RCI doesn’t require vaccinations?

I was surprised not to see a thread on this, so if there is, please direct me to it.

We are considering Harmony or Oasis, but the rules indicate that unvaxxed guests will have private time at venues. Is this true?

Everyone 12 and older is required to be vaccinated.  Kids 11 and under do not have to be vaccinated.  There are venues set up as vaccinated only where the unvaccinated can't go.  Main dining has a vaxxed dining room, unvaxxed (anyone traveling with an unvaxxed child is considered unvaxxed themselves in this regard).  If someone traveling with an unvaxxed child wants to go ashore, they are required to only take a Royal excursion, they can't go out on their own, not even to just look around the port.

Per Royal Caribbean website (for all cruises leaving from the US): All Royal Caribbean guests age 12 and older must present proof of COVID-19 vaccination, with the final dose of their vaccine administered at least 14 days before sailing. Kids age 5 to 11 who have been vaccinated may present proof of full vaccination and follow the protocols for vaccinated guests.

Not true. Not sure where you read that.

Glad Rockmom explained it perfectly as I was editing to add exactly what she said. 😉

Waving at you from way down I5 in SW WA. But I used to live in Edmonds and Bothell.

CC Harmony review , by Colleen McDaniel.

Its only in Europe. Still a concern.

That is outdated AND a lot of it is talking about sailing from Florida, not Europe.  You really should go to Royal's actual site and click on the Health Protocols from the city/country where you will be sailing from.  And keep in mind, those can be updated at any time.  Currently restrictions are tighter than the article you posted.  Always go to the source--the cruise line's own website--for the most current and correct info.

oh, and I still don't see in there where it says unvaccinated have their 'own venue'.

Here's the link where you can check regularly for current restrictions and policies.

Private hours to existing venues, is what I said.

From the review.

  • Unvaccinated guests are provided specific hours to utilize some facilities like the fitness center; others, like the Casino Royal and Casino Bar, will be unavailable to unvaccinated guests throughout the cruise

I figured out this article was from last summer when they started some sailings.  Extremely outdated.  And yes, back then, if unvaxxed guests (kids) or those that had gotten a very rare exception to sail without being vaccinated, if they wanted to visit the gym, they had small bits of time. It's annoying that it's not dated, but you can tell when the author says 'starting in November' before talking about some upcoming requirements.  Again, and I can't stress this enough, go to the actual website and read what current protocols are for each country--they have changed many, many times since last summer.

Though I know of multiple UnVax Adult's approved to Cruise on Royal as recent as December.

Hmmm...I thought traveling with an under age 5 they could stay onboard at AO and those vaxed adults traveling with them could go ashore (port) without an excursion booked. Cruising end of April Eastern Caribbean.

There are no Royal Caribbean ships cruising in Europe at the moment, so presume this report was from last Summer when vaccinations for under 18s were not recommended in most European countries.  Protocols for this coming summer season in Europe have not been released and will probably be different.

It's poorly worded.  If the child is with them, they have to bubble excursion.  If the child is not with them, they can do what they want.

They do allow a few medical exemptions per cruise for adults, but they are very hard to get.  If granted they follow the same protocols as the unvaxxed kids.  Testing, not allowed in certain venues, and must have a bubble tour to get off the ship in ports.

Does anyone know if you are traveling with a child, does that automatically mean that neither parent can go into the casino (even without that chiild?).  Just reading someone else's post that you were considered not vaccinated if you were traveling with a child who was not.  I guess I was kind of thinking that those who were vaccinated could go into those areas if the non vaccinated person was not with them at the time?

If the child is not with you and you are vaccinated, you can go into the casino. Your thinking is correct. You are considered not vaccinated if the child is physically with you at the time.

That doesn't mean private hours...That just means that there are times when unvaccinated people can use some facilities.  But there's nothing to prevent vaccinated people from using those facilities at the same time.  In the Casino and fitness center on the Harmony, you still had to wear a face mask vaxxed or unvaxxed.

Cruised in November.  There were areas where non-vaxxed were not permitted.  You get a bracelet. Didn't notice any area for unvaxxed only???

According to the blog that shall not be named, Royal released their protocols through April and left it open that vaccine mandates can become even stricter. They did not rule out required boosters and lowering the age of mandatory vaccines for children.

Doesn't look like the vaccine mandates are gong to ease up anytime soon, and even get stricter. I actually called today to inquire about a cruise this fall and the first thing the rep asked me was if everyone in the party was vaccinated.  I took that to mean that they are anticipating vaccine mandates well into the fall.
