Just off the Pride a week ago.  Frankie was asked what the dry dock would entail.  This is what I recall.

  • New paint job
  • General maintenance
  • 2 story nightclub being reduced to 1 level.  The bottom level will be a dedicated chef's table area.
  • They are adding some cabins but I don't recall if it was in the nightclub area or some where else.
  • The most interesting change was another bank of elevators.  Frankie wasn't sure where that was going.

  • New paint job - she desperately needs that
  • General maintenance - See above, while Pride is in pretty decent shape, shes old enough to drink now
  • 2 story nightclub being reduced to 1 level - Chefs table on Pride is already in the lower deck of the night club, so nothing of note...
  • They are adding some cabins... - There are no cabins on deck 2 or 3 so i can't imagine they would add any in place of the club on deck 3
  • The most interesting change was another bank of elevators.  Frankie wasn't sure where that was going - This is the most interesting one. Its common knowledge that Carnival sticks the Spirit ships in places with height restriction in the harbor, so I couldn't see a deck being added, but i *could* see them potentially chopping her in half and adding a section....Keeps the ship the same height and adds more rooms, plus more space for modern amenities on 2, 3, and Lido...Pride seems to get everything major first anyway, so it would be a good test, especially in Baltimore where there is pretty high demand

Oh... and all of the bars were shut down for the first two days.

Actually we were first cruise on Fascination out of San Juan after they had used it for a hotel for hurricane workers then it went to dry dock.  They added Alchemy and it was not open for our cruise along with the bars having limited stock of beer choices.  Even with our bathroom sink looking like there’s was grease on the edges and work being done all over the ship, this was our best cruise ever.  Great ports!

If they decide to cut the Pride in half and add more length, it could only be an 85 foot section if they still want to use the old locks of the Panama canal.

There is no way they could cut the ship in half and add a section in a month's time! And I highly doubt Carnival would put that kind of money into a smaller 21 year old ship even if such a move was feasible. Even adding rooms to a Spirit class would be tough because there is no aft lounge to get rid of. I guess they could get rid of the smaller lounge on deck one for rooms but that is the only good size lounge for the comedy besides the main showroom above it. If the pride still has a casino bar that will be history more than likely.

Like others have said, the Raphiel bar area and the conference room right by it where the art is usually shown are decent size areas that could be changed relatively easily. On the Spirit the conference room/ art lounge is now the Soul Play area.

The chances that Pride gets a new middle section welded in (a la the Windstar conversions) is exactly zero point zero.

Well, after they drop the bomb that the next 4 sailings are cancelled too, then they'll have enough time.

😄

Looking at the Pride map, if they want to sacrifice the jogging/mini golf deck they could quickly add rooms there like they did on the Elation. This would entail adding elevators to the 11th deck.  Frankie has mentioned a new bank of elevators. All speculation here !

They obviously want us speculating, since they're keeping their cards close to their vest.

They could get rid of the Butterflies Lounge to add rooms too. There are already rooms just behind it and that lounge is small for comedy anyway, moving comedy shows to the main theater.

If they were to scrap Butterflies I’d prefer a new dining option there than more rooms 😕

Pride needs a lot of work. Sailed on her from UK to Rome last year. Our feet sunk into the balcony ‘wooden’ floor the first time we stepped onto it. The door to our balcony was warped and would not shut, the wind howled through it for 2;weeks.  The staff tried to make things better but after 50 + cruises worse ship ever. Only saving grace was Ocean Breeze and fellow passengers

That would literally be the worst decision possible for any Spirit Class ship leaving it without a second entertainment venue.  Remember, none of those ships have aft lounges or midship Limelight clubs. Plus the Butterfly Lounge is actually very large for comedy (and other secondary entertainment needs) on a ship that holds a mere 2,134 guests.

agree, no way Butterflies goes. It’s used constantly for tons of stuff, and the Spirit class Punchliner set up is the only one in the fleet where you don’t have to fight crowds relentlessly

Which is exactly why they’ll get rid of it 🙂

Had about a 10 minute conversation with CD Joey last week and he said that the Sky Box was going to be turned into the Heroes Tribute Bar and Lounge.

That sounds fun!

Ok. We've never been on this class of ship. What are the Sky Box and Heroes Tribute Bar? Where are they? I can't see them on the ship plan.

The bar area being referred to is on deck 2 port side closer to the front of ship. The Heros tribute bar is a theme to honor our vets. The sky box is the current name. It is located next to the Red Frog pub.

And I will say that the Tributes bars are much nicer than the Skybox bars.  One of the things that Carnival can do to improve all of them is to increase their sports package reach somewhat.  Even adding Fox Sports to their existing ESPN offerings would get that space better utilized.  It certainly doesn't have to be everything in the world but being able to get a bit of a broader array increases the chances that any particular cruiser might get 'his/her' game on by asking the bartender and have a beer or two.

I think the ripe areas for change on this dry dock are the Raphael lounge and conference room on deck 3 as well as the the restaurant annex on deck 2 near the Alchemy bar. These areas could potentially have the room for some specialized dining. I will bet a dime to a bag of donuts the casino bar is trashed in favor of more gambling also. The Miracle lost her casino bar in Nov 22.
