We’ve been out for a walk and coffee this morning to make the most of the fresher conditions. We went to Hempstead Valley, and it was only when we were walking home that I remembered that I was going to enquire in Boots about flu jabs. I’ll do it next time.

Now watching Sky News - the extent of the Wennington fires are breathtakingly awful. How can it be ignored for something fluffy and feel good?

When I booked my Boots flu jab online they were marked as not available in Hempstead Valley. They have also started dispensing some repeat prescriptions elsewhere and delivering them to the Hempstead pharmacy in sealed bags. This increases the number of days for the prescription being ready to collect, not good.

Still 27 degrees in our lounge, warmer inside than out. Had an emotional morning. I went with my daughter to her middle son’s leaving assembly. It was really good and all the children enjoyed it. Leo has autism but has been in mainstream school up to now. The school has always been brilliant with him and he has progressed really well. In September, however, he will be going to a more specialist school which will suit his needs for the next stage of his life. Obviously we are all concerned as to how he will deal with the transition but the school has a good reputation. Every change in his life takes time for him to adapt to but I’m sure he will cope with this one in the fullness of time.

The irony is that Wennington fire station is only 20 yards across the road. You could see firemen in their yard spraying water on the fields behind.2 of my mates were firemen there 20 years ago, part of LFB.

My prescriptions currently get automatically sent to Hempstead Boots, but I'm getting so fed up with waiting in a queue for 40-50 minutes each time, that I think I'm going to re-route them to Fenn's at  Parkwood precinct next month. When I went last week I had to wait 45 minutes and there had only been 3 people in front of me.

Perhaps the Hempstead store has been downgraded in some way, maybe they don’t have a pharmacist available at all times

I’ve always collected any prescriptions from Fenn’s, over the years, and have found them to be pretty good, with not too long to wait. But haven’t been in recently

OMG,sounds like we are so lucky. We have a little Boots 100 yards round the corner and just pop in for our repeat statins with little waiting,if there are more than 2 waiting we just come back later.Romford still has a walkin jab center with or without appointments.

No not, teed off at all. The last few days has been a salutary look into our not too distant future.

What you said reminds me of the prevailing attitude to the thing we can’t mention. ‘The problem is too big so instead of doing what we can, we won’t do anything at all’

Like turn off the Aircon in the car and ask the hairdresser not to contribute to global warming, or doesn't that matter in the too big problem?.

Indeed, but whatever we do here in the UK makes not one iota of difference.

It makes a difference to air quality though, which can only be a good thing for people living in areas with poor air quality and the associated health risks.

But we are talking climate change, not air quality.

The protestors on the M4 today would have my support if they demonstrated in India or China, but just making a theatrical point in the UK, which in the end will have caused more pollution and increased petrol consumption due to the increased congestion , is sheer gesture politics.

It’s still an important element in the grand scheme of things. These elements are all linked.

I wouldn’t like to strictly define ‘gesture politics’, but without people taking a stand in the past, I wouldn’t have a vote today!

I am all in favour of taking action, where the is a distinct possibility that the action may produce the desired outcome.

However, how does tying yourself to a gantry on the M25 influence the decisions in China and India ?

At the very least the protesters could have chained themselves to the Indian and Chinese embassies in order to make their point.

I try to collect first thing Sunday morning and that has worked so far. Maybe a couple of people in the queue.

Dumped Boots about 5 years ago for my prescriptions after numerous problems with them getting it right, I switched to local independent pharmacy and receive a much better service, Boots are not the same company since it’s takeover by US company WalGreen.

As has been very apparent recently, our air often travels long distances and can pick up pollutants from many other countries on it's way to the UK. So even in if we put a stop to all our pollution, we could still end up with poor air quality.

Which takes us back to what Billish was saying . We all live on the same planet ,

we need  to start looking after it . No easy answers though .

I've done it all wrong again!!!!"  I hinted and hinted that we never seem to do things "off the cuff" without a long time planning, ie we book cruises, dinners, short breaks very early.   "I wish we could do things just on a whim"   says me.   So he agreed and we booked a cruise to Norway in three weeks time on Bolette.🙃11th to 19th August allowing one night in Southampton.

Then I remembered....THE CAT.    I've tried about 30 catteries, little ones, big ones, and one Hotel at £40 a night but no luck.  Now what do I do.   He says he's going on his own!!🙂

If any  Kentish friends have any ideas I would be  very grateful.  I'm feeling a bit silly and desperate.

Have you tried a cat sitting service? You can book some one to come in each day to feed and water the cat, and do anything else required. Unfortunately I don’t have any recommendations, but it might be something to explore

We are back from our latest Princess cruise and are now trying to decide whether to go ahead with the one that we have booked for October.  We have never been disappointed by a cruise on any line because we don't expect perfection but our experience on Emerald Princess was the worst we have had on any cruise.  I am now concerned about going on Emerald Princess again.  I am going to call our Princess contact tomorrow to look whether it is possible to transfer our planned cruise to a different ship.  Each problem was dealt with satisfactorily on board at the time but the number of problems was ridiculous, the worst being a broken pipe in the ceiling which woke us up at 5:40 am dripping on OH's head but it was just the final straw after so many minor problems.  We have been told that the ship will be having a dry dock for the 2 weeks before our next cruise, so either everything will be fine or there are likely to be snags following the dry dock work.

I have never been so desperate to leave a ship but we were off the ship 6:20 this morning as soon as we able to carry our own luggage off.

There were a number of Covid cases on board, we were told that it was around 200 cases but as is usual there was no official confirmation of numbers, we only know for certain that the 2 people next door to us were taken away and the cabin was deep cleaned by a team dressed in protective clothing.
