When I first saw the original quote, I was thinking about magazines somewhat spicier than the Enquirer - ones where reading the articles was optional and mostly not the primary purpose.

Yes, I'm actually 12. 🙃

We could swap out Zitsky's Kindle for one of those spicier magazines.  The surprised look when Zitsky comes back.  Priceless. 🤣

My husband lost his iPhone on our last cruise in November.  He didn't miss it for about 30 minutes.  He thinks he left it on a slot machine in the casino.  He went down to Guest Relations, and there it was!  He had to unlock it in front of them to show it was his.  He later told me that also in the "box" was a huge purse!  Now how could anyone loose a huge purse?  LOL

Please don’t embarrass me.  I don’t want my husband to see my Playgirl collection.  😭

My MIL left her purse next to a slot machine and didn't realize it until halfway through dinner. We went to the casino and it wasn't there. Went to the cashier and was told no-one turned anything in. Went to guest relations and they said not there, but they would check around. We went back to the cabin and there was a phone message asking her to call and ask for a specific person at guest relations. Sure enough it was located. Someone brought it to the cabin and waited for her to look through the bag to be sure everything was there. Quite a relief.

the market for printed anything is really the computer illiterate who can't operate an iPhone or most electronic devices. The target market of ethos his generally "older". who never really grew up with an electronic device of any sort

I am definitely in the “older” category, but still work full time as an attorney. I am computer literate, but it’s easier to research printed code/statute books (even though I do a computer search to find my starting place). I like being able to browse surrounding code sections by flipping pages back and forth. On the other hand, I find it much easier to research case law digitally using Westlaw.
I also prefer printed travel books (Fodor’s, Lonely Planet, etc.). I can tear out the pages I want to take on the trip.

You can do the same with digital versions of these travel books.

My thought is why carry around a huge purse?  I think the same when I see guys carrying around a wallet..who needs all that on a cruise ship? I have seen folks with car keys..LOL

my wallet and keys hit the safe immediately..

Sometimes  there are little gems and nuggets in  footnotes of printed material. Digital a good start but not always better!   Nice to have both options..

They’re for all the pages I rip out of magazines.  🙂

It is a lot easier to carry one iPad instead of 10 magazines.  But you don’t need to recharge paper.

Well, this is true.  Compared to an iPad, paper is easier to recycle too!

I don't risk it anymore after someone tried to steal my old fungus infested deck shoes on RCL a few years ago. My only pair of shoes, I would have been pretty sour if I didn't catch the guy.

Now I have a bag with a combo lock with a wire to connect to a piece of furniture etc for my things when I am taking a dip.

Agree that only real cops should be allowed to use derisive tone and accusations! 🤣

Seriously though, in 30+ cruises, we've recovered everything we've ever lost onboard cruise ships of all lines: iPhones, electronics, high end sunglasses, hats, full backpacks, etc. The only thing we've ever actually been separated from was a stainless steel straw on Carnival (which only offers horrific candy straws instead of plastic or biodegradable options). Left it in a blender drink at a bar, and it vanished into the bowels of the galley, never to be seen again.

real cops are trained to conduct inquiries in a  professional manner...not like a tv show

Remember, theft is opportunity. Studies have shown that when something is left unattended, whether it’s a purse, a phone, a camera, etc., people that normally wouldn’t steal, may just steal if they think they can get away with it. We have never left anything of value laying out in our cabin. We always lock everything in the safe or in our Delsey zipperless suitcase. As far as the pool or beach, I use a Flexsafe by Aquavault bag that attaches to a chair if we are taking items with us that need securing. We have been on our way out of our cabin (Royal) when we see cabin doors wide open, but no cabin steward in sight. That’s a bit concerning to me.😕

Some people will steal for the thrill. They actually have no use for the item they've taken. Happend to me twice on a Princess cruise ship.

I may be naive, but if you steal a locked iPhone or iPad would someone else be able to use it?  I’m thinking not.

Yes, the device could be used as don't most people use the same passcode that I use?   1-2-3-4.   Calls could be to a pizza delivery service 🍕, Amazon  🚘, etc.

I doubt there's much theft aboard the cruise ships. But most theft is opportunistic, so leaving anything of value in a public idea isn't a particularly good idea IMHO.

The question is, would staff or passengers notice someone lifting up towels and opening bags to see what’s inside?  I don’t leave cellphones sitting on top of my towel while I go to the hot tub.

Yes we use Flexsafe too on cruise excursions.  Never used it on the ship and no reason to really.  I know it only takes one dishonest person but never had a problem on any Celebrity cruise.  Never had anything missing from my cabin.  Now I have absent-minded moments and have left reading glasses, phones, seapass cards, etc on dining tables or at bars on the ship.  But the crew or honest passengers have always turned them in or they have been there when I go back.
