been following along on the Princess boards and it’s not something to make light of. The passengers are confined to their cabins for the 14 day quarantine period. Room service is being delivered, but they had to wait almost 15 hours before they were able to begin delivering food according to passengers posting to social media from the ship. 
 

It’s a mess. I couldn’t imagine being stuck in an inside cabin for 14 days and the only time I am able to open my cabin door is for health checks and to pick up/hand out room service trays. It would be like a prison cell. The only relief they have is that Princess has opened up the WiFi and phone lines. One can only watch so much TV and so many movies before they go crazy. 
 

I booked my first interior (with picture window) for a cruise in June trying to keep it budget friendly and this kind of thing has me considering an upgrade to a balcony which is what we usually book. It probably won’t be an issue by then, but this situation got me thinking. If something would cause me to be quarantined to my cabin, especially for 14 days, I would definitely want a balcony so I have access to fresh air.

This confuses me.  If you're not already sick, what medicine would your doctor prescribe?  Is there a prescription preventive for the virus?

That's not the point. I think TN was referring to people who take meds daily, and find themselves in the unfortunate situation that the cruise ship they are on has come under quarantine.

Yes, I always take extra meds for cruises... the length plus at least 3-4 days worth.  We went out of PC last August for a "4 day cruise" to the Bahamas on NCL, we ended up in Cozumel because of the hurricane and disembarked in New Orleans (a day late), had a flight out to home the next day. I had enough meds to make it home...

Wow. I didn't realize that everyone was quarantined in their cabins!  I had this image of everyone hanging out at the pool or casino for 2 weeks on an extended vacation!

 

Honestly, quarantining people to cabins for that long is really inhumane.  Murderers in prison are better off than that! Only those with symptoms should be quarantined (and if you're sick, you don't mind laying in bed!)

I think the problem is you can be sick but asymptomatic for up to 14 days. So there is no way of knowing if a seemingly healthy person could actually be sick and capable of spreading the virus.

That is ridiculous.  If you don't have a PP,  then obviously you haven't been to China.  

 

And this would be for the government to make that call as they are they ones who say you don't need one for a closed loop, not the cruise lines.
