Will Florida cruises start back up in October?

Recommended Posts

Every time this thread comes up I ask the same thing.  What has changed now versus March that has allowed cruising to be safer?

Is the virus less prevalent?
No

Is there a miracle drug?

No.

Is there a vaccine?

No.

Do we have herd immunity?

No.

Is the virus SIGNIFICANTLY less virulent?

No.

Has Covid magically disappeared from

the earth?

No.

Until we get some major change in how the virus acts or we can manage it, cruises will continue to not sail.

We could, but we must quarantine for 2 weeks when we return so that’s a no.  If I have to quarantine it will because we went away in the dead of winter, and even then I will have to think about it.

LOL I meant that tongue in cheek. So is that why the Blue Jays can't play in Toronto? Rumor has it they are considering playing here at the AA Fisher Cats field, since there is some problem with AAA Buffalo. That would be cool. We could book a room at the Hilton Garden Inn overlooking the ballpark.

AIDA (Carnival) and Tui (Royal j/v) are starting up ops in Germany soon. Baby steps. Let's see how that goes.

I should have added that I meant out of the US.

We are great at shooting ourselves in the foot and our litigation in the US is second to none.

Yes I am hoping the cruise lines will use these initial cruises to refine their plans to work in the U.S. Clearly the U.S. is not the place to start experimenting.

Already NCL is not booking any cruises for October, and their final payment date is 120 days, and once RCI is past final payment date for all October cruises look for the announcement.

There are still October cruises (NCL)  to Bahamas and Caribbean on their website

They are on the website but cannot be booked, supposedly all sold out.

Gotcha  Didn't follow it all the way thru  Wonder if that means that they will be making their announcement soon about cancelling thru October?

We had two cruises booked for December 2020 one on  RCCL and other one Princess  (Enchanted) and another one booked for late Jan 2021 out of LA.  We cancelled them yesterday.    No issue. All were booked with fully refundable deposits.   Money to be refunded to credit cards.  Albeit, one had a deposit of only $2 bucks on it while other two were the $100 per person NEXT cruise deposits.  No issues at all.  We are going play a wait and see approach.  With the numbers skyrocketing in Florida and California (we are very low here in Canada - our province of 14 million only 135 cases today - because we are a bunch of rule followers!! - masks, masks, masks, social distancing, etc...), we are going no where (even if we wanted to) to the US at all.   And when we do start travelling internationally again, we will be driving (no airplanes for us until a vaccine is available and proven to keep COVID at bay.  Health before cruising for us.  Sad, but that is the way for the next couple of years I am thinking.   Thank heavens I got in four cruises this year prior to March 16.

This point I strongly doubt it. My doubt is great enough that we ask our wonderful TA to lift and shift our side to side cruisers that begin 10/31/2020 to 2021. While we got a great deal in doing that, I would have a really rather been on those 2020 cruises ☹️

Agree, 1st choice would be my Nov/Dec 2020 Cruises over the Fall2021. Scored Aft/Corner B3B on Vision day they were released 19months ago. Haven't been on the Ship Class in 18+ yrs, might been my last chance as she and her sister ships are retired.

Doubt it. Many people in Florida are out of control and the virus is out of control.  I have a b2b out of ft lauderdale in jan, but I bet it won’t sail

Keep it up and there won't be anyone else in Florida to get it. They'll be rid of it one way or another, and wont rest of us look silly....not!

Yeah we did 6 weeks on RCCL and HAL last winter, the most we've ever done in a winter.  So glad we did.  Got off a HAL ship March 15, last day for cruising except for the quarantined prison ships.

Lifted and shifted everything out to October 2021 and beyond.  We're over it for a while.

New York - 412k reported positive cases w/ 32,187 tragic deaths

Florida - 350k reported positive cases w/ 4,981 tragic deaths

Death stats lag a few weeks, but based on this data Florida (media's fav COVID fear porn state) won't sniff what happened in NY.

Possible scenario's -

1.) avg age of infection is younger (0-55) healthy people who have better chances of dying in a car accident than from COVID

2.) virus weakening?

3.) physicians are better at treating patients

Within the next 10-17 days we will have better data on Florida's peak and death rate.

Back to the original topic - there is 0% chance of cruising from Florida in October - not until there is a vaccine

Still 10-17 more days?

Memorial day and SpaceX launch were almost 7 weeks ago

At 10,000 cases a day I think it will take almost 6 years for everyone to get it here in Florida😇

Agree, was kidding. Other recent Pandemic it worked as 50 Million caught Disease after about 8 months just burned out. Though Death totals were lot lower...
