Need to Vent! - Travel Insurance!

I'm repeatedly reading about last minute illnesses, life-threatening situations, sickness while on the ship, etc. People continue to blast NCL for being unsympathetic and heartless because they won't permit a change in dates, refunds, free treatment in the infirmary, etc. FOLKS, YOU NEED TO PURCHASE TRAVEL INSURANCE! If you choose to try to save a few bucks and not purchase insurance, it is not NCL's job to reimburse you, allow date changes, treat you in then infirmary without charge, etc. because you chose to take a gamble and save a few bucks by not buying the insurance.

100% agree with you

Don't think you're "Venting" sounds like you are stating a true fact.

No one knows what can happen on the ship or on the Island(s) which are different countries.

Yes, and the recent hurricanes have made me realize it may be worth it to purchase cancel for any reason insurance in the future. On the other hand, self-insuring the cost of the cruise is fine as long as a person is willing to accept the loss of funds paid. Regardless, the vast majority of people should always purchase medical evacuation insurance.

NCL needs to have a heart sometimes too. Not everyone can afford insurance.

So, if someone can not afford it, then NCL or any other company should just foot the bill?

Guess where NCL get's their money? From us, which means we should pay the expenses of other people. No thanks.

If you can afford the cruise, the airfares and the hotels then it is up to you to afford the insurance.

If people have a house, contents or a car and they are not insured and s... happens why should I have to pay extra on my premiums so they get help? I do not believe in "self-insurance" when it is expected that someone else will "see you right!!"

Wrong. Not in this day and age of entitlement. Everyone is more special then the next and all expect special treatment when they don’t buy insurance and generally if you bitch enough you get something. Very sad but very true

Years ago i never bought insurance. Then about 10 years ago we took a lot of family on a cruise. I decided to get the insurance for everyone as well. My FIL got very sick on the last day of the cruise. They treated him in the infirmary and had an ambulance waiting at the port of Miami when we docked. He was operated on and hospitalized in Florida for 6 weeks. The insurance paid for everything his insurance didn't cover as well as escorted transportation back to NY. I would never not purchase insurance ever again, and very grateful that I did it for the first time on that trip!!

tell that to your the people that have to fix your home if you don't have home insurance

tell that to the people that have to fix your car if you don't have car insurance...

tell that to the hospital if you don't have health insurance

tell that to your loved ones if you pass away without life insurance

tell them to have a heart. see how that goes for you

not sure why you think this is any different

You are so right; the airlines do not have sympathy either. There is a reason for insurance; as you said, take a gamble, it is your decision. Do you think if a tornado hits your home and someone in your family is injured plus your house blown down, the mortgage holder will forgive your loan or someone will rebuild your house for you cause they fell sorry for you? Insurance is the type of money we hope we waste but are thrilled when we need it.

I 100% agree with you. I buy the insurance and then I read someone that says how cruel the cruise lines are for not making exceptions. If they make exceptions, then it is not fair to the ones that do.

We are currently caught up in the hurricane mess. We have a repo cruise that leaves Boston on November 3rd and is supposed to arrive San Juan on the 12. we have no idea where we are going or where we will end. So we could possibly incur flight change fees, loss of hotel fees etc but my insurance will cover it.

Completely agree. It costs around 10% of your trip to have travel insurance. Do one less insurance and ensure you have coverage.

Agree entirely. As a travel agent, I have seen it all. I cringe every time someone refuses insurance. Just this week (and it is only Tuesday morning) I have filed two insurance claims for clients...

Please buy insurance, people. (Now, cruise line insurance vs other travel insurance - that is a whole different discussion. Just know what is covered, please!)

Agreed! I always buy insurance, we're a family of four and it costs me less than $250 for travel insurance for a week long cruise with airfare....worth every penny and the peace of mind if something major goes wrong. I don't necessarily agree with the statement about not being able to afford the insurance...it's not that much added cost to the vacation.
