Good morning.  Happy Friday.

We've got a snow squall warning.  Yesterday we got about 15cm (6in) of snow in 4 hours, then it stopped.  But it's back again today with another 10cm forecast for us.  The snowblower will get a work out.

I hope I don't know any grouches today.  I'll have to google Elizabeth Peratrovich.  A fish fry sounds good.

The quote is how I grew up, and how I serve dinner.

The meal sounds interesting.  Not sure about the drink or the wine.

I've never been to today's port.

Prayers for our world.

Have a great day.  Stay safe.

Good morning friends!  Today is a bit warmer at 45F and we will see mostly cloudy skies and a high of 66.  DH says we are going to trim back the ornamental grasses at the top of the backyard slope this afternoon.  Not looking forward to that job!  My aching back!

Thank you Jacqui @kazu and Roy @rafinmd for posting the Daily and Fleet Report as well as the fleet location maps for Rich @richwmn.  Today I will try to do a favor for a grouch and I'm not mentioning names!  I'll honor Alaska native Elizabeth Peratrovich for her work in gaining equal rights for Native Americans.  Friday Fish Fry Day reminds me of growing up and Mom taking us to our local fish fry on Friday nights at a nearby park.  That Buddy Hackett was such a funny guy and I laughed at his quote.  Looking forward to seeing the chicken ragout recipes.  I have no idea what a Vivian is and say no thanks to the Malbec.  Lots going on this day in history from Egypt to Antarctica.  Thanks Eva @superoma, Paul @kochleffel, and Ann/Laura @cat shepard for the reports today.

Prayers  for my DB and DGD, friends Scott and Bob and their caregiver spouses.  Also the many friends here on the Daily who are suffering pain, going through procedures, recovering from their past medical procedures, worried, stressed and feeling loss in their lives.  I pray each day for improvement in your lives.  Also praying for Israel and Ukraine, the hostages still held and our military in the region in danger each day and night.🙏  Cheers to those celebrating happy events and cruises! 🎂 Welcome home Katherine @Lady Hudson and Bon Voyage @Mr. Boston🚢  Thanks Vanessa @JazzyV for posting the Care and Celebration lists for us.  Hope you got some sleep and are in less pain than usual.  Good luck with your home project!

The port today is another first time one, Rockland, Maine.  I haven't been there before and I have no idea yet if Lenda @Quartzsite Cruiser has so she can let us know.  No links to post!  If you have photos of Rockland please feel free to share with us.

Hope you all have a great Friday!  Stay safe and keep well!

Happy Friday. Thanks for the Daily and Fleet reports.

More snow predicted for tomorrow. 1 to 4 inches maybe. I am so over the snow. I want spring! So does Fancy.

Nothing planned today except the chiropractor and paperwork all day.

Bon Voyage @Mr. Boston

Thinking of all on the care list.

Celebrating with all who are celebrating.

Have a safe and healthy day.

Happy TGIF everyone.  Thanks Rich, Roy, Vanessa, Ann, Paul & Eva for your ongoing contributions.

Good collection of days.  The only grouch in the house is me - Maybe Ivan can do me a favour?  LOL.  Friday is a fish day for a number of people.  I will especially celebrate Elizabeth Peratrovich Day.  For those who may not be familiar with her - She was a native woman activist & a Tlingit civil rights hero.    She served as the Grand President of the Alaska Native Sisterhood who worked for equality  on behalf of Alaska Natives.

IMG_2123.thumb.jpeg.d331580d3f2b40d0d845ff7e4d72285e.jpeg

LOL  on today’s quote.  It was so true when I was growing up, at least.  Another cold one with a bit of snow - nothing serious - at least, not for us.

I have a clean, soft dog again and he has clean toys.  The little light came on in my feeble brain and I washed all his toys while he was at the groomers.  That way, I didn’t have an upset dog when some of his toys disappeared.  😂.

Workers are due back here this morning so I had better get moving and prepped for them.  Prayers for those on the Care list, those suffering losses, grief, pain, health problems, worries & those that need them. 🙏 Cheers to those celebrating and cruising 🥂

Good Morning, thanks for today’s daily fleet report.  The overnight snow came and it was just another dusting that mostly stuck just on the grass.  Today’s meal suggestion sounds good to me, I have no idea what we are doing for dinner.

Overnight I received our 30 day countdown, guess it’s time to check in.

I hope everyone has a good day today.

Yes, you are correct and I agree it is a beautiful building and Curacao is one of our favorite islands! 🙂

Thank you for today’s FR & D, Jacqui! Roy thank you for taking on the maps!

Yesterday’s beach clean was wild. My 2 mile swatch delivered 63 bags of trash. The rough surf of the past few weeks has churned up so much trash.  So many people still don’t cut the plastic six pack holders. I guess I should be happy that none of the ones I saw yesterday had trapped a creature.

Vanessa, thank you for keeping up with us. Praying that this time next week, you will have enough relief from pain that you can start catching up on your sleep.

Gym, Bindi walks, chores, taking Bindi to her resort & packing. That will keep me busy.

Prayers for all who need our support. Those suffering from pain, trauma, and debilitating conditions or grieving the loss of a loved one. The caretakers.

Terry, thinking of you & Tana.

Cheers to all who are celebrating! @Mr. Boston Bon Voyage!

May we each find a reason to smile today.

Neyen 2019 Espíritu de Apalta Malbec (Apalta)
This Chilean Malbec has lots of fans in spite of its price tag. Perhaps not quite as bold as some, but the tasting notes make me want a taste. A decent number of distributors. Online prices start at $139.99.

Distributor notes

Ripe, foresty aromas of cassis, sous bois and root beer are classy and elegant. While this is saturated on the palate, it isn’t outright syrupy or fat. A ripe berry fruit flavor profile includes spice notes and a hint of minty green, while chocolate mint and spice flavors take over on a lush and saturated palate. Hailing from a hot year, this is a delicious and well-balanced fruit bomb to drink from 2024.

Happy Friday!  (I have to find an elevator to make sure it’s really Friday!). We’re having a wonderful time on Nieuw Statendam, everything has been great😃. A bit breezy today with more motion on the ocean, but we’re relaxing at the midship pool.  I haven’t read much this week, but prayers and cheers for all. k

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  I'd do a grouch a favor, but it's my friend's husband, so I'll leave that up to her.  Great respect for Elizabeth Peratovich and all she did for the advancement of civil rights.  Growing up almost every Friday was fish Friday, sometimes salmon sandwiches, sometimes fish & chips.

I just learned from the news channel that anti-corruption activist and opposition leader Alexei Navalny has died in jail.  Only recently he was seen on television laughing and joking, even though he'd been relocated to the most harsh of prisons.  You know what that means . . . . 😠

It's back to cold weather for us for a couple of days, this morning we're looking at -24C and a wind chill of -36C.  Yesterday when I went out for groceries, I put on my down filled jacket instead of the lighter leather one and it seems I'll be doing the same today, including a scarf to keep out the wind.  Never fear, tomorrow we could be looking at temperatures near 0.

@Mr. BostonBon Voyage - have a wonderful cruise!

Last night I dreamed that DH bought another guitar - like he needed another one.  He said he bought it to deal with the stress of his poor health.  I replied that I, too, was stressed and felt that perhaps I needed a nice Hermes scarf to relieve mine.  Not sure what happened after that.  LOL

I'm close to finishing another blanket and late last evening one of the people from the Angel Blankets group posted that Walmart had put a lot of acrylic yarn on sale for $3 per skein, so I'm heading over there this morning to see what I can pick up.

I'm not sure what a Vivian is, so will wait to see what's in it.  I know I'd like the wine, as a malbec is my go-to whenever we're on a BHB, but today's selection is WAY out of my budget!  I've had beef ragout, but never chicken - I'm sure it would be tasty, but of course it's Friday night pizza night here, so we'll check out the online menus to see what looks good.  Perhaps we'll order a chicken bacon ranch pizza to enjoy at the kitchen table tonight.   And wine.

Prayers for everyone who is in need, in pain, in grief, and needing a hug.  Cheers to all with celebrations.

Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️

No fish frying in this house - that would make me grouchy since I don’t eat it and surely don’t want the smell here. 😒 Elizabeth Peratrovich did a lot for AK and deserves her day.

My house had the same menu as Mr Hackett.

The meal sounds good, maybe the drink, yes to the wine, not been to the port.

A varied assortment of important days in history.

No PT today - surgeon wrote a new script at Wednesday's appointment and they have to get a new approval. The new one adds strength training for both shoulders so it should be different when I

go back.

Could not sleep last night, so I hope work is light today since I'm running on about 2 hours sleep. Ooh - maybe I AM the Grouch today and someone will do me a favor. 🤔

Currently 61° headed to 70° with sun next week. Wednesday is supposed to be 82°!! 82°? It's February for Pete's sake.

Bon Voyage @Mr. Boston

Prayers and positive thoughts for all.

I forgot to mention that for the first time ever, I saw an advertisement on the PE webcam before I was able to view the port - it was for Holland America Lines, so I didn't mind it at all, I'm just glad HAL is supporting the PTZ webcam!

And if you take a look at the Key West webcam, you'll see the Zaandam in port.

for some reason this morning I can’t insert the pictures under the proper website but they are in order at the end.

Chicken ragout, three different recipes. If you are short on time you could simply use a good cream of mushroom soup for the base.

This first one claims to be authentic

And here a Cajun take on ragout

And one with a mushroom based cream sauce

We try to buy drinks in cartons, I always cut the plastic ringers when we get them. Leave no rings - everything must have an opening. Thanks for the very important reminder and your dedication to cleaning the beaches.

Vivian

Or Vivians, because there are two different cocktails called Vivian and the sources I'd consider definitive, such as Difford's, don't know about any such drink.

I'll start with the one that seems more likely, because it's made with ingredients a well-stocked bar would have. St-Germain is the leading, perhaps only, brand of elderflower liqueur.

vivian-1.jpg.63451dfda95d271db3337006e1cdbfa4.jpg

2 dashes angostura bitters
.25 oz simple syrup
¾ oz elderflower liqueur
2 oz bourbon whiskey

orange twist (optional)

In a mixing glass with ice cubes pour in the bourbon whiskey, elderflower liqueur, simple syrup, and Angostura bitters.
Stir gently for about 20-30 seconds to thoroughly chill and dilute the cocktail.
Strain the mixture into a chilled martini or rock glass. Express the oils from an orange twist over the cocktail by giving it a gentle twist over the surface, then garnish (optional).

The second requires Lychee Reàl, a puree of lychee fruit.

yPOuecUcl4Ww3DY0rwDM-1.png.47b2ac19e45d346309bb787a0e774fbe.png

0.5 oz Lychee Reàl

1.5 oz Gin

1 Strawberry, muddled
3 edible rose petals (for garnish)

Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass filled with ice.

Shake and strain into a chilled coupe glass.

Good morning on our way to Falmouth, Jamaica.  The seas have quieted a lot since overnight.  Thanks Jacquie and Roy for the fleet and daily reports and maps.

Thanks @JazzyVfor the cares and celebrations reports.  Prayers for everyone needing them and the people of Ukraine.

We had our complimentary dinner at Tamarind and since it was previously complimentary we were able to choose a wine off the wine list.  We enjoyed a L'Ecole Chardonnay with our meal.  We had starters from Nami Sushi, Miso soup, sushi platter and soft shell crab.  Mains were lamb chops and Szechuan shrimp.  On this ship I recommend ordering the shrimp mild and if needed add more heat yourself.  I had no intention of eating the fried rice but I ate the whole serving so I could eat my shrimp.  The restaurant was very busy.  Each group of passengers is different and it seems this group is well aware of how good Tamarind can be.  Everything about this ship is crowded.  There is a VIP casino event and getting a seat in the casino is near impossible, want a drink  better have one in your hand from the bar before finding one's seat.  Lido is a zoo.  Gratefully we spotted a friend walking through yesterday so we could join a table without a long time through the Lido.

A question for my Daily friends - remember, I'm a landlocked person from the "frozen tundra".  I often see people referring to soft shelled crabs; my question is do you eat the shell?  If they're soft shelled, is it difficult to remove the meat?  Crazy things my mind does on an early Friday morning.
