On Allure Now And I Got Covid So Now What?

Recommended Posts

Your attitude has been fantastic through this experience (even with that 'soup container' incident....).  Sorry that this has happened but you seem to be dealing with it well.  Good on you for not getting into the back and forth between the usual suspects derailing the thread (although I guess me mentioning it is sort of a derail).  All the best on getting home and feeling better.

This just reaffirms my decision to not cruise until all these protocols go away.  The thought of being in a lesser quality cabin and getting crappy food while paying for that privilege makes me give cruising a hard pass.  Along with the possibility of masks being required again and having to test.  Just not worth it.

You get refunded for any days you spend in that lesser quality cabin. You don't pay for it.

Except I would still be paying my house sitter for those days.  Spending days on end in a cabin with substandard service does not seem like a fun time to me either.

Totally agree! Our family of four will all be wearing an N95 or a KN95 a week prior to our sailing in July.  Fingers crossed.

I'm sailing on another cruise line on the 22nd, leaving for the port on the 20th. Today was my last regular shopping trip - with a KN95 mask - and I'll be limiting public contact to the minimum starting tomorrow. At work I'm mostly alone anyway, and if any shopping is essential, it will be just quick dash into the store.

The room service has been mostly decent until last night. I waited to long to order from the MDR and they were already closed. I ordered a Philly cheese steak sandwich and chicken soup from RS. The sandwich and soup was terrible. The meat was dry and the bread was hard. The soup didn't have much taste. There were some noodles and veggies in it. There was a veggie that was cut in lengths like a french fry but about the same thickness as the noodles. I wasn't even sure what kind of veggie it was. It was undercooked as were the noodles. It was hard for me to tell which were the noodles and which was the veggies.

I think the chicken had been cooked before and not actually in the soup so the soup lacked flavor. I ended up eating some of the meat and some of the soup and I can eat almost anything. There was also something that I think was some sauce. I tasted it twice and still couldn't figure out what it was. It didn't taste bad but was clueless about it. Maybe someone on here knows what it was? The Royal hamburgers I was having before were much better ad tasted pretty good.

I believe they were doing that(tested again mid cruise) in the beginning and there were way to many positives to continue  doing it because at that time there was a percentage that the CDC set,   If above that number The CDC told them they had to end the cruise and head back to port.

I don't remember for sure, but I think that was unvaccinated children that had to test in the middle of the cruise last summer (or could have been an idea that was tossed around but never happened - seems so long ago).

The amount of passengers and crew with Covid (omicron) in Dec/Jan and some of Feb was was higher than anything we are seeing now and everyone was masked, they had separate areas for vax and unvax for dining, no unvax were allowed in the casino,  ports required masks, unvaxxed had to ship only excursions,  etc etc.  Ships were sailing with less than 30 to 50% capacity.      Royal had 3 "plague" ships for the crew.     On land we had over 400,000 cases per day in the US.

unvaxxed kids had to test a day before coming back to the US in November.

Many people I know who have had Covid, either some symptoms or none have not had a temperature.    Almost everyone I know and those on here who reported symptoms mostly have a runny nose and/or headache, maybe a dry cough too, none of which are scary symptoms.

Yep, back when I had the Original Recipe COVID in Nov. 2020, I did not run a fever.  I had typical cold symptoms.  I did have an especially nasty headache, but because of a neurological condition, that is not unusual for me.  I did not get tested because of the lack of a fever.  I found out when I got an antibody test after losing my sense of taste and smell.

Wow, it’s almost like you’re being punished for having Covid 😟 by being served nasty food.

That is not a very common symptom of the current strain.  It's mostly runny nose, dry cough and headache with fatigue.

Kinda looks like a coffee cup from this angle😉

FWIW, Laura orders chicken noodle soup most nights for dinner. She asks for no chicken, no veg, extra noodle

No chicken in chicken noodle soup? Why doesn’t she just order noodles or does she want the noodles in the broth? It does look like a coffee cup, but it was a soup cup.

They could just shut cruising down again. I'm sure that would be far more effective than masking.

Noooooo! I’ll wear my mask again, but please no shut down.

Still a bit up and down with the symptoms - woke up with an astounding headache this morning after coughing all night, but the headache and cough have eased a bit since getting up. I can partially breath through my nose this morning for the first time in a few days, so that's nice ☺️

My main concern at the moment is I'm hungry - we ordered breakfast more than 2 hours ago and it hasn't arrived. I just phoned room service again and apparently whoever tried to deliver has marked it down as no one in the room 🤷‍♀️

Like you, I've found the room service food quality a bit inconsistent. Finding most of the room service menu a bit salty. Have ordered the French onion soup from the main dining room a couple of times and once it had the bread and cheese, and once it was just the broth. Soup at least was hot, pretty much everything else has been cold.

Happy to hear you are starting to feel better. I don’t understand this 2 hour wait for food and not being able to tell the difference between white or wheat toast? I’m wondering if they forgot to get your food ready so they made up the excuse that no one was there? I had a delay and then she tried telling me that I had ordered it later than I was saying. 😡  Maybe they went to the wrong cabin?  My dinner tonight was 2.5 hours. Ugh! More to come on that.

Thanks, I was trying to see the positive in it. Not sure what that was except hopefully not spreading it. Royal has taken the wind out of my sails tonight, but tomorrow will be a new day.

I wonder if the extended wait time for room service is fleet wide? We were on the NV last week and I tried to order room service for breakfast on our sea day. I finally gave up after over an hour of trying to get through. Long hold times and finally a busy signal. Repeat same sequence and same result. Gave up and went to MDR which was another story.

Finally was able to order room service for lunch. Took one hour and forty-five minutes to be delivered. The delivery person apologized and stated that they had a leak in the kitchen that caused the delay. I was told later that they had a crew shortage in that area which caused issues and not a leak. Sounds like they’re down a lot of crew. I have my doubts that we had many in quarantine on our sailing due to the length of the cruise. Crew might have been a different story.

They should be making room service a high priority for those in quarantine.  Even shut it down for those of us who can get out to dine. Fingers crossed that you’re able to debark soon and get back home.

It might be fleet wide if all ships are short on crew which I think they are. Even if they are short they need to revise some things for the time being. Maybe only have the cabin attendants doing room service once a day. Either morning or night. Use them elsewhere to pick up the slack. I’m sure there are other areas where crew could be moved around some. I know that would involve more training, but telling someone to take this tray of food to cabin xxx isn’t rocket science.

I usually have them come in once a day when hubby is with me and sometimes not every day. If I’m by myself it’s even less. 😃  I can get away with using the same towel twice, etc. I’m an easy going person and don’t need all the attention/cleaning. We thankfully get off in 2 days.

Agree 100%. By the way, I just read that the Celebrity Apex is currently placing mask usage back in place. The person posted that the letter stated that they had reached 3% Covid cases. Guess we will hear or read more tomorrow. The poster was short and sweet tonight.

Renee, I hope you’re starting to feel a bit better now. Sorry you had to go through Covid on your cruise. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

Our cat 🐈‍⬛ 🐈‍⬛ sitters are having the exact opposite experience from yours. We’re leaving in the AM for a land vacay. This past morning I got a call from that they both had just tested positive for Covid. They had their phone on speaker, and they both sounded horrible. They said they both felt even worse than they sounded. Fortunately for us, friends stepped up and said they would take care of our boys while we’re gone. They’re going away themselves shortly after we get home, so we’re turning this into a cat sitting exchange. We’ll watch their girls 🐈 🐈‍⬛ while they’re gone and we’ll save on cat sitter fees.

So I’m sad to say things didn’t go very well this evening with dinner. This is a long post, but the short story is it took over 2.5 hours to finally get my dinner.

I ordered dinner around 6:30 knowing it usually took about an hour to arrive. At around 8:00 I called RS to see when my dinner would come. They said soon. Ok no problem. I figured they would be more busy because it was lobster night. Around 8:40 I called again and let it ring around 3 minutes. They never answered so I called GS and explained to Daniella what was going on. I told her I was upset and I would go get food myself if I needed to. She called back a few minutes later and said she had talked to the RS supervisor.

Shortly after that the RS supervisor calls. I explained that it was over 2 hours and I still didn’t have my dinner. I told her I understood that they were short staffed but over 2 hours was unacceptable and I would go find something myself. I was ready to make my jail bird escape. 🕊 🔓(What? No bird cage emoji for my escape?) She accused me of calling in my order about an hour prior to this conversation. I told her that wasn’t true and that maybe when I called the first time to see how much longer it would take was when they actually put in my order. 🤷🏼‍♀️  She had a bit of a attitude with me.

The food arrived about five minutes later without utensils. Nada. After being accused of lying, no utensils and over 2 hours late I had about had it. I called back and it took them a bit to answer. While waiting I decided to see if the food was warm. It wasn’t, not even a little bit. She answers and I tell her I didn’t get any utensils and now I also wanted warm food. If there had been utensils in the beginning then that would’ve been the end of it. I would have eaten what was there.

She also said that it took longer to get the food to covid people because they had to put the white suit on, etc. I didn’t say anything but I know it only takes a few minutes unless there is something else I’m not aware of. Quit making excuses and trying to put the blame on me. She said she didn’t know if she could get more dinner from the MDR at that time because it was after nine. I said I didn’t care where it came from but I wanted a warm lobster dinner. A few minutes later someone shows up with 3 utensils packets.

A few minutes after that she calls back again. Not sure what happened but her attitude completely changed. She said she was having three lobster (I asked for 2 😀) with fixings brought up. She profusely apologized and said that she would send up a lobster and a filet mignon tomorrow evening. I didn’t ask for this or anything else. I didn’t even bring up food for the next day. She also asked what time I wanted breakfast served and what I wanted, same for lunch. She said she would personally see that things were taken care of.

I didn’t contact anyone else. I only spoke to her and Daniella who was very polite and professional. Something obviously changed and I have no idea what it was. Dinner was 2.5 hours late when it came but it was warm. There was enough food for an army, but I was going to be able to eat and I was happy.

Tomorrow aka today is a new day and lobstergate is behind me. Back to keeping myself entertained. 💍 👛 😀

Perhaps someone informed her that there was a live review of quarantine conditions taking place. As many have pointed out, it’s in RCs interest to treat the “honest”travellers well.
Hope you’re keeping well.

Honestly, if they are all short on staff (and I believe that to be true) then they should not be sailing with nearly max capacity.  Pretty simple, really.

Renee, I would have been much more blunt than you.  I have to hand it to you....you handled it much better than I would have.  I definitely WOULD have high-tailed it outta there and foraged for some grub on my own !  Kudos to you !
