Accommodation Recommendations for Pre-Embarkation Night in New Orleans

Recommended Posts

Hello,

We are booked on the Breakaway over Thanksgiving and were considering going a day early to enjoy the city of New Orleans. Having never stayed in New Orleans, I'm looking for recommendations for accommodations closely situated to both the pier and the French Quarter.

Thank you!!

Last year we stayed at the Embassy Suites on Julia St, which we really enjoyed. We had 2 pre-cruise nights there. We were able to walk to the French Quarter to do some sightseeing the day before embarkation, probably a 15-20 min walk. It is about a block from the cruise terminal (we walked!), so we were able to see the ship from our balcony on embarkation day! The included breakfast was also quite good. We would definitely stay again for another cruise out of New Orleans!

I agree. We are on the Feb.7 cruise on Breakaway and will be at the Embassy Suites. Have stayed there three other times. Walk to French Quarter, Harrah's, and several great restaurants. Half way between Embassy and cruise port is a restaurant called Mulates. Great original New Orleans Cajun & Creole food.

Looks like others have the recommendations for where to stay covered. If you do yourself one favor while in New Orleans, let it be dinner at K-Pauls and cocktails at Arnaud's French 75 or Compere Lapin. Yum.

Just got home from NOLA. I stayed at the DoubleTree on Canal street. Walked 4 blocks to the convention center (a block from pier) or 4 blocks the other way to Bourbon street. Great location, great price, restaurant and coffee shop as well as good customer service.

We're sailing out of NOLA shortly after Thanksgiving this year and hotel prices were CRAZY high! We're going to stay at a B&B called Elysian Fields. Location is great. An awesome breakfast is included. Rates are reasonable and they have amazing reviews on TripAdvisor...

Astor Crown plaza is n the corner of Canal and Bourbon. Very reasonable. Nice hotel. You would need to catch a cab to the cruise terminal. If you aren’t concerned about cost, Hotel Monteleone, on Royal St, is beautiful, and their Carosel Bar is awesome!

Also, the Royal Sonesta on Bourbon is a great hotel also. As a previous poster

Stated, if you are overlooking the street, it’s noisy all night long. Get an interior room, or better, a room overlooking he pool! NO is a great city! Acme Oyster Bar, Felix’ oyster place, central Grocery for muffulettas, GW Fins for higher end amazing food.

I love the French Market Inn! Stayed there last May with my partner and it was a great location. Close to everything but not right in the fray, so no night noise. Our room faced the street and we had no issues with noise from outside. It's also right on the river, maybe 5 blocks from the port?

As mentioned above, we always stay at Harrah's before and after cruise. If you have any status with Caesars/Harrah's casinos in another city would suggest you call and check on staying at this beautiful hotel. They might discount or 'comp' you a room. The hotel is across the street from the casino.

There are streetcar stops close to this hotel that can take you to the French Quarter, Garden District or other areas for easy touring of the area.

Also, from the Harrah's hotel we find it an easy walk over to the port with our rolling luggage.

We had stayed at the Drury Inn and Suites when we did a few pre-cruise days in NOLA. Great location - walked right to where all the action was. Easy cab ride to pier. Good (included) breakfast and cocktail hour with munchies.

also, whatever you do, get yourself over to Cafe Dumond for coffee and beignets!!!!! we went early (7am) and lines were already forming but we had no real wait to speak of and got a table. so.good. it was also fun walking Bourbon at that hour as there was still music coming from a few establishments and a few all night partiers who were still going. it was also amazing to see public works in action relative to how they wash down teh streets every morning.

We always stay at the Hampton Inn across the street from the Convention Center its a short walk to the NCL baggage handlers just 700-900ft from the hotel, I beleive the street is Julia street that we walk to get there no waiting in a shuttle or Taxi for an hour just to go around the block.

The Hyatt and Marriot Convention Center hotels are even a closer walk to the Ship.

We also have walked to and from Burbon st. from the Hampton its around a 30 minute walk.

You can also just take an Uber its around $10-$15 there and the same back.

We like the Hilton or Harrahs. Right near the street car line. Easy walking distance to the French Quarter (without being in the craziness). Short walk to the back gate of the cruise ship terminal (which you can not use) for some pre-cruise photos.

I will second the recommendations on Harrah's. We are lucky to get both free rooms and parking for our Diamond status. If you get a chance, go to the French Market to the Gazebo Cafe, an outdoor place, and order a Mud Slide. Decadent.
