Repeating Itineraries....

Our first cruise in 2014 was eastern carribean and went to St. Thomas, San Juan, Grand Turk & Princess Cays (it was on Princess).

We are doing a Western Caribbean cruise on RCCL in February that will be all different ports.

However, for our December 2018 cruise, Celebrity had the best pricing/dates. It is an Eastern Caribbean with Amalie-St. Thomas, San Juan, Nassau Bahamas and Dominican Republic. We feel like 3 of these ports are repeats. We loved San Juan so no problem with that. When we went to St. Thomas we actually went over to St. John so wondering if that is different enough?

Anyone ever repeat ports? What do you do if it's a port you've been to?

-- 2 X "Western Caribbean" cruises on NCL and Costa.

-- 3 X "California Coastal" cruises on Princess.

-- 2 X "San Francisco-Alaska Roundtrip" cruises on Princess.

-- 2 X "Los Angeles-Hawaii Roundtrip" cruises on Princess.

Everybody has different reasons for enjoying cruising. In the case of my wife and I we just enjoy the shipboard experience and being at sea. The itinerarary is not terribly important to us. OK, that last sentence may require some modification. The fact of the matter is that both of us have tired of dealing with airlines and airports. So, we have, in fact, come to prefer roundtrip itineraries out of the local port.

Whatever cruise you take, have a great time.

We've duplicated itineraries several times. With the exception of a few, we enjoy repeating most ports since there's usually many different things to do.

If we went to a beach last time, we may try to see a bit more of the island/port the next time. Sometimes we had so much fun the first time we do the exact same thing every time we're in that port.

We've done a number of T/A's --- same old ocean every time, still enjoyable. Nassau, on the other hand, got very tired very quickly, as did Jamaica. So, it's not simply repeating - it's what you are repeating.

Think of the Captains.. See the world! they said, It will be fun! they said.

Then, after working yourself up for years and years, you're finally a real Master on Carnival Paradise!

Doing Tampa - Cozumel -Tampa, alternating with Tampa - Grand Cayman - Cozumel - Tampa for 6 months at a time. http://crew-center.com/sites/default/files/ship/carnival-paradise-itinerary/carnival-paradise-itinerary-35410.pdf

Yes --- but they are paid to do it. How about the repeaters who PAY to sail those routes?

We've often repeated a port. Sometimes we take an excursion or a taxi to see something new to us, sometimes we browse shops in port area, sometimes we simply stay aboard the ship and have a relaxing day.

We have been to many ports several times. Hard not to repeat a few after 8 TA's, a few Med and Baltic cruises and multiple Canadian and Carib cruises. We just find something different to do in those ports or we go back to a place we really enjoyed the last time we were there. If it's a port we don't like (Jamaica, Nassau, Freeport etc) we stay on the ship. Staying on the ship in and of itself is a fun experience. No crowds to trip over, pool is empty, restaurants have no lines and best of all because the ship is empty you can just wander around the decks and really enjoy the beauty and style of the ship itself. :)

We've repeated lots of ports, especially in the Caribbean, where we normally do one cruise a year, because it is convenient and cheap (compared to more exotic cruises) and reliably warm. We usually manage to find at least one port we haven't been to, but that is getting harder.

Some places, like St. Thomas, we have been to many, many times. If we have been there a lot we either look for a different tour or maybe just walk around the town or to a nearby beach or attraction. So far we have never just stayed on the ship, but it could happen.

I think there are many things to do inch port, and one of the few problems I have with cruising is that you can only do one thing when you are in port due to time. We just spent 21 days on the Royal Princess in the Mediterranean. I loved the fact that we repeated a few of the ports because we got to do more than one thing. Some places we took another tour, and others we just explored on our own.

Different stages of life, different reasons for where/when/how you go. A year ago, we wanted some new ports and lots of variety, so did British Isles, parts of Europe, Iceland, ending in New York. This year, to mark the end of a medical crisis, we want total relaxation, no complicated decisions, no stress, so we're doing Vancouver round-trip Hawaii - all ports we've been to many times and still love. In most ports we'll revisit some of our favorite spots, and we may manage to find something new in one or two.

We have been cruising for 30+ years so have seen/been to just about every port-except Trinidad & Tobago. In some ports we don't bother to get off the ship at all- Nassau & Jamaica. You can always find something different to do or something you want to do again in every port.

We have also been to ports no ship seems to go to anymore. Those are Isla Margarita where they sell pearls for $10 and The San Blas islands off Panama where the men dive for quarters thrown off the ship. We'd go back to these ports in a minute!

We have been to most Caribbean ports multiple times. We try and find a cruise with one port we have not been too but it is getting hard. However sometimes the second or third time you visit a port it is sometimes better because you know what you want to do. Many times you visit a port the first time you see or hear from another passenger about an experience and you think next time we come we will try that

There are a lot of benefits to repeating itineraries especially if you enjoy them.

You can revisit places that you liked and also do other things for the first time.

The reality is that often you can't see it all the first time.

I can't remember how many times we've been to St. Thomas. It's probably 10 or 12. Only once did we choose not to do anything other than get off the ship briefly. That's a cruise where we arrived several hours late but still sailed away at the scheduled time.

If our ship stops in Jamaica, we'll stay on. The first time was enough for me. We've also stayed on the ship or just gotten off for the shops at the port in Cozumel and Costa Rica and Nassau.

If DH would agree to it, we'd go to Alaska every year. We've been there three times so far. I was thinking this would be the year to go back, but we're sailing on a Princess cruise around the British isles in 12 days because of a great price on the cruise and the airfare. It's our first time taking a cruise away from North America.

Agree about Nassau! Anytime the ship stops here we stay onboard and enjoy a less crowded day onboard!

If you cruise long enough... you will repeat ports... we love repeating ports because then we have an idea of what to expect and can plan to do something different then we did last time... good way to see more in each port.
