My favorite part was back on April 6th when they announced the "Return to the Sea", and told me with a straight face: "these sailings are DEFINITELY going to happen"...

Same for me. I even told them that I had paid a fee to have airline miles reinstated and couldn’t afford to be burned again.

I was told the same. And I love how they just lumped this cancellation in with a bunch of other sailings that were bound to be canceled due to the delay in sailing to/from US ports, as if it's all due to COVID and concern for the "health and safety of the passengers and crew". This has ZERO to do with health and safety and everything to do with their revenue grab.

Yeah a real shame and definitely shady. I talked to three different agents yesterday about something else and they all said it has been real slow and no bookings and hoping things will improve. Doesn't help when they price these sailings higher than pre-covid (in general) and then stuff like this reinforces a lack of stability that makes people hold off.

Is this one of those, "it's better to ask for forgiveness than permission?"

Not really......... NCL has already put in a contingency that the Bliss sailings are subject to CDC approval (which they aren't yet).  See below:

Norwegian Cruise Line has announced further details on its phased voyage resumption plan for additional ships beginning Fall 2021. Earlier this week the line announced its plan for a return to cruising in the U.S. with sailings in Alaska starting August 7, 2021 contingent on CDC authorization. Newly announced expected redeployment plans include the following:

  • Norwegian Joy will cruise from Miami beginning October 19, 2021 with five to 11-day Caribbean voyages.
  • Norwegian Breakaway will cruise seven-day itineraries to Bermuda from New York beginning October 24, 2021.
  • Pride of America will offer seven-day Hawaii interisland voyages from Honolulu beginning November 6, 2021.
  • Norwegian Bliss will cruise from Los Angeles for seven-day Mexican Riviera voyages beginning November 7, 2021.
  • Norwegian Encore will offer seven-night itineraries from Miami to the Caribbean beginning November 14, 2021.
  • Norwegian Escape will cruise seven-day itineraries to the Caribbean from Orlando (Port Canaveral), Florida beginning November 20, 2021.
  • Norwegian Pearl will sail from Miami offering Panama Canal, Bahamas and Caribbean cruises beginning December 23, 2021.
  • Norwegian Jewel will offer Panama Canal cruises from Panama City and New York beginning January 20, 2022.
  • Norwegian Sun will sail a five-day Japan itinerary from Hong Kong beginning January 28, 2022, before sailing a variety of 11-day cruises from Hong Kong, Singapore and Bangkok.
  • Norwegian Spirit will cruise 12-day Australia and New Zealand voyages from Sydney, and Auckland, New Zealand beginning February 9, 2022.

Due to the previously disclosed lead time needed to relaunch a vessel and in order to maximize the short Alaska cruise season, the cruise line has made the decision to transfer crew from Norwegian Joy to Alaska and has canceled itineraries aboard Norwegian Joy from Montego Bay, Jamaica from August 7 through October 9, 2021. In addition, certain sailings outside of these newly announced voyages have been canceled. Impacted guests on voyages that will not operate will be notified accordingly.

I have a friend who works for a certain well known conservative-leaning news network on which Frank Del Rio regularly appears. I'm tempted to ask him if he can get Neil Cavuto to ask FDR about these cancellations, something along the lines of "a lot of loyal NCL passengers are upset about the cancellation of some of these latest cruises that were supposed to represent the Return to Sail, can you assure them they'll be properly compensated?

MR Del Rio Started all this with the Governor and BLEW IT... He wanted to play hard ball when he could have tried to play diplomat in a time of crisis - win/win.

Mr Macho Man Miami - He lost that battle and has been losing ever since, now he is trying to save face and his job!!

Well I'm not going to help him.. I'm selling my stock and depending on how we get out of this last canceled cruise.. I am done with NCL - at least for a while - they have not been honest in their  treatment of customers with the last cancelations - BAD BUSINESS.  My Money -

MY CHOICE-- Hello ??????

I was told the same, too!  "OH BET ON IT....THIS CRUISE IS HAPPENING!"  And, hiding behind the whole "COVID" blanket when you're requiring all passengers and crew to have the vaccine is yet another lie.  I am so fed up with cheats and liars.

So much for my hope that the Joy was going to be moving to Miami and they would let me keep my booking!

I jumped ship to  RCL Symphony . Got a great price on a suite ,  cruising from Miami  with 4 stops. Free wifi, free boozes.  Changed our flights. If THIS cruise cancels I will become apoplectic!

Didn’t Royal Caribbean do the same thing, hence the title of this thread?

Florida Man was the one who turned this into a huge mess. A vaccine-positive (or, good grief, *neutral*) stance could have pulled the industry out of the tailspin so much sooner.

It isn't just sailings out of Florida that have been cancelled.  Look at that list.

Not exactly.. Royal did not start a fight with the Gov of Florida, they played diplomatically ...

The Governor of Florida has the first responsibility to the citizens of Florida; To which most citizens have been quite happy with how he is doing...NOT to pander to NCL

The CEO of NCL (Mr Del Rio) has a responsibility to his STOCK HOLDERS to project the company to make the most profit.... Leaving the state to set up shop in unknown territories was a STUPID/costly move. BUT Del Rio threatened,  so he had to save face and it will probably cost him his job... I hope so.

Do you really think NOT trying to be diplomatic with the Head politician of the Majority state you do business is a smart move.. Alienating and upsetting your customer base is a smart move??  Just asking

Is the free wifi and drinks package part of booking a suite?

On this class of ship, yes. There are 3 "classes" of suites with different and increasing amenities. We are in the middle group. (Sea,Sky,Star level) Yes, It's not all inclusive drinks but there are beer, wine, soda, bottled water etc available 11a-11p. There are mixed cocktails = anything you desire pretty much- in the suite lounge from 4:30-8:00 each evening. The Coastal Kitchen is the Suites restaurant for all 3 meals; unlike the Haven the dinner menu changes daily. Everyone on the reservation gets the free interwebs. We have sailed this class before and also once  got upgraded to the top Star class . (  1200sf suite for the two of us and a Genie). Between the snacks, the drinks, the L'Occitane toiletries and the concierge to assist if needed, there is little difference between the Sky class on RCL and Haven on NCL. No separate pool but there is a private sundeck. Escort on and off ship if desired, seating in the theater.

Just looked at Royal - some decent rates I think we may jump to them too.

Vague reminder for those thinking about RC: Fain has mentioned waiving vaccine requirements for “religious reasons”. (Although I assume people who have been trying to book NCL throughout the pandemic aren’t that concerned about vaccines maybe.)

Nah, he uses the word religious.

For passengers, Fain said, “the first alternative structure is where virtually all the guests are vaccinated. There will be some exceptions, such as people who can’t get the shot for medical reasons or religious reasons …”

For people considering Royal. Don’t forget this thread started because of Vision OTS.

Really good point: NCL pulled a Royal, so I'm booking with.... Royal. Hmmm..

I am super curious what NCL is going to offer those of us who were canceled on the Joy. if they just offer us the straight refund, I am going to be so done with them. They billed this sailing as a return to cruising for those of us who had had multiple cruises cancelled. To pull the rug out from loyal customers would be pretty egregious. Especially now that we know they did it just to steal our crew away for the Bliss sailings. Unfortunately, I have a LOT of money tied up with NCL in CruiseNext, CruiseFirst, and a ton of FCC, so I am probably going to have to sail with them at least a couple more times in the next year or two, but once that credit is exhausted, if they really do nothing to compensate us beyond a refund, I am going to have to start cruising elsewhere. We are booked on the Majestic Princess for Alaska in September. So we'll at least get to try out another line and see how it goes.

Pretty much thats it. Same boat as you. I used a 10% coupon (1 of 2 I had) on this Oct 2nd Joy sailing, and..... yup if you used one on this sailing you dont get anotner. So I basically get back my previous FCC and CN Certs used to book this and my prev 10% coupon. Nothing more. Lets hope my 500$ deposit for Secrets of Montego Bay comes back to me as its supposed to.

Thats Frank man... Follow the money. Im not surprised.

Im booked on Celeb out of SXM June 12th, wouldnt be surprised if that gets the ax at the last minute either if the revenue dictates it. Just is how it is.

ok so.... Where is the Joy going if its not slated to begin service in Miami until after the Jamaica sailings were over anyway? Why piss all of your loyal guests that have reinvested FCC after FCC into you just to free up a ship to go... nowhere? Theres got to be more to this we dont know.
