Alcohol Question- Going Against the Cheers Program

We are considering not doing the cheers program. We have two days at sea and those would be the only days we would potentially drink 15 drinks. If we don't do the cheers program would we still get cut off at 15 drinks?

No but remember you don't need to drink 15 to get the value of what the package costs

Right, There would only be two days potentially that we would get to that number. Reason for asking is, we have 3 port days where we know we will be off the ship and drinking ( at least one day at an all inclusive day resort), and we know when we return to the ship we may not even get to the 5-6 drinks. With an average sales price of $7 per drink doesn't pay the per day cost of the cheers program.

It doesn't have to equal out per day. If you did 15 each at $7 on the 2 sea days that's already $420. 4 each on each port day is $168 for a total of $588. Add in any water, soda, specialty coffee, etc and it keeps adding up.

We were on the Vista in February. While we did have the cheers program, we were told by a number of fellow passengers that there is a 15 maximum drink limit for anyone on the cruise (alcoholic) and once you've purchased 15 drinks, you would not be able to purchase any more that day. I 'm not sure if that's true, but we did have some people on the ship that stated they were in that situation on previous nights.

Your reasoning is the exact reason we don't think Cheers is cost-effective for us on most cruises. Worked out well on 4 day to Canada from NY (can only get 3 days - 2 of which are sea days) but on a typical 7 day, no way. On a port day we usually don't have more than 3-4 pp max on board the ship - we might have one or two in port before re-boarding. And even on a sea day, 6 drinks is quite enough for me: bloody mary at breakfast, a couple fruity concoctions in the afternoon, one martini before dinner and 2 after and I am a happy camper. The next day NEEDS to be a sea day...:o;p

Plus we usually have 2 bottles of wine in our room. Neither of us wants milk shakes or extra juice etc. DH will drink the coffees and expresso, but again, just not worth it. I don't think we have ever gone over about $400 on alcohol on a 7 day cruise on our shipboard account.

Only Cheers and the Drinks on Us Card (from the casino) come with the 15 drink limit.

That being said, any server or bartender can cut you off well before the 15 drinks - either with Cheers or without.

Thank You for that response. I am going ala cart and was looking at around 400 as well for us. Couldn't see paying $720.00 when we will be in port and off the ship for 3 days.

We've never purchased the Cheers plan on any of our cruises. We usually buy wine by the bottle in the MDR and only have 2 or 3 drinks a day each otherwise so it's not cost effective for folks like us.:wine-glass::bottle-pop:.

If you don't max out your daily quota, you're not doing it right.

Bahahahahaaaaaa . . . Tef is never boring. :D

I just got off a "sandwich" cruise (4-day getaway) on the INSPIRATION. Essentially, I'm a very light drinker, but used to be a heavy heavy drinker. I found myself in the casino bar for a beer several times and got to know a group all traveling together in 3 cabins that were ALL ON THE CHEERS PROGRAM. I enquired as to the mathematics of it all and got the simple 15 drinks at $10 is $150 . . . cheers is $50 ! What's there to calculate ? They were a fun group. A couple of them bartenders (figures) and to my amazement a couple had reached their quota by mid-evening on sea days ! !

So glad those days are behind me. :)

Don't forget to include the cost of a liver transplant down the road :)

My wife doesn't drink, so I don't think it will be cost effective for us. I'm not a wine drinker, but I will be on this trip lol. I may just order a bottle of vodka as well. I think I could have a pretty large time with 2 bottles of wine, a bottle of vodka and a few beers [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]. Still think I would come out cheaper than $800

I am in a similar boat as well. My wife will drink, but a small quantity everyday, and I plan on having a bottle of Crown Royal in the room along with our two bottles of wine. Just feel it will be cheaper that the total cost of the cheers program.

It's not true. You were given erroneous information.

Thanks AdGuy. Maybe those passengers we were talking to just .....didn't need any more and therefore were cut off. :) I only reached #13 one night so didn't have the opportunity to try myself.
