Disturbing UDP Side-affects

I'm not sure it's a UBP issue. Ever since we've been cruising, late at night there are full/partially full drink glasses throughout the ship. Even during the day there are drink glasses sitting on window ledges, benches and tables. I can't see what the solution might be? I think they cleanup as fast as they can.

Ssst. The girlfriend always wonders how I can get her a random drink from the "pool bar" so fast while staying in an inside deep in the bowels of the ship.. ;)

Ontopic; haven't seen it much else actually but never for long extended periods. Otherwise being taught as a kid, when unsupervised, not eating or drinking anything strange/from strangers worked for me..

Some people tend to loose their minds on vacation. People who normally pick up after themselves think I'm on vacation, I'm not worried about throwing my trash out. The same people who might have a drink or two in a year at home will get sloppy stupid drunk

My mom tells a story about me, at 3, getting sloshed at a neighbour's party because I finished their drinks!

Now, as a parent, I am very conscious about where I put down a drink. If your kid got drunk today, you'd be in BIG trouble. If today's standards were enforced 30-40 years ago we'd all have been raised by the state! How does Foxworthy put it, "Remember when kids weren't too good to go through the windshield with the rest of the family?"

Seriously though, I try not to waste. Not food, not drinks and not energy. It has less to do with money and more to do with being a responsible citizen of the planet.

I agree with this....nothing new as I've seen this for at least the last 5 years I've been cruising.

That's why I shook my head when they complained about plates being left in hallways....as I've always seen more drink glasses all over the ship.

Because of the UDP if I don't like the drink I wouldn't drink it. The UDP allows me to try everything on the bar menu that appeals to me. I do agree we should put the glasses in a place that young people can't access, excellent point that never crossed my mind.

I don't think the UBP is 100 percent the reason for unfinished drinks to be left around. On my NCL cruises, prior to the UBP, there were a lot of half finished glasses sitting around on top of the trash cans by the elevators, on the stairs, out side of cabins on the room service trays, etc. I think that there are just people out there that don't care about others and just figure someone else will clean up after them; they do it on ships, in hotels, at casinos (my favorite, which I've seen on NCL, is smokers who refuse to use ash trays and flick ashes on the carpet/floor and put out their cigarettes on the carpet/floor), etc.

I think there are lots of people with the UBP who are trying out new drinks and find they don't like them. A couple of sips and it is set aside.

At the last All Inclusive we stayed at in Mexico the bartender at the pool encouraged us to try everything on the drink menu. If we didn't like it then it was no harm, no foul because it didn't cost us anything extra, except for the extra tips we gave the bartender.

IMO, there will always be and have been, drinks left in places, especially on a cruise ship where we are all 'enclosed'. The staff on NCL does a great job of cleaning up but they can't follow every person around.....:)

The onus is on the parents to teach their children not to drink drinks that do not belong to them, for their own safety. If they are drinking drinks that do not belong to them, where are the parents; shouldn't they be watching their children? (Please do not turn this into a good vs. bad parent thread; you could be the best parent ever and things happen to kids.)

I don't think this is UBP related, this is not new behavior on cruise ships.

JMHO.

Happy and safe cruising all!!:D

Yes agreed, however, the drinkers need to take responsibility as well. How about the people who start drinking at 7am and by noon are stumbling around the ship ? Is that a good example for children?

I have left drink glasses in a lot of places on a ship. Especially since there are no designated areas where to put them.

I never left them in the elevator though so maybe I am not a complete slob.

And by the way if you finish the drink quick enough the melted ice cubes alone already look like half of a drink.

No, you can definitely not expect me to turn into a parenting debate because all its takes is less than 5 secs for a parent / guardian to have there back turn for a child to pick up a mudslide, alcoholic pina colada or anything in a elevator.....The things 6 year-olds & under will pick up and touch is scary....

This might be an NCL thing (and something I should prepare my family for). We've been on 7 DCL cruises and have yet to see a drink cup/glass anywhere on the ship w/o owner. Room Service trays we've seen a lot and I've no issue with those so long as they are picked up in a timely manner.

I unreservedly Internet-shame those who purposefully or neglectfully leave their drinks behind, or that get so sh*tfaced that consideration for cleanliness and others is not part of the equation.

I AM sure UBP has dramatically increased this problem 10 fold .

You could find almost any kind of drink in 5 minutes just walking around.

In the day time too.

It Is a shame.:o

IMO, there is a big difference between trying different drinks and deciding not to finish them, vs. leaving your half empty glasses everywhere.

Whether you finish your drink or not, the only acceptable places to leave the glass are on a table, on a bar, in your cabin or neatly stacked outside your cabin door.

Playing devil's advocate here - it really isn't other people's responsibility to make sure your children are safe or are not doing what they should or should not be doing. Some parents do not appreciate other people commenting or watching over their children.

Of course most people will be conscientious for other's safety, but there are ALWAYS those who aren't whether they have the UBP or not.

IMO on a cruise you will always get people who drink and maybe even have 'happiness' going on. It is their prerogative just like it is your prerogative to bring your children to that 'possible' environment. Most cruises have many more adults on board than children so there will always be adult-type behaviors; good or bad. :)

I think exposing children to obnoxious drunk behaviour early helps prepare them for the realities of life. I like my children to witness responsible alcohol consumption and when we happen to come across those that use irresponsibly it is an opportunity for discussion. Altering one's perception should not be taken lightly.

Can't speak for Gem, Jade, Or Getaway , I did not sail on them.

I sailed Dawn, 16 times , I See a big difference on Dawn.

Not a cleaning issue. Yes there are a few plates / trays here and there, same as always .

There are way more near full fru fru drinks than ever.

Perhaps I may notice a little more than most as I am Not a drinker.

Just sayin.
