We were saying that we wish we could go back to when we had our stores like Woolies, C&A  and good old British Home stores . Do you have any shops that you miss ?

Littlewoods. The older store in the 60's where you could buy fresh meat, bacon, cheeses and various cooked sliced meats, ham etc. Barnsley had a great store that was always busy.

All great places, Jane (not sure about the BHS, but they did at the time do an excellent Pick and Mix, at least in Plymouth and Ipswich!) but understandably for you, all north of the river! No mention of Brixton Market or Borough Market - before they went posh!

I was living in one of the best and most expensive roads in Clapham, just off the Common - before that went posh too. £4.50 a week for a bedsit, complete with built in mice. £5m now, that house - maybe £50,000 in 1970, scruffy and split into at least a dozen bedsits. Branches of John Lewis in nearby Streatham and Brixton (Pratts and Bon Marché) were the places we used to dream about one day owning furniture.

I bet we both ended up on King’s Road Chelsea from time to time though.  😉

Don't worry Harry. There is a branch in Barcelona. Along with other high end designer shops.🤣

When I was younger BHS did the best fish and chips.

On the other subject,   I love Pizza Express

Ours did them and other wonderous things like shepherds pie but I used to like my pot of tea and a warm sausage roll with flaky pastry that went everywhere as you bit into them .Nice though .

I said to DW this morning " you don't see Telfers pies around nowadays." Washed down with a double diamond.

I have never actually bought anything from Primark but whenever I see one I have to go in just in case there is something that I want.  DH gets really annoyed, he can't see the point if going in if I never buy anything.

So disappointed that Ellie and Vito won Strictly.

If you had tracked the weekly vote on the Strictly Spoiler website, you would not have been surprised, she topped the vote nearly every week, whilst Layton was nearly always towards the bottom.

We buy the odd items in there, but we always take our Viking cruises bag so that folk don't know we purchased anything.  Next time we go to a cruise show we will blag a Cunard bag. We take Celebrity bags on P&O, just for a laugh.

I use our Celebrity bags to take any washing to and from the launderette, because P&O are too mean to give any away.😊

Pre covid we visited the cruise show at Olympia. Got free tickets from a TA. We acquired a good number of bags, including P&O. Got bags on free visits. Spend £4,000 on a cruise...no bag. Perhaps we should boycott them until they give punters a bag. Celebrity give us bags. We have got a Hurtygrooten bag. Disgusting treatment of customers. What do we want ?...bags....when do we want them ?..🤣

We also take Celebrity bags on P&O and Princess.  Last year on Princess our cabin steward gave us a Princess bag which surprised me because we hadn't had them for a while.

Perhaps he didn't want us advertising to opposition

I worked at BHS for 20 plus years and miss it terribly. It was a really friendly place to be, shame greedy green sold it to an absolute idiot!! I also miss our Lewis's  with their lovely food Hall, the smell of freshly ground coffee. Visiting Santa in his grotto at Christmas was just magical.

My sister and I often moan about the loss of BHS.  Lewis's was our favorite place for getting coffee when we were in Hanley.

We were always taken to see Santa in Lewis's as children and loved the walk through the grotto.

We used to take my niece's children to see Santa at Bridgemere when they were small but when DH and I took my god-daughter's son there last year we were very disappointed it was more grotty than grotto.

I think that children are missing out on so much these days, not allowed to sit on Santa's knee anymore, no lovely grotto and do they get any present when visiting him? It used to take weeks to build the grotto in Lewis's (I worked there as well) the window displays, everything was so different and innocent then, how times have changed and not for the best.

You could buy a present from Santa at Bridgemere and they do a "Breakfast with Santa" but we didn't partake so I don't know what it was like.
