LIVE from the CORAL PRINCESS - Oct. 28th to Nov. 11th - LA to FLL thru the Canal

When I was onboard, they had:

poster board in a variety of colors

markers

paints

glitter glue

glue and glue sticks

construction paper

scissors

stickers with the word PANAMA on it

foamy letters

They want you to include "Panama' in your poster somehow.

On the day you go through the canal, the videographers will go ashore and take pictures of you standing out on the side of the ship (we stayed on our balcony but you could be on an open deck as well). Then they had some of the employees judge which ones they liked best. I do not remember what the other prizes were because I was happy with the DVD!

Be creative. Have fun!!

When we were on the Coral two years ago they sold the DVDs in advance.

Since you charged them to your shipboard account they had a list of which cabins had purchased them and only filmed those cabins! :(

They must have planned in advance where to film because the footage was played around the ship afterwards and it was pretty obvious when they panned one area and then skipped to a different area instead of scanning the whole ship.

I wanted to see how it came out before I bought it but when we weren't on it we didn't. (We were waving a large, colorful poster that I had made the whole time)

Pia,

Go see the singer tonight , Bobby Brooks Wilson. I believe he is Jackie Wilson's son. We met him at one of the ports getting off a ship, he was on a different ship than us but we shared a shuttle to the airport with him. Lots of personality so I know the show will be good.

So glad you enjoyed On The Bayou. Princess did it right with that show.

Lew was pulled up on the stage at the end of the show and left the theatre with the cast. Don't know if they still do that. The show we saw was 45 minutes.

Gloria:D

Gloria,

They do still pull people out of the audience at the end of On The Bayou. I got selected and ended up slipping and falling on my rear. So embarrassing!! I didn't want to go......the dancer was way too persistent. What happened to Lew???!?!? Doesn't sound good and I am sorry to hear that happened.

Pia, if you know anyone who went to it---how did they do Rocky Horror Picture Show in the theatre? Without props, comments, etc it would be pretty boring, and with them it makes such a mess.

That movie has some nostalgia for me, so I am quite curious how they do it on Princess. Thanks!

We are also planning a 15-day Princess Panama Canal trip but the other direction. Looking forward to your blog and experiences onboard. My partner and I were just on Princess for the first time....Sapphire Princess Anchorage to Vancouver and rate our experience 5+ based on CC criteria. Wondering about the mini-suites in the "bump out" corners....less privacy but better viewing?

And yet another day passes; quietly and quickly. Don’t know where the hours go, but they sure do go. Did gym, had breakfast, went to port lecture and stock lecture. Then it was time for another meal. A small one. Since it was too hot/sunny to sit on our balcony, we decided to go to the art auction. Haven’t done this in a long, long time. Very boring. Nobody bought anything. They did sell 3 pieces at $190 each, but even if I were in a buying mode I didn’t see anything worthwhile. Anyhow, I have no empty walls, nor do I need to replace anything at the present time. Visited the casino for about 15 minutes and donated some miniscule amount to the slots. Tables totally empty.

Back in the cabin now thinking about starting wine time a bit early. Sun has left our balcony and Mike is out there reading. Will join him shortly. Clocks go forward tonight, so here comes our first loss of sleep. Whenever we go ahead gym is usually empty the next morning. We’ll see.

Gloria et al: Nobody was pulled from the audience. I suppose this is the part that has been abbreviated.

Tequila: I don't know anyone who went to Rocky Horror.

Gloria again: We're passing on Bobby. Will see comedian.

Bye until tomorrow. Adios amigos.

BILL: I know nothing about Air Tran; where it does or doesn’t fly. Nor do I care. I was just delivering information written on the Princess information sheet, and I don’t think it was necessary for you to have red highlighted me with a correction.

The correction was to what Princess said, nothing about what you said which I always know to be 100% accurate.

The gym was more crowded this morning; had to wait a while. There is no organization here. Unlike other ships that set 20 or 30 minutes max for equipment when people are waiting, this one has none. I asked about it and was told they could stay on forever if they desired.
Selfishly for me, but that is a good thing. I leave on the Star Monday for a 15 day Hawaiian cruise. I am in the last month of training for a marathon in December. I will need up to two hours on the treadmill at least 3 times a week. When we were on the Star in October they had the 20 minute signs posted, but fortunately nobody complained. Actually, a 20 minute limit isn't worth the trouble for most people.

Pia,

Have you heard any scuttle-butt on what may be done during dry dock to the Coral? We are on board for the second cruise after dry dock. Thanks for any info you can provide.

Charlie

I was on the cruise before Pia's. I talked to one of the head waiters and he told me they are planning major work to Horizon Court......removing the bar and dance floor and replacing many of the windows. I am sure there is more being done!!

The horizon court has a dance floor?

Yes, on the Island/Coral there is a wooden "dance floor" next to the bar. I believe there is a piano there too... never saw it used for dancing, but that's where they would put the once-a-cruise dessert buffet.

Happy Friday at sea, which appears to be the beginning of another hot day. From what I understand, nothing compared to what we are to anticipate in Nicaragua tomorrow. Hey, I can handle it. We bounced around quite a bit last night, mainly during showtime. Also, as predicted, the time change made the gym quite empty this morning.

Last night we made it to both shows; Bobby Brooks Wilson the singer, and Rodney Johnson the comedian. Sorry Gloria, but I definitely do not agree with your endorsement of Mr.Wilson. We stayed for 3 ½ songs; first two which were awful. Third was Tutti Frutti which was fine, so we thought he was getting better. Uh uh. So we went to the theater an hour early, got good seats, read our book s and waited to see Rodney. Worth the wait; very enjoyable.

So you think yesterday’s schedule was a dud? Worse today. The morning has a Cartagena presention by Bill Keene. That’s it. Afternoon has Alan Schreiber talking about “Protect your Assets for you and your Heirs.” Heck. We’re taking cruises with our assets right now. OK. Some of you are grinning. :D There’s a 3:00 PM movie The Magic of Belle Isle (don’t know anything about it so will probably see it) and on MUTS, Meet Me in St. Louis.

Tonight’s entertainment is my all time favorite production show “Motor City.” Not! Universe has a ventriloquist (Don Bryan) and MUTS is showing The Avengers (2012). We like the dummy, so Noseworthy (that’s his name), you got us!

Responses:

1. No clue even when they are dry docking. What should be changed is management ;or lack of it in HC.

2. Yes, there is a piano up there.

3. I’m sort of trivia’d out. Especially since I already won their assortment on last cruise and this cruise. They have nothing to give other than lanyards, water bottles and clips. Maybe a pen too. I have tried to give away my stuff and nobody wants it. Also, trivia has been conflicting with other things. Not always at the same time.

See you later.

Hi Pia:

Appreciate your updates as we'll be doing this itinerary in a few weeks. Looking forward to hearing about the ports in Nic and CR.

I'm a bit concerned about filling our sea days... financial lectures, muts, and trivia are NOT our thing. Looks like we'll be doing a LOT of reading. :o

Hey Pia,

Good to finally catch up with you. Hope you and Mike have had great time. Thanks to Gloria, we got our air today, $514 non stop from Miami to BCN. Flying out of Miami on 9/24. That price was the best we've ever gotten, the flights are on American. Have you looked yet?

Chat soon.

It’s a little past 5, we’ve just come from the movie and I’m sitting here enjoying a glass of wine. Mike is on the balcony eating cashews; sans wine. This was a very nice movie; very sweet and rated PG. The Magic of Belle Isle. I recommend it.

I had a BOGO coupon from the zillion dollar off coupon book, so decided to enter the slot tournament today. I lost. Twice. Mike went to a medical professionals get together. One other person showed up. The enjoyed talking “shop” for about 45 minutes.

Received two frantic emails from friend Gloria (San Diego Sue) begging me to book our one way air for our Royal cruise next September. She found a real low price and even though I hate doing this stuff from a cruise ship, I listened. Got one way from MIA to Barcelona nonstop for $514.00. Now AA needs to stay in business.

Joyce: same flight, but mine is on the 25th.

Nothing more to report, so see you in the morning. Land ahead tomorrow. Via tender.

Pia-

I just burst out laughing. on the Star, you offered me a lanyard and I am ashamed... I gracelessly declined. I think I may have recoiled. my first Princess cruise and I just knew I didn't want any such thing. I apologize for not displaying more regret.

we are happy to be home, but the way you describe your days brings forward what we enjoy on cruises as a destination... the sense of no urgency or any obligation to do anything. Tim and I still have more of the world to see, but the reading, watching movies, and dining whenever has surprising allure.

I'm enjoying reading your account of the trip but on some level it's scaring me :D

booked on a full transit on the Island in January. I've been apprehensive about so many sea days but figured that there would be a lot of activities since there were so many sea days. That does not appear to be the case.

I can only sit and read for so long and I'm ready to pull my hair out.

Or maybe I'll just book the Sanctuary so I can nap outdoors on comfy loungers :)

Pia my suggestion for the over flow of trivia winnings. Save them for the next meet and greet you attend. They would make SWELL parting gifts. Hey don't roll your eyes it was only a suggestion. :) Enjoy your cruise.

I love the canal, having cruised 6 times both w and e bound. What bothers me about

Princess is they do not stop at any Mexican ports other than Cabo. Whereas Holland stops

at Hualtuco, Chiapas, sometimes Puerta Vallarta. I think Puntarenas is a waste of time,

love Nicaragua and of course Cartegena.
