1am Curfew Rules

Hi all,

 

We are sailing on Freedom in August and will have 4 teenagers in our group, ranging from 14-17. I am aware that there is a curfew which is absolutely fine and my teens will abide by and respect that, but I just wanted to clarify what the exact rule was? I understand that they should not be around the ship unsupervised after 1am, but what if they are out with us but wish to go the the freestyle machine, or to get something from the cabin?

 

Not attempting to challenge the curfew in any way, just want to make sure I am clear on it when explaining it to my teens.

If they are with an adult or on the way to/back from an activity they will be fine. The info will be detailed in the compass each day

Security will monitor. They will be escorted back to their stateroom.

OP: I'd say they probably need to stay within eyesight of you. But I don't have any first hand experience.

On our last one our friends son often broke his curfew, as did many of the teens. Yet on another they were rounded up by security and sent to cabins.

Beating the curfew is a game played by some of the teens......they take around a bout route back to the stateroom sometimes.

 

Mine have been late once or twice......i can always find them one their way back and share a late night slice of pizza with them.......

I just tell them that they won't, under any circumstances, be out and about on the ship after 1am unless we are with them.

 

It's our rules reinforcing the ship's rules.

My last time on the Enchantment there was absolutely no enforcement of the curfew at all. Kids were roaming the ship in packs all night.

As above depends on ship weather the rule is enforced. When my grandkids were with me at those ages we would go to the machine together but most likely just order a pop from the bar (which was fun for them as they watched while actual drinks were being made. One Bar Tender use to flip the bottles around while they watched. He had a bottle of OJ under the counter and would give them some in their pop (seven up). He would add a cherry.

 

As above curfew is 1am.

I was on Freedom in June with my 15yo son, and Deck Patrol was pretty diligent about rounding up the teens after 1am. If they're going to get a drink from the Freestyle Machine, they'll be escorted back to their room.

I can't speak from memory. We were on Royal when my son was 13, and he did stay out until the teen club shut down. Probably 1 am I guess,but I am not 100% sure.

 

Like you we would have required him to follow the rules, and I certainly understand just wanting to set the limits with them (all you are asking for). Honestly, I would email Royal directly with your questions. From the terms and conditions I can see and find, all it says is:

This is oddly worded, but if taken as written, no one between the ages of 13 and 19 can be out past 1 am regardless of whether they are with parents or not. Oddly enough as this is written a 10 year old can be out.

 

The only other reference to curfew I see is:

This would suggest if you are out, they should be with you, otherwise they are unsupervised in the cabin.

"1:00am Mandatory Curfew for Guests 17 and under."

 

No expansion on it. But to me "mandatory" means "mandatory".

I've been there, traveling with teens. The rule is that, after 1 am, they are not allowed to be out, unless accompanied by an adult. So, if they want a soda or need something from the room, you need to be with them.

 

The only "official" exception to the rule is that, if they're at a youth activity that ends at 1:00, they can go from that activity back to their cabins. So, you don't need to pick them up from their late night activities. For those first few minutes after 1am, if they appear to be headed back to a cabin, they won't likely be bothered by any crew member.

 

Of course, for us it was never a problem, as we don't see the need for us or the kids to be out past 1am, but I understand that some people are more night owls.

My experience on Freedom in April as well. Deck Patrol was out in full force starting right at 1am.

Thanks spookwife, that's just the clarification I was after. I'm also pleased to see that the young people in the group can remain out past 1am as long as they are in our company, as this is likely on occasion.

You get one FREE warning. Then they fine you $250. The third offense they escort them off the ship at the next port. :D

I enjoy watching the teen patrol dragging the disrespectful teens back to their staterooms. On one cruise there was a teenager from Europe who fought with the patrol stating that at age 17 they are considered adults in Europe and they could not tell him what to do. Now mind you the under aged teen had two beer bottles in his hand.

 

When two officers dragged him the teen told them to F off. I was laughing and the guards said it happens all the time. So I saw the Parent of the teen approach the guards and told them to get the F off my son or else I will sue. Do you know who I am? You better let go.

 

Guess what it didn't stop there as the teen made threats and the Captain came down and made a report and threw the family off at the next port.

 

It was some of the best spontaneous entertainment I had seen. Gosh what an expensive trip for the family who had to fly from the Canary Islands to Europe as apparently the teen was home schooled and am sure is banned from sailing on Royal.

 

Just my 2 cents on what can happen I the curfew is taken a bit too far.

It was some of the best spontaneous entertainment I had seen. Gosh what an expensive trip for the family who had to fly from the Canary Islands to Europe as apparently the teen was home schooled and am sure is banned from sailing on Royal.

 

Just my 2 cents on what can happen I the curfew is taken a bit too far.

I would be cautious about taking this advice.... if the teens come across Deck Patrol while going to get a drink, they will be escorted back to the stateroom. If you're on the pool deck expecting them to rejoin you, and they get taken back to the room by security with no way you contact you..... best to just accompany them to get drinks after-hours.

On the FOS in June. We decided to stroll up to the pool deck before heading back to our cabin. We saw security go over to a group of 5-6 teens sitting out back of the pool. The escorted them from the pool area. Heard one of the kids say that his Mom was going to meet them and sit with them but they told the teens to keep moving. It was about 1:15 a.m.
