Probably a crazy question but is there a scale on the ship to weight luggage

we are flying home after our cruise in a few days.. We will have one bag to check at the airport and wondered if the ship has a scale that we could weigh our bag to make sure its below the 50 lb max? In the past we have had to move things over at the airport counter to get it right.

There is usually a scale in the gym, but it might not be accurate when the ship is moving. It would still be good enough unless you are really close to the limit. I would suggest weighing the packed bag on the last port day.

Some stewards will have one but who knows how accurate it really is.

 

Strangely we have noticed that coming home our stuff weighs more than going even if we do not buy any souvenirs. Thinking it is another one of lifes great mysteries:)

Go to the gym weigh yourself. Then weigh yourself holding your luggage. Difference is the weight of your luggage.

Go to gym. 50lb dumbell in one hand. Suitcase in other hand. Lift both. Which is heavier?

I can usually tell what 50 pounds feels like. My average suitcase is around 35, so 50 would be very noticeable.

 

If you balance your weight evenly across all checked bags, there would be no point in rebalancing at the airport, right? Anything really heavy like books, etc. can always be put in your carryon too, provided it is not on the disallowed list from TSA.

Personally I would spend the $9 and buy a luggage scale. They're so much easier than trying to drag your luggage to an actual scale.

I cheat. My husband is an Amtrak conductor and used to lifting luggage. He is usually within a pound or two of the airport scales.

If you have a TJ Maxx or Marshalls they have cheap and easy to use pack luggage scales. Its the best thing ever when you travel.

Another vote for getting a hand scale. We carry one with us if we are flying. We just came back from Germany and were able to use the scale to make sure the weight was evenly divided between the bags.

We carry a hand scale now, but in every airport I have been to there are luggage scales in several spots across from the ticketing counters. Before our hand scale, that is where we would adjust our luggage weight on the way back home.

I don't think my one piece of 21" luggage could hold 50 lbs of clothes. Heaviest I've ever toted onto a ship was 29 lbs.

I was always told that your dirty laundry is what makes it heavier. lol But who wants to wash clothing while on a cruise? Dont know if that is true or not, but it kinda makes sense to me.
