Stickman505 Posted September 27, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 27, 2013 I'd appreciate it if someone could explain the most appropriate way to return dirty dishes after consuming a meal in a cabin. I've seen dirty dishes placed on the floors of passage ways but it seems a bit unattractive.
Rare LHT28 Posted September 27, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 27, 2013 I just call the room service number & ask them to pick up the tray If you are going out after breakfast the room steward will usually take the tray away
Rare Scrapnana Posted September 27, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 27, 2013 Most cruise lines ask you not to put them in the hall as they are a safety hazard. If you just leave them in your room they will be removed or ask room service to come and take them.
Rare Keith1010 Posted September 27, 2013 #4 Share Posted September 27, 2013 You should leave the items in the room and call and they will pick them up for you. Keith
Krazy Kruizers Posted September 27, 2013 #5 Share Posted September 27, 2013 On most cruise lines, the cabin steward will remove breakfast dishes. All other meals -- call room service to have the dishes removed. Please don't put the trays out in the hall. It makes it very difficult for people to get by who use scooters, wheelchairs and walkers. sail7seas Posted September 27, 2013 #6 Share Posted September 27, 2013 Call Room Service to pick up the dirty tray or if your cabin steward has not yet cleaned your cabin, he will see to it being removed. Do not ever place the tray in the hallway. It is a moving ship and could cause someone to have an accident in addition to obstructing the passage of wheelchairs and scotters etc
pafam4 Posted September 27, 2013 #7 Share Posted September 27, 2013 When we order room service, we ask where to put the trays when finished. Without exception we have been told to put them in the hallway, so we that is what we do. If you are unsure what to do, I would advise to ask when you are placing your room service order. On one cruise, our next door neighbours left their many room service trays outside OUR door every day. The first time they did this, I stepped right in a plate full of gravy! On Carnival people are told to put their empty trays in the hallway. I'm not sure what RCCL tells you to do (we didn't order room service) ... but the hallways on Oasis OTS was always cluttered with trays. Princess, HAL, and Celebrity we're ask to call when we were finished and they'd come to get it. LuLu ~~~~

I've seen dirty dishes placed on the floors of passage ways but it seems a bit unattractive. they will most likely tell you to leave it in the passageway. I left mine in the room, on the table or bar. but then again, I always had RS before turndown so I knew the steward would take care of it for me. cruiserking Posted September 27, 2013 #11 Share Posted September 27, 2013 I agree and find it nasty to see have eaten bits on someones place sitting in the hallway. We always leave our tray with the plates stacked in a corner of the cabin and either call for room service to take it away or wait for the steward to remove when they clean the cabin. Stickman505 Posted September 27, 2013 Author #12 Share Posted September 27, 2013 Thanks everyone! I think the best suggestion was to put it outside your neighbor's door ( just kidding, honest).
Ashland Posted September 28, 2013 #13 Share Posted September 28, 2013 Room service personal has a master cabin key and can enter when you aren't there...hmmm
springfire Posted September 28, 2013 #14 Share Posted September 28, 2013 We always put them outside, that is what we have always been told to do! With the size of the cabins, I would not want to keep the trays in my room.

Not only is it gross to see, it is a hazard to those walking in the halls. LuLu
cb at sea Posted September 28, 2013 #16 Share Posted September 28, 2013 We leave the tray in the cabin....the attendant will call room service or remove it. I don't leave anything in the hall...it's just gross!
sail7seas Posted September 28, 2013 #17 Share Posted September 28, 2013 Room service personal has a master cabin key and can enter when you aren't there...hmmm  Not on HAL they don't. Room Service stewards cannot enter a cabin unless the occupant opens the door for them. A cabin steward normally will not let them enter..... with some exceptions.
