Galveston weather concerns

Recommended Posts

Yes , many have had their vacations canceled, others will finally debark their extended cruises and find that their cars are flooded or washed away. BUT the people that live there have lost EVERYTHING. Lets remember that , and wish them well!

The Captain just announced we have three medical emergencies onboard and that he's working with the Coast Guard to render aid. That'll delay our departure and arrival in to Miami

This is starting to feel like the Poseiden Adventure.

Ugh, that's going to be tricky. All Coast Guard helicopter assets are engaged in roof rescues. Might have to send a ship if they can't free one up.

I just now called. Got a guy on the phone and when he asked how he could help me I said I was standing in waist deep water on the pier in Galveston and there was no ship.

told him I was kidding but I really did have a reservation.

He proceeded to explain that boarding would be at noon tomorrow and sail at 3. I told him I just watched a Periscope from internetwhiz that said Liberty was going to Miami. I was remarkably in good humor about it and asked him to please check. He did offer a cruise credit but I said I wanted a full monetary refund and asked for a "resolution specialist". I held for a couple of minutes and he came back and said that since the cruise was completely cancelled that I would get a full refund. I went over all the charges but he apparently could not see the reservation any longer and just agreed with whatever I said. He said 3-5 days so I will have to see if we actually get it all or if I have to call again for the extra purchases. Hopefully not.

According to the pilot of Trans Global Airlines he had three million air miles. According to George Kennedy he also had three feet on the ground.

You obviously missed my point. I am well versed on the seating and fare groups of the major carriers and don't need them to be explained to me.

Good thing they got all this rain/flooding - they'll be able to bring the patients directly to the hospital in a boat.

They just announced we're going to Miami. We arrive Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. The Liberty will sail back to Galveston on Friday.

That effectively cancels the cruise that was to start today.

This is sure a big change from be in Galveston today or miss your cruise and we will keep your money. I must congratulate Royal Caribbean on telling everyone to go to Galveston, cause much stress, make people spend a week in a flood zone, and then cancel their cruise.

Everyone had the passengers' safety in mind. Carnival definitely took the more customer friendly path in this case. I am sure Carnival has access to all the same tools and insurance that Royal Caribbean has. Just that in this case Carnival put the customer first. Royal Caribbean put its profits first.

Someone on Facebook, who's on the ship, stated that he thought Miami was technical stop and was expecting to sail back to Galveston with the ship.

If this is true, then I hope they let off passengers who want to depart from there. I say I hope, because you'd expect this to be the norm but RCI has been anything but....

Thank you for saying it so that I didn't have to. My heart goes out to all the people of Houston and surrounding areas. Having lived through a similar disaster myself, I know the horror of what they are facing.

There are a lot of people who have done a 180 based on yesterday's posts and today's posts. I guess you could call this turnaround day.

Agreed. New Orleans wasn't an option but Miami was because RCI is based there. They should have kept us in Cozumel overnight like the Breeze and sent us directly to Miami.

I have dogs boarded and a job. A 7 day cruise turning in to a 10 day isn't a "good" thing. And God knows what they'll do with us when get to Miami.

I thought Royal Caribbean had all the right tool and insurance.

I'm pretty sure he was saying that because that's what they were being told all day.

Seriously, why do people keep attacking and/or insulting the people who are stuck on the ship?

This is how he was characterizing anyone who had a different opinion from his:

If you can't see the problem, there's probably not much I can say to change your mind.

Academic at this point.

I actually understand them waiting to do this. Prior to last night, returning to Galveston late did seem an option. It's the people who traveled there for the next cruise who are in the worst position. They should have given an option to cancel a few days ago, IMO.

But everything changed overnight as the situation in Houston actually went to the worst case scenario and beyond. As far as the cruise next week, I think that logistically, it should be able to happen. But that is dependent on what this system does by the end of the week.

But this only applies to the Royal Caribbean passengers. The Carnival passengers are not nearly in such bad shape.

Well this mess hasn't robbed you of your sense of humor.:p

When you do call for your future credit, since you are so against sailing Royal Caribbean again, which I totally understand, you might want to ask if your future credit could be used on a Celebrity Cruise. Still the same parent company, but many say a nicer experience. Just get it in writing if they say it is a possibility.:)

If the cruise is cancelled, then the passengers are due a full refund.

FB has the Carnival ships headed to Nola. Not exactly sure if they will be better off or not.
