Skipping Muster Drill on the Sensation

Muster drill took quite some time on the Sensation last Monday. At the end, around 25 cabin numbers were announced. The CD invited them to a special muster drill at sailaway time :D Made me feel a little better about them causing all the rest of us to stand nose to armpit longer than necessary ;)

Why should they wait with the great unwashed while they enjoy another drink on the Lido deck?

 

Glad they were forced to do it... those are the same idiots who would panic and run roughshod over others in a real emergency!

Some ships are now scanning Sail N Sign cards (they did this when we sailed on Magic and Breeze). On the Sensation, they did a head count, and then, I suppose, went room to room looking for stragglers. There is a red door flag stored under the bathroom sink that crew puts in place to show that room has been evacuated. Not sure exactly how they determined who wasn't at muster drill if they weren't found in their cabin, but they must have a way.

My guess is that someday soon, the sail & sign card will have an RFID chips imbedded inside or the wrist bands So the Muster Drill location will be able to tell if you are at the Muster location ( and the right location) at the assigned time.

I'd imagine when Carnival moves to Ocean Medallion, the sensors at the muster stations will automatically count who is in attendance - and the whereabouts of any stragglers would be known.

That appears to still be a ways off. Muster drills are serious things, taking it any other way than that could be a life jeopardy moment. Luckily, the events that lead to that in a real life situation have been extremely small in number. I am always amazed at how so many take these for granted or that the "know better" (which they don't).

When we sailed on the Vista in Europe, they scanned our sign and sail card with a iPad (they also used these for embarking and debarking). My guess it will take a while to roll that out. On our last cruise on the Pride for a NYE cruise, they had supervisors with clicker counting people. Of course, people can get really creative in finding places to hide and act like children......

When we were on the Magic in december they scanned our S&S cards as we came in the doorway of our muster stations. I think that was a great idea because they knew pretty quickly who was not where they were supposed to be.

 

The names were announced and situation remedied pretty quickly as the missing parties showed up slightly embarrassed as they had to walk in front of all those people that were waiting to start muster.

They scanned the sail and sign cards on our cruise on Splendor in December.

I think that part of the terms and conditions should include a fee or fine for those who do not attend muster on time. This lack of consideration affects carnival's bottom line as people can't be having drinks and spending when they are stuck at Muster waiting for others.

You would be amazed. During a discussion with a Hotel Director he told me some of the places. I won't give anyone ideas here tho.

I've been on 4 CCL cruises in the last year, going on Sensation Thursday. They all scanned the Sail & Sign card before the muster drill. No way out of it, unfortunately. They were all fairly quick & efficient.

On the Magic in January, they scanned our S&S cards. After 20 minutes or so they actually announced the names on the people who did not check in over the "all ship" P.A. They announced the muster would not end until the 8 people showed up. We were in the showroom and the people were boo'ed when they showed up.

Just suspend offenders sign and sail card ...eventually they will show up. Just don't make me stand in the heat...safety is important but don't punish us others for the misconduct of others

on the elation they never scanned the cards, i thought wow i could have skipped it , as long as i know the station area to go to.

To me they should scan everyone's sign and sail card. 10 minutes after the announcement for drill anyone not checked should be called. If they don't show up within the next five minutes they should be located and escorted off the ship.
