What a horrible idea.

I never have but I believe you can already gamble outside of the casino at the kiosks or on your device.

Ocean casino

Play for cash anywhere on board

You don’t need to do your gaming in the casino to win big. On MedallionClass® ships with Ocean® Casino, you can wager real money on slots, poker, bingo, roulette and more.

Princess is aware that smokers are using the casino as a smoking room only, but it’s very hard to monitor everyone in the casino, so they just ignore it.

As with any rule, if you see something, say something. Don't be indirectly complicit.

On my b2b Regal cruises earlier this month, I didn't notice clouds of smoke erupting in the casino, and certainly none at the bar. The smokers, on these cruises anyway, were civilized in the casino.

How is smoking in the casino civilized?  Smoke is smoke.  Even a small amount is too much.  The casino should be nonsmoking.  Period.

@Lady Arwen - a smokey casino is what will drive you away?

That is our #1 complaint for sure.  I love to spend my evenings, and my money, in the casino after dinner with a couple of cocktails.  I can accomplish this on Celebrity.  I cannot on Princess.

I get it.  All else being rather equal, you opt for the smoke-free casino experience.  I totally agree.  I stay in Park MGM in Las Vegas for just that reason.  A kind-of silver lining on the Covid mess was that they limited smoking in other land-based casinos for a time...and guess what?  They still made money.  Uggh.

Smoking is in fact allowed in the casino, subject to some restrictions. I thought the smokers followed the rules. Civilized.

I have never seen a definition of civilized that mentioned smoking.

I am a non-smoker and do not mind a non-smoking casino, but it is Princess cruise lines and their rules. Not mine. Civilized.

I like that Celebrity casinos are non-smoking, but don't like their casinos.

I will add that I couldn't find a non-smoky area in the Discovery casino, and so didn't stay long. Were they less civilized? Perhaps. I didn't stay long enough to evaluate. But still, Princess makes the rules and it was my choice to leave. I survived.

I respect your opinion, but Celebrity casinos, IMHO, are far superior.  One day Princess will enter this century and prohibit all indoor smoking.  Time will tell.

All casinos in Canada are all nonsmoking indoors, including the adjacent hotels.  It is wonderful!

Perhaps Princess is banking on the fact that smokers have poor impulse control and banning smoking would cut into the casino's profits.

But banning smoking in the ship's casinos could not only bring in non-smokers but would also keep actively playing non-smokers from leaving early.

Many times, I have had to walk out of the casino due to feeling sick from the smoke.  I wear a mask and it reeks so bad that I have to throw it out.

They could always experiment with banning smoking in the casino on one ship and see if it has any bearing on profits.

Princess has experimented with having non-smoking nights in the casino. It didn’t stick.

You are too kind, my friend.  You are one of the reasons I visit these boards every day!  There is still a lot I enjoy with Princess, like some really nice itineraries, mini suites, the IC, the packages (which are the best and least expensive of any line) and the crew, of course.  So, Princess will always have a place in my heart.  If they would just fix the darn smoking policy!

Smoking indoors isn't allowed on cruise ships in Australian waters which we welcomed on our Coral Princess cruise.  On the Coral the casino is located contiguous (with no barriers) to the International Cafe.  I can't imagine what siting in the cafe is like when the ship is sailing other itineraries.

We sailed the Coral around So America and the smoke through the one entrance of the casino leading into the IC wasn’t bad in the morning and early afternoon, but we didn’t go to the IC at night.

So not sure if it was bad at night?

I tried to do a live chat when this casino info was announced to ask how they were going to prevent the awful smoke stink from invading the whole piazza and floors above but I was #40 in line to talk to them and gave up waiting. I had given my email address but haven't received any response either.

I thought so, as well.  It's a striking contrast as of how clean and sparkly Celebrity casinos are to me vs. the dirty and dingy feel of the Princess casinos.    I have to shower after a night in Princess casinos because I feel cruddy.

There is a Diamond casino event coming up for high rollers that includes a dinner with Princess executives.  Maybe some of the participants could bring up this issue with them face to face.
