some_body Posted July 15, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 15, 2018 Other than the bar, where can you get soda on board? (in this case specificity the Equinox if it matters) Last cruise was in RCCL, and they gave out an insulated tumbler that you could scan at self serve machines. Just wondering if a similar system exists.
Rare cruisestitch Posted July 15, 2018 #2 Share Posted July 15, 2018 There is no similar system on Celebrity. You need to go to a bar for your soft drinks.
UKPete71 Posted July 15, 2018 #3 Share Posted July 15, 2018 You can get lemonade or fruit punch in the Oceanview Cafe for no charge.
Rare cruisestitch Posted July 15, 2018 #4 Share Posted July 15, 2018 In common American parlance, neither lemonade nor fruit punch are "soda". Soda refers to carbonated beverages, and they are not free on board. This word does have some regionality. In some parts of the US, "soda" is the generic term for carbonated drinks, while in other areas this is known as "pop", which is short for "soda pop". "Soda" can also be used to refer to "soda water", as in the drink "Scotch and soda". On Celebrity, you need to visit a bar to get any kind of carbonated drink, (or buy from your mini-bar or room service).
Zigster Posted July 15, 2018 #5 Share Posted July 15, 2018 There are also servers in the Oceanview Café, aft deck outside of Oceanview and pool area to take your beverage order.
some_body Posted July 15, 2018 Author #6 Share Posted July 15, 2018 Thanks for the info. With regard to vocabulary, I’ll refrain from using my hometown’s term “coke” when referring to any carbonated beverage. 😀 I still don’t understand why. Rare Lady Arwen Posted July 15, 2018 #8 Share Posted July 15, 2018 It's "pop" here! I try to remember to refer to it as soda when in the States and on cruiseships, but sometimes I slip. More than once I've received the look of "whaat????"

I knew about that regionalism, and also about the "co cola" but decided that I had taken the American English lesson far enough for one morning :) And what's with calling them all "red pop"? Just wondering if a similar system exists. We're on the Equinox as I type this. No self serve soda machines. You can order from any bar or they have people come to your table in the buffet to take your beverage order. People will come around to you in the pool area, too. And in the dining rooms your server will bring your beverage.

Midway7934 Posted July 17, 2018 #17 Share Posted July 17, 2018 On the Summit as recently as last September, you could purchase bottles of water or cans of soda at the entrance to the buffet port side. I haven't read of any change, but will find out for sure in one week when I am on board.
gsrunyan Posted July 17, 2018 #18 Share Posted July 17, 2018 buy cans of your favorite "cold drink" before boarding and stick a room ticket on the cans. The porters will get it to your cabin about the same time or earlier as your luggage. Empty your fridge and fill it with the cans. This way you don't have to travel some length to find a bartender.;p :) Glenn:cool

Ashland Posted July 17, 2018 #20 Share Posted July 17, 2018 We just returned from the Eclipse and I do love an occasional (soda/Coca Cola)...the can ones (no fountain option) we got tasted nothing like the Coca Cola I'm used to....had a very funny taste and noticed it was bottled in South Africa....just assumed Coca Cola (red can) would always taste the same...it didn't
ClaudiaB Posted July 17, 2018 #21 Share Posted July 17, 2018 Nope. It is going to taste differently because of the different water used. Here in Louisiana we call it all Coke. And then you say what kind of Coke you want.

The best we think is from Mexico (real sugar) and yes I call it coke too (here on the west coast)...actually when in my hometown (Kentucky) I have to refer to it as Pop. I just feel when on these boards I have to spell Coca Cola out ;) I've had my coke all over the world but I must say what I had on Eclipse was the worst
Doug & Cindy Scrap Hunter Posted July 18, 2018 #23 Share Posted July 18, 2018 There is no similar system on Celebrity. You need to go to a bar for your soft drinks. WOW!
