$7.95 Room Service Charge

Recommended Posts

Hence my comment that as long as the quality of the meal is there, it would be cheaper to order room service than an outing at Johnny Rockets.

Problem is, if you decide you'll go to Johnny Rockets instead of ordering room service you are out of luck late night..

Nothing is open, that's why the so many order room service at that time.

I believe it's $7.95 per order. So if you order a sandwich for delivery, it's $7.95. If, after your sandwich is delivered, you decide you also want a salad, it would cost you another $7.95. That said, I don't think there's a limit to the number of items in an order, so if you wanted 10 helpings of wings, it would still only cost you $7.95, as long as you order them all for delivery at the same time.

This is what I find crazy - one item or 10 it's the same price. If they must start charging for room service fleet wide it would have made more sense to charge by individual item.

Precisely, which is why I was interpreting it as AYCE wings :) I'm going to order the equivalent of 3 or 4 lbs...and eat it all :D (I'm not wasteful, just gluttonous ;))

So when people order 3 hamburgers, four orders of fries, three desserts, three salads it is all going to count as one order? I bet they will rush print something that says "amount limited" faster than they managed to get the price change on their website advertising...:(

I wanted to write this to let people who have already paid and are ready to go on a cruise with Royal that they quadrupled the price of standard room service from 1.95 to 7,95. They did not contact the people going on the cruise I found the info on a small link on this page. I sent an email and complained that was not the rate when we fully purchased the cruise. Because this cruise ship has many bad reviews on the dining very bad for the Windjammer my plan was to order meals in but now at such a high cost it may not be a choice anymore and I don't get a choice of upgrading my room to make it complementary if I would have had the choice to do they if I were told in advance. This is bad business practice and the public should be informed.

This is their response to asking for them to honor the rate that was offered when I booked in advance. ......

Thank you for your email.

Room service is available onboard all Royal Caribbean International vessels. In our commitment to deliver best in class service and give more value to our guests, we have recently enhanced our room service menu. Our new menu will include complimentary Continental breakfast or breakfast items from our American breakfast menu. Our All-Day menu features new dishes, such as our Royal Burger, Classic Philly with shaved rib eye, chicken wings with choice of four sauces, grilled salmon with cucumber mint yogurt, and warm chocolate chip cookies as a decadent dessert.

An convenience fee of $7.95 per order will apply for items from the All-Day menu or American breakfast menu. This convenience fee includes gratuity, and any additional gratuity is at our guests’ discretion. The convenience fee has been introduced to better manage the high demand of this convenient service. While we certainly understand your desire to have the previous pricing honored, we are, regrettably, not able to fulfil this request. We sincerely apologize for any disappointment this may cause.

Mr. ........ thank you for choosing Royal Caribbean International. We look forward to welcoming you aboard in the future.

Sincerely,

Another punch in the face for those of us who were stupid enough to think booking a JS would get us smaller yet enjoyable suite experience.

Junior Suites have never received "suite perks."

All you get with a JS is double points, a bathtub, a bigger cabin, and the suite check-in line at the pier. That's about it.

If, as I expect, this is still in place when I sail, I can guarantee that any time I order room service I'll get way more than $8 of food. Maybe leaving plateful with a note pointing out the issue of switching a free service to paid will help get the point across.

Just a reminder that no JS on Empress has a bathtub ;)

Just go to the dining room or buffet and get HOT food...but the time room service makes it to you, it will no longer be at the right temp. The food from room service is no different than the food from elsewhere on the ship.

I agree that this whole business of having to pay for room service is just another example of the "nickel and diming" of cruise passengers! I keep saying that one day in the near future, the only food "included" will be the buffet.

I only ever order room service at about 3am...so this wouldn't work for me...

Continental breakfast is still free, and what is offered during the day now is a much better range than the previous listed offerings. I can't see anyone living just off the old room service menu for 7 days

What you are missing and has been mentioned a couple of times in this thread is that RCI can eliminate some positions due to the drop in demand - that would likely be a bigger bump in profit than from the charge.

Biker, who did not realize the CC crowd was such a big user of room service.

Nope didn't miss that part. Of course they will cut staff back. This is a savings for them any way you look at it.
