Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted April 2, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 2, 2015 I've certainly not been in the loop much lately here on CC - but just learned of a new room service menu which is due to be implemented on April 12. There are to be some pay items on it as well. If this has already been covered here on CC, could someone give me a link to the thread(s)? If not - I have no other information thus far. Just read it in an email from a Hotel Director. THANKS, Tom

nchikk Posted April 2, 2015 #3 Share Posted April 2, 2015 I tend usually to not believe "someone said" kind of things, but I'm thinking this has something to it. After hearing about NCL testing a for-fee room service, I asked the brand ambassador to confirm Carnival would not charge for room service. His (or whosever) reply was a bit vague but he (or whoever) did say that there would be more news tomorrow on this, and that the free room service items we have now would not change. ATHENA3 Posted April 2, 2015 #4 Share Posted April 2, 2015 This is what Heald said today, I can tell you more tomorrow but free room service items as you have no will not change. Cheers. Now this sounds like new items maybe a charge.

NYcruzzer Posted April 2, 2015 #11 Share Posted April 2, 2015 Royal's Quantum Of the Seas has very limited free items on their room service menu. Many of their choices have a la carte pricing. Pretty sure NCL's final room service menu will be similar. Guess Carnival is going in the same direction.
nessz79 Posted April 3, 2015 #12 Share Posted April 3, 2015 Ohhhh...interesting! I would be willing to pay for some nicer things on the room service menu. Especially breakfast.
v3cruiser Posted April 3, 2015 #13 Share Posted April 3, 2015 What a shame if they start charging for room service items. I would be okay with paying for hot items though! Most of the food we can get from lido when its open so it seems like we are being charged for something we already paid for in our cruise fair. Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted April 3, 2015 Author #14 Share Posted April 3, 2015 Ohhhh...interesting! I would be willing to pay for some nicer things on the room service menu. Especially breakfast. I followed up after that first tidbit of info from the HD -- commenting how pleased I would be with hot breakfast items added. Sadly, that's not apparently going to be the case. Guess we'll have to wait until John is allowed to spill the beans ! Is Carnival going to be the only line where one can't get actual breakfast in the cabin ? NCL, Royal, and Celebrity all have it... at least in suites. Tom
bury me at sea Posted April 3, 2015 #15 Share Posted April 3, 2015 My opinion only and don't care who flames: opened this door when they started charging for selected items in the MDR. Now firmly down the path of doing away with the all-inclusive cruise. You can pretend they are options. I can see a couple of years down the line when cruise ships are filled with a new group of people. I have a cruise booked for June that I booked in May, 2014. If charging anything for room service comes to fruition it will be the fifth change Carnival has made unilaterally since I booked. It will be time for me to walk away and cheers to you who can't wait for the door to slam behind me.

SadieN Posted April 3, 2015 #17 Share Posted April 3, 2015 There have always been up charge items on the RS menu. Sodas and other bar items. FWIW Princess has one up charge item on its menu---- Pizza is $3.

tropicaledrink Posted April 3, 2015 #19 Share Posted April 3, 2015 JH mentioned while he was on the Pride that it would be rolling out there in a few weeks. As long as I can get my BLT and chocolate cake for free (plus tip), they can add whatever they want!
fyree39 Posted April 3, 2015 #20 Share Posted April 3, 2015 Upcharges seem to be the future of cruising. I don't know that we'll ever pay for a room service item, but as long as Carnival continues to offer inexpensive cruises, I'll put up with the nickel and dining. At least we can choose not to partake.
kdawg954 Posted April 3, 2015 #21 Share Posted April 3, 2015 I like having the options of better choices on the room service menu, even with an upcharge, but also keep my free items and no late late night charges. I can live with this.

bury me at sea Posted April 3, 2015 #23 Share Posted April 3, 2015 Cumulative effect, I have no intention of arguing the merits: Booked balcony cabin in May. July Carnival announced no smoking on balconies. February announced replacing free drink with water. March announced new menu effective May 31 on the ship. No chateau briand, only 2 cold fruit soups and won't go into any other details. March, no chocolate at turndown. If true, charging for room service would be fifth unilateral change. Doug910 Posted April 3, 2015 #24 Share Posted April 3, 2015 ...I wouldn't mind the upcharge for additional items as I have a choice to partake or not. But, I would have a problem with a "service charge" between certain hours (say Midnight to 5 am) as we normally order RS after leaving the Casino around 1 am. Absolutely no reason to pay additional for food at 2 am that is included in the cruise fare at 2 pm!
jonbgd Posted April 3, 2015 #25 Share Posted April 3, 2015 (edited) WTH!!!!!! this BS!!!!!!!! Maybe if everyone tipped RS, like we have over the years, they wouldnt be trying to institute this:rolleyes: Edited April 3, 2015 by jonbgd
