Is this just lip service from RCI CEO?

We were on the President's cruise a couple of years ago and Michael Bayley came to the Meet and Mingle. He spent quite a bit of time there answering questions. Probably the first question was about making the casino smoke-free. He said that RCI was "looking into it". I call that corporate speak for "no". I'm guessing that some changes will happen, like better pizza, but others will fall in to the company is still "looking into it" category.

RCI "Looking into it" = a parent telling a child "we'll see" when the answer is an obvious "no' but don't feel like dealing with the whining and hoping within 10 minutes the child will forget what they asked for .

The part about the pizza and desserts improving. I mean they must know everyone complains about the food not being as good as it used to be. Seems like if they wanted it to improve they basically could very quickly. It shouldn't take time for the pizza to improve. I don't know but something about that seemed like lip service.

It may not be the most wonderful thing in the world, but I did see the improved pizza on Enchantment 2 weeks ago. It was better and what I would describe as "good enough" Certainly better than before. I don't know when its being rolled out fleet wide. =

The ship has some limited leeway. One example I remember was from Explorer a few years ago. They offered the Kummelweck (roast beef) sandwich, on the Royal Promenade, right outside of Cafe Promenade. This is something that is normally limited to Park Cafe venues, which are not on Voyager/Freedom class ships.

I would LOVE it if more of the Freedom/Voyager class ships did this. Their sandwich selection in the cafe promenade has gotten worse over the last 5 years, cheaper ingredients. (mainly the protein)

As far as desserts, I honestly can't name one that I would eat more than one or two bites of.

However, I can name a LOT of appetizers that I could eat again and again. I think RCI excels here.

The numbers are useless no matter what you give. Your 5 might be my 7. Someone else's 4 might be another's 2. Numerical grades, without an objective standard are meaningless.

I guarantee that they aren't looking at the numerical value of any grade as having any meaning. More probably, Apparently, 10 is a pass and all other grades are fail. The approval rating they tout are simply that pass or fail grades. How do you determine that a key lime pie is an 9 and the pecan pie is a 6. What is the standard for pecan pie? What if you have never had my grandmothers pecan pie? How can you even think of giving it a 10 when Gran made hers so much better? Food is subjective and the grades are mostly meaningless. So many other things go into the overall grading process. A bad experience on the pool deck in the afternoon can cloud your judgement in MDR that evening.

The only numbers any business cares about are the 10's, which they can present to the world as evidence of satisfied customers.

Sorry, that's not an example of a dessert on Celebrity. I agree on the pie. Crust is warm, but not the filling

I said "all" the desserts were good on Celebrity...they tasted as good as they looked...especially the Bread Pudding and flavorful cakes (many flavors) each day in the buffet.

Freedom had Bread Pudding once during our B2B (in a strange location in the WJ by the international food station ). But they sure had vanilla sauce each night I guess we were supposed to pour that all over the other desserts to give them some taste.

The signage above each dessert was a joke on Freedom didn't match up at all unless you (example) consider a plain cake with no taste with a few sprinkles of coconut on top being called Coconut Cake...very sad comparing the desserts now to several years ago. Even the hand scooped ice cream most servers had no idea what the flavor was when they were asked to give you a scoop

Sad to see the same bad pie served in JR's that they serve in the WJ...it used to be very good/different.

And don't get me started on the "Donut Night" in the WJ that we had no less than four times onboard during dinner. They were hard ball (pucks) of heavy dough with Froot Loop colored frosting and basically no filling or taste and the Churro's could have been used as a weapon...Yuck !!

You're still not giving an actual example or photo of the fabulous desserts on Celebrity. How hard is that? I'm actually curious.

Generalities dont tell us anything

I was on Millenium in April. Will never sail Celebrity again. Food was the worst and ship was a rusted tub. Food on Anthem is 100% better

IMO, that's a far better choice. Give me good appetizers any day! Skip dessert!

I thought the desserts on our Brilliance TA were poor. Of the items on the menu each night, 5 repeated. How many apple pie a la mode’s can you eat? A lot of the other pie choices were toped with meringue— which is fine if you like it. Not so much if you don’t.

I agree—- have another appetizer and skip the dessert, no loss.

Was this in Coastal Kitchen?
No, but it was meal with an officer. I get what your saying.

I'm not saying Royal does great desserts all the time. I'd just like to know some specifics on what's good on Celebrity.

Everything better doesn't mean much

And IMO Celebrity doesn't do great desserts all the time either. Personal tastes.

I only have my one experience this past May on Celebrity Eclipse (great itinerary by the way)...but that was an eye opener about just what's possible.

I wasn't disagreeing with you. Just voicing my opinion. Hell my wife and I always don't agree on all the courses, for our MDR meals (breakfast, lunch and dine) on RC and Celebrity.

Yes, really. Apologies on the photo request.

I'd still love an actual example of a fantastic Celebrity dessert.

Anyone can chime in.

The desserts seem to have too much gelatin in them...making them taste like “fluff and mush.” Even the chocolate desserts don’t taste chocolatey. I guess in a way that is good so that we don’t pack on the pounds:)

Totally agree. I call most of them gelatinous messes. Although I must say, the windjammer on the Anthem has vastly improved their offerings. They still have the deserts that aren't worth the calories but also. some actual good stuff. Love the coffee ice cream when I am lucky enough o catch it.

Wasn't always that way. Royal had some great Desserts 25-30yrs ago...

Back when they had Midnight Buffet every night, one would be the Grand and another a Chocolate Midnight Buffet...

Hi. We just got off the Serenade of the Seas this past Sunday. The pizza was as good as we have ever had on any line, and we've been on Premier, Carnival, Princess, Holland, Celebrity, Disney, and other RCI ships. It was very good, and our desserts in the main dining room were excellent.

Good to hear that! We sail on Serenade this Sunday!

Yes....I fondly remember those days/nights. Good desserts aren't that hard to accomplish if RCI just wanted to.

That website is blocked because it has advertising for travel agencies and because it is just a guy with a website. Too many people think that it is an official site of the cruise line. It’s not.
On several of my post in the last few months it seems that the same thing happens when I provide a link to an image using the Imgur photo sight. I'll try it here just for an example. I have sent several emails to the power players and have never received any response.
