Casino Rate - What is it and what are the pros and cons if you qualify?

our Canadian cruising friends get casino discounted fares plus free drinks while at the slots.. I asked them how once and they replied that they did not gamble much but did regularly charge 100.00 to their on board account at the casino but then cashed it in and did not gamble all of it. seems like the way to go!

After gambling pretty moderately on a California Coastal cruise about 18 months ago we received an email offering us a casino rate discount on a Mexican cruise. We went ahead and booked a Mexican cruise with the casino rate just a couple of months out. We really didn’t give it another thought, figured it was a one time deal since we’re not anything close to being high rollers. When we were on another Mexican cruise earlier this year we decided to talk to the Future Cruise representative on board and booked B2B cruises for next year. As the Princess rep was doing the booking on her computer she said “let me check if you are casino rate” and sure enough we were and received discounted fares. Odd that Princess never notified us that this was an ongoing thing, we had never mentioned to our Travel Agent so he would check that rate when booking for us. Now we know to always check.

Casino rates are pretty standard for all frequent gamblers. The difference is in the amount of free play you qualify for. We had $800 each for a May cruise. Of course that was canceled so can only hope they will honor it in April 2021

Lots of good information on this thread.  I have only recently been getting casino offers but these offers have been consistent with above gambling about 100 a day.  Some notes

1.  This year there were some good last minute casino offers.

2.  Princess has a relationship with Stations Casinos in Las Vegas but does not seem to use it much whereas Boyd Casinos are more integrated with Holland America (free cruises depending on status) and Celebrity is more integrated with MGM Casinos (elite tier status on Celebrity good for free parking and Opal status).  I suspect Princess has not needed the depth of a casino partners player list to fill cabins but is certainly an opportunity.

3.  I saw an email with a casino host consolidator offering free cruises on Celebrity for any cruise in the Caribbean for the fall.  This is unheard of for Celebrity to go down to my level of play to offer anything through this consolidator.  The most I see is a one off discounted fare on Royal Caribbean - I would not be surprised if Princess doesn’t go deep into their player files when operations resume.

With no where to go or play while building PTO and a future cruise credit waiting for a cancelled cruise I hope to take advantage of last minute casino offers once things start up again.

We were able to take advantage of a couple of casino offers. I don't know why we were included, but I was glad we were. One was $399 per person for a balcony on a 10-day cruise. For that cruise, we ended up getting an upsell to a suite for $699 more per person. I jumped on that chance. We enjoyed the extra room and other perks but were OK going back to a regular balcony cabin on our next cruise. That one was also a casino offer--$319 per person for a balcony for a 7-day cruise.

I've never gambled more than $150 on a cruise, and I think that amount was after we took those two cruises.

The casino comped me a free cruise to Alaska last August.  It was for an inside and we paid $199 pp to upgrade to a balcony.  First time I had ever been offered a freebie, I'm guessing it's because of the jackpot I won in January.  It was wonderful.

I had $400 of free play on a May cruise that was cancelled.  I contacted them through the casino website and asked them to move it to a cruise we have scheduled in October and they did so.  I'm not sure if they have been furloughed but you can try to fill out the information here to see what happens:  https://oceanplayersclub.com/contact/

Edited to add:  Select the "Request Casino Offer" toward the bottom

I got an email for a casino rate once - after mistakenly spending $13 on a slot pull (I normally spend25c). I hardly gambled at all that cruise but it must have somehow put me in the "high roller" category for awhile. I have not gotten any casino offers since.

I got a free cruise thru Venetian/Palazzo in Vegas. I chose the brand new Sky 10 days going to Aruba in November. Only have to pay taxes/port fees. I did have to put a non refundable $200 but will give back as OBC once on the ship. Never cruised Princess so was excited to try. Hopefully we are able to cruise by that time!

I called my Princess Rep. in Santa Clarita, CA and he said even though the offer states he could book it, he was not able to.  He did transfer me to the Casino Dept.  Been on hold over 90 minutes.  Hoping our interested voyage is still available.  I guess its a good thing to pass the day being on hold planning out next cruise for 2021.

Rearranging FP seems to be hit or miss then; I tried doing that a few weeks ago over the phone since I had about 3k on cancelled voyages... they said they couldn't do anything about it. Maybe the passage of time or going via website submission will prove more fruitful, despite that other email about reissuing certs but not FP.

Also, no emailed offer in the last few days, but I did get a physical mailer for one in May. 🤔

I received an email last night from Princess Casino with an offer of a free cruise+$500 Casino cash+ Drink, free wifi and grats.

7 different "local cruises offered" any others get this?

We got the same email, but with $250 in play. I'm checking with my TA to see if it is up-gradable.

We would use the FCC from a cancelled 3 day repo cruise and try to upgrade to an obstructed balcony.

We'll see if it can be done. A free 7 day MR cruise? YES PLEASE!

I was on hold for 2 hours this morning before having to drop off the phone. I am trying again this afternoon. It's a shame that only the casino department can book this. Good to know that you can upgrade from the interior room offered!  We already booked a "free veranda" on Celebrity for November, but it didn't include the drinks, wifi and tips so I'm excited to get this Princess offer also.

Just not updated - the Wow bands were added at the dry dock. The part about being not reusable might be correct in terms of official policy, but many ships do in fact allow reuse.

I got the same offer last night with $250 free play.  Tried 3 times and was on hold over an hour each time.  My PCP could not book it for me so she transferred me to the casino department.  Still on hold.  I guess I'll just scroll through cruise critic for a while.  It is really not good for Princess to send out these emails and not have adequate staff to handle the phone calls.  I'm not counting on being able to book but will try.  Not much else to do while we are just hanging out at home.
