Full ship wide? I hope so!

Definitely not. We’re on Emerald deck and we didn’t get any medallions. The sensors are everywhere though.

Just got off Caribbean Princess today. Was told Medalion was starting for those embarking today.

Noticed sensors on my balcony, two in stateroom and one in the bathroom. The hot tubs even had 2 sensors IN the hot tub on the decks.

I’m in a regular inside on Regal Princess and I see one in main room and one in bathroom.

Ah, thanks for the tip. Also purchased, for both August 18 and 25. I will ask about an adjustment for Elite once I board. I embark today but I received no offer for the August 11. I will let people know what I find out.

Is this for the Internet? Are you Platinum now? If so, it should be free once they start *****, maybe even sooner.

I just received some text messages from my brother on the Caribbean Princess. He is at the mid-point of a B2B and, so, is in port, today.

As somebody above has already posted, he reported to me that while they are in port the new high-speed wi-fi will be implemented. He did not have a definition of "high-speed." Also, for this 7-day cruise starting today, all Elite and Platinum level passengers will be allowed complementary full-time access.

He did not have much to say about any other Medallion features. It appears that the deck maps that are in every elevator lobby have been replaced by monitors. The menu displays outside of restaurants appear to be replaced by monitors.

He was not given a medallion on the first leg of his trip. It is unclear whether he was given one for the second leg.

I was given a free internet plan that expires on September 2, the day after I disembark. Pad outside the cabins says "Ocean Medallion coming soon"

When we embarked, my photograph was taken twice, once by the standard security camera and and the second, immediately afterwards by a guy with a tablet who was not in uniform, I could see was a very tight close up of my face. Facial recognition software?

No medallion. I just watched two minutes of video on the high speed internet and it didn't hang once. Let's see if it stays that way once all the teenagers on the ship start using it once we leave port.

PS. I forgot to mention in parting post yesterday I had just received (am elite) the 150 page catalog for cruises from April 2019-May 2020 which describes all the various aspects of cruising with Princess. I found only one page on *****, p. 26 which describes ***** vacations without any ships or dates mentioned and

addresses five topics briefly: MedallionNet as best WiFi at sea; OceanNav, keyless entry and directions around ship; PlayOcean, play casino games and other games and Oceanview, watch Amazon Fire, AppleTV, or Roku in your stateroom. There is a concluding statement about privacy and a disclaimer that the Medallion “contains no personal or personal digital information” and yet has safeguards that “exceeds” those used by banks. There is a concluding statement the you may opt out of the “experience” and will be give a card instead. I noticed several conflations and a tiny footnote to check at the time of booking if your voyage is ***** and all is subject to change without notice. I did not got through the 150 pages with a microscope but that was it at first and second glance. Quite different from last years catalog and the reason I believe further discussion of the ***** is futile although I do believe some comments on various threads have helped in their clarification. Mike

I hope you don't disappear. I have enjoyed the first hand comments about your experience.

You and Pierless-Tom spent a lot of time documenting which cabins were enabled, your medallion experience, etc.

and reporting back here.

Appreciated.

Yes internet is unlimited for platinum elite passengers for limited time they say.

We were on the second medallion cruise last November on the Regal and will be on the Regal again next month for our Trans Atlantic it will be interesting to see if it has changed much. We never could use our medallions to get in our room, and didn't use them for much else. I like tech but could live without it.

Its supposed to be next after the Caribbean I think.

I just ran into the hotel director and asked him about the expansion of *****. He said on the Regal by Christmas. He said the Caribbean Princess is ready now.

I really hope that this is the case. Our December 30th voyage has been changed from ***** Vacation to Preview and there will be no compensation consideration. I would expect that you will not see any future voyages on the Regal listed as ***** Vacation until the implementation is complete. There is no sense in suggesting that there is that feature and then having to put out the firestorm.

In frustration a couple of days ago I promised to stop reading or posting on the Medallion thread, someone asked me to stay since I have learned a lot about it and the huge variety of changes in the past year. I have been on the Regal 3 times in that year and I simply offer two pieces of advice which of course you are free to ignore: don’t post until you have read the whole thread, since it will confuse you and everyone else and 2) the new great high speed at certain latitudes on the Internet has absolutely nothing to do with the ***** except Princess is calling it now the ***** Internet....this is to make up for many features of ***** which don’t work and/or had to be dropped. Mike. PS If you want to understand where it was /the ***** and where it is headed this is a good thread. Otherwise it can be very misleading and filled with half truths and rumors as a number have posted

I just recently got off the Caribbean Princess and she is not ready for full *****. On my cruise towards the end they just changed the locks so now you use your card to tap the ipad at each stateroom door. There is still no medallion to use.

If I understand you correctly -- they've installed remote unlocking on all stateroom doors?

That's the last walk-around-the-ship-working-on-1,556-doors task I know of.

Princess is certainly acting like they think they've solved the medallion-sensing issues well

enough to go RTM. Edit: Make that "Release Candidate"

Caribbean may indeed be in final ***** dress rehearsal. (weasel-word alert: "may")

I am on the CB now and my door unlocks by tapping my key against the sensor under the door-side screen. Similarly, I tap my card against the sensor in the slot machine if I want to use one. They are using the two systems side by side for such things as muster drill and logging us on and off the ship.

Some people have medallions.

I understand that on the Caribbean Princess the mail boxes outside of the cabin doors are gone and the mail is delivered twice per day by the cabin steward. Also that the slot to insert your key card is gone. That makes me curious about a couple of things.

Without the key card slot on the door handle where you could insert the "Privacy Please/Please Service My Room" card, what means do you now use to indicate that you do not want to be disturbed or that your cabin is available for the steward to do his cleaning.

So now having you mail delivered means that you will be disturbed twice per day by the steward having to enter the cabin to make a delivery.

Nothing more embarrassing and maddening that stepping out of the bathroom buck naked only to find your steward in your room. I doubt that the stewards like that either.

There is a two-sided hangtag for the door handle. But my cabin attendant came in three times last night (turndown) (leave Patter) (leave ice) and three since I got back from shore in Grand Cayman (clean) (leave ice) (leave debark form). He came in to leave the debark form just now. I may just lock him out after he's turned down the bed in the evening, I rarely want the ice in the evening and he can slip the Patter under the door. (I mean leave the do not disturb sign on)

They slip the items under the bottom of the door. At least that's what our steward did when we were on the Regal. But, then, that may vary by individual stewards.
