Peace Of Mind Reinstated

I’m booked for late January using a Peace of mind FCC from August 2021 (expiring Aug 2022).

If I cancel under this new update, it sounds like they will give me a new FCC with expiration date at end of 2022? So I would get 4 months of additional time on the FCC?

If NCL cancels my cruise, would I be able to get a cash refund even though I originally made the final payment with a peace of mind FCC?

My January reservation/FCC is in euros under European rules to further complicate things.

Also don’t forget that like all cruise lines they have a Casino list, so if they want to fill the ship up they can lower the criteria for a free cruise to get some takers.  From what I have seen, people cycle through more money in the casino than the actual cruise fare.  Excellent source of revenue for them.

I just called and got a FCC for my trip I was supposed to go on next week. The lady I spoke with said she thought she'd be getting more calls for cancellations than she was. Of course, NCL hasn't made any public announcements yet, so only a few know that is even an option.

So just to clarify... you were under the original 15 day cutoff, but they still let you get the FCC under Peace of Mind?

My wife and I are supposed to be going on the Bliss in 10 days.  She's been feeling sick and got a positive result from a home test.  Waiting for the results of the pharmacy test and hoping it's negative.

I know they'll give me the FCC with covid documentation if that ends up being the case, but it might be easier if I can just cancel with Peace of Mind, that way I'm not having to prove anything to them.

Another question for those who know:  if you get a covid positive test, does the FCC have the same expiry as Peace Of Mind?

Yes, I think this was what Carnival did at one time.  We got very cheap offers for some of their upcoming cruises awhile back.

Thanks for posting that.  For me and others sailing in May, the following has much more significance.

"For cruises departing thru October 2021, cancel up to 15 days before embarkation date and get a full refund in the form of a Future Cruise Credit. Additionally, for all cruises departing through May 31, 2022, cancel up to 61 days prior for a full refund."

I now know that I can keep my wallet closed through  January and not have to make any decisions until March.  That's the one I was waiting for!!  😎

I used FCC from March 2020 to rebook my current March 2022 cruise, so I am just outside the final payment date.  Being outside, if I choose to cancel:

Reservations cancelled outside of final payment will receive a full refund back to the method of payment used to book. If outside final payment and an FCC was used as payment, the original FCC will be added back to the guest’s profile.

The returned FCC will revert to either expired dates or expiration dates sooner than Dec 31, 2022.  So it appears that, in my situation, it is better to wait until final payment has passed and receive new FCC?

New FCC issued is to be used for sailings that embark through December 31, 2022.

Either way, it seems the line drawn is that all FCC must be sailed by December 31, 2022.

I'm planning to hold out and either sail or hope the cruise is cancelled.  I doubt I'll be able to find a more hospitable cruise in 12 months. I don't think there will be much of a difference in the COVID situation between March vs. any other date in the next 12 months on top of coordinating departure port/itinerary and time between work and school schedules.

So I guess I'm saying I'm not very impressed with the part that says "to be used for sailings that embark through December 31, 2022."

Can you share any of the text from that email?  Thx.

Yes it has be reinstated for all sailings through 5/31/22.

Also we are aware that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently updated its Cruise Travel Health Notice recommendation to a Level 4 given the recent rise in cases globally due to the Omicron variant. The change in recommendation has not impacted scheduled itineraries or our stringent health and safety protocols which include full vaccination of 100% of guests and crew. Our mandatory vaccination policy is coupled with universal pre-embarkation testing of guests at the terminal, mask requirements on board and numerous additional layers of protection against COVID-19. As a result of our comprehensive health and safety protocols, we believe that vacationing onboard any one of our 28 cruise ships is safer, and guests are better protected from contacting COVID-19, than in any other general population setting. We take health and safety matters extremely seriously and will continue to work closely with the CDC and other global and domestic authorities to protect our guests, crew and the communities we visit.

So the information above is coming from emails or other correspondence from NCL, correct?  I do not see any way to get to the POM/Book With Confidence page from NCL's web site.  It looks like it should be on the Why Norwegian menu on the home page (and I think it used to be there before the original expiration) but there is no link as of now.

If people are getting emails, has anyone with a sailing around the end of January received one yet?

I talked with someone at NCL this morning and they said they are not going to send out an email. That the updated policy is on their website. I was also told that for my Jan 16th 2022 cruise that I can cancel up to 24 hours before sailing and receive a full credit on what we have paid but that it has to be used before the end of 2022. I've been looking and the cruises are much more expensive then when I booked this one and we are going to the Southern Caribbean which only has limited sailings (Jan-March, or December 2022). It truly will cost us twice the price to move it to another week so not sure what we are going to do yet. Maybe hold out and hope it is cancelled.

It's been almost 4 hours and they never called me back. Now that I've had time to think about it, I wonder if instead of a FCC if my Chase Sapphire Reserve would force a refund since the CDC is now advising against cruise travel. 🤔

No, they absolutely will not. If your cruise is still sailing then they have met their terms of your purchase. You CC will not help you.

When NCL was being crappy about refunding my money for a cruise THEY canceled, I took it to my CC they didn’t even help then!  Capital One - who are usually outstanding but not in this case.

Just curious if any of this will apply to us.  We booked our Getaway 12/27/21 cruise in January 2021, and also purchased Platinum coverage thru NCL.  We cancelled our 12/27 cruise on 12/22 sighting “Covid safety concerns”. NCL said they were going to refund part of my money, (deposits, cruise next) and that I should file a claim with their insurance underwriter for the rest.  Said I would lose cost of travel insurance, and 10%.  I’ve already filed an online claim.  I wonder if I shud contact insurance and find out I shud put hold on claim, given the reinstatement of NCL’s POM policy?

Credit card companies are great for somethings but when it comes to cruising it’s like the cruise line have gotten a iron clad hold on the CC.  They might temporarily give you a conditional credit but in the end they always reverse it when the cruise company send over the contract of carriage that you agreed to when you paid.  It never works out in your favor going through the dispute route.

I just called and cancelled for POM.  The call center said I should expect a wait time of 55 minutes.  A very nice agent picked up the call in 2 minutes.  I was really surprised.  She said everything was going back to FCC except for the cost of the insurance and my 10% coupon.  Could take up to 14 days for it show up on my account.  I questioned why the insurance was not refundable and she said it was because it would not be fair to others who cancelled using their insurance before the issue of POM.  I understand that.

If you have already canceled before they made the change you will have to go through the insurance policy route.  NCL won’t revert back.

You are 100% correct. Spoke with Chase benefit this morning. Only thing they will pay is if we test + at port AND we have to have a doctor say we can't travel. Then they would kick in for the quarantine expenses.

We decided that we didn't want a bunch of money tied up with NCL. We will be going on our cruise instead of asking for FCC.

Does anyone know if we used a 25% discount (from original March 2020 cancellation) and a 10% discount (from a January 2021) cancellation on this cruise and we decide to cancel our January 28 cruise do we get those discounts returned to our account or do they disappear? I did go online and cancel all of my upgrade bids, figuring that it would my luck that they would accept and then I would cancel.

I just got off a chat via the NCL web and Michael , the NCL chat person, confirmed the Peace of Mind has been reinstated

“Thank you for waiting. We do have our Peace of Mind cancellation policy available. : Simply put, for new and existing bookings made by January 31, 2022, for any voyage with an embarkation date through and including May 31, 2022, guests are free to cancel up to and including January 31, 2022. However we have not received anything official from NCL, only an email welcoming us to our 1/5/2022 cruise.

Not sure a link has been posted but here it is:

https://www.ncl.com/why-cruise-norwegian/book-with-confidence#freedom-flexibility

The FAQ's have been updated(scroll down) with most recent info.

I would think NCL will eventually provide an easy to find link from their home page.

The 25% discount, no. The 10%, possibly, if it is a coupon rather than a discount. Only NCL can tell you for sure.

It's funny because I posted last month saying they should allow no penalty cancellations due to omicron and got slaughtered on here.  Now everyone is for it

Do you go back to the team you lost to asking for a re-match because you got a new star player on your team now?

A month ago we saw uncertainties, and decided we'd still go on the Dec. 5-22 Getaway TA cruise, and were glad we did.

Things were different a month ago.  CDC's new advisory was yesterday not a month ago.

Depends on the terms of the discount - they would revert to their original terms (unless NCL chooses to extend deadlines).  I would guess that also applies to FCC and Cruise Next certificates.

I just called also and asked to cancel with POM and they would only say that the credit will be reinstated to my account in a couple of weeks but would not give me a cancellation number or email confirming my cancellation and my reservation is still showing on my account which they said is how they are handling it. Is this the information you were given as well? only verbal confirmation? My cruise is in 2 days so i am concerned
