last night I sent an email to Seabourn, requesting a status update. I just received from them a detailed listing of my deposit charges

Lucky you - they won't answer my emails or my phone messages.

I have a dispute with CC that they have to answer to by the given date or else.

My TA spoke with SB yesterday and was told that my tax refund was processed on 5/27 but may take 10 - 14 business days to appear on my CC.

I say BS until I actually see it. I've heard similar talk from them a month ago. All 3 refunds from Oceania posted 3 or 4 days after they were processed.

This was cancelled on 2/27 - that is 97 days ago. Will I be the first to a 100? 😀

I know I'll be the first never to give them another penny.

OK folks.  I took a shot and sent the following email to Seabourn today, with the latest table attached.  I think it is self explanatory.

Dear Seabourn.

I am a very loyal Seabourn customer and – like may others – were greatly disappointed when my May cruise was cancelled.  I clearly understand the unprecedented nature of this situation and the difficulty it puts on Seabourn and others in the cruise industry. Clearly this was a sad development for all concerned – the passengers and all those employees of Seabourn both on land and on board.

I am also a rather active poster on the website  Cruise Critic.  I created a post which has received a lot of involvement from other Seabourn customers. To date there has been over 14,000 views of the thread,   I asked people to report three things: The date of their cancelled cruise; the date they requested a refund and the date they received a refund. (People would return to he thread to update when they received their refund.)  I then started, and continue to update, a table with the data and post the updated table periodically .

I recognized that this is anecdotal data.  It is self reported and can contain errors or exaggerations.  It also is a relatively small sample compared to the universe of transactions that Seabourn processes every day. I also recognize that there are a myriad of factors that can influence the timing of refunds, many more than I can possibly imagine.

As you can imagine, the comments range from support and patience to disappointment and anger.  Much of the discussion is reasonable, some not so much. If there is one overwhelming question it is this:  why is there such disparity in the length of time it takes to receive refunds? Perhaps you might want to respond – either through me or through a direct comment on the Cruise Critic thread:

Thank you for your consideration.  Please stay well

Thank you!! It will be interesting to see if they respond. Its discouraging to see people that cancelled after when I did, and got their refund while I wait.  Don't get me wrong, I am thrilled they received their monies, but what order are they doing the process in.  I am sure we will all get through this.

Fantastic!!!!!   I can’t wait to hear if they respond!

BTW - I noticed our Nov 7 Cruise was not listed.

it was cancelled on 5/6/2020.  We are waiting for FCC only.  Was that why it was not on the list?

Also, I’m curious.  We have two flights that need to be cancelled because our November cruise was cancelled.  I have yet to call the airline because if they cancel or change the flights I may be able to get my money back.  If I cancel I will have a change fee at best, because they are non-refundable tickets.  Did any of you have airline tickets to deal with because of a cancelled flight and will Seabourn pick up the change fees? (if I would live long enough to collect them.....)

I am also waiting to cancel business tickets I paid for R/T Vancouver and business tickets with miles to Athens. Waiting for United to waive change fees...

Linda,

United has waived mileage ticket change fees, at least through December.

FYI, I've sent you a couple of emails that were bounced back as undeliverable.

Thanks JPH!  You are the best!  But I doubt if SB will respond because they have never had a presence on Cruise Critic, and their office seems to be short-staffed and in chaos.  Nevertheless, your efforts are much appreciated!  Solidarity!

Totally agree.  Of all the refunds received, there are only 2 who had to wait over 80 days.  And yet there are a fair few people over that 80 day mark waiting, of which I am one.   The lowest number of days to wait was 46, well... I am on the way to double that!

I also want to echo your sentiment about being delighted that people ARE getting their money back!

I have asked if my two back to back cruises could be paid together so that I don't have to repeat the whole thing again two weeks after receiving a refund, but it is in the hands of SB and there is nothing SB UK can do over here.

I really must step away from my banking app, I'm trying to limit myself to checking twice a day!

4 Weeks after our Refund came through to CCs, our TA finally got approval of our FCCs.

You will be disappointed to note that the FCCs are not worth their value, as TA Commission has already been paid, meaning that TA Prices are not as low as expected (checked with 2 major Cruise Specialists).

We got £ 2,581 Price Reduction, for a £ 2,900 FCC, an 11% hit, so, our total FCCs of £ 7,686 became worth £ 6,840.

Also, we were not aware that the FCD of 5% reduction only applies to the Cruise Fare, AFTER Taxes, Fees & Port Expenses.

Nett result: Paying £ 2,500 more than anticipated......about the same as the profit so far on my Carnival Shares 🤣.

Just a thought. Since Chris Austin is still vp of marketing, might we consider sending this also to him.

We could try   caustin@seabourn.com   or caustin@hollandamerica.com

Just a thought

yes - I had not intended to track FCC "refunds" , but only cash refunds.  I did not want to further complicate things with what is most likely a different process.

I will forward the email to him.  I sent it to two generic mailboxes: guest relations and PR.

Thanks so much JPH814 for all your efforts.  We are now "top man" on the  list with 87 days and no credit.  We, too, are happy for those who have received theirs but still wonder why others have gotten theirs for later cruises and later request dates:(

Also, we were not aware that the FCD of 5% reduction only applies to the Cruise Fare, AFTER Taxes, Fees & Port Expenses.

That's always been the case, at least since we've been sailing with Seabourn.  Same goes with any travel agent discounts you might get.

Thanks Zelker. We have only been on two Seabourn Cruises so far, so a lot of this is new to us.

On a brighter note, we have just booked Norway & The Baltic for July 2021 (instead of rebooking Sydney to Singapore, as less risk for us).

For what it’s worth, I called seabourn today to check. They said my March cruise should have been refunded by now and it must have fallen through the cracks somehow. They said it is now in a different queue That deals with errors. I’m not sure what to believe but for now I’m trusting that it is going to be dealt with. We shall see.

I know I'll be the first never to give them another penny.

Paulchili, there's no doubt that SB has let you down.  We're in the same situation with Crystal and we're seriously ticked off.  But we have FCC that has some value and we'd like to use.  Will you let your FCC with SB expire worthless? Or will you give them another deposit so you can use your FCC?

Not Paulchili, but I am familiar with Seabourn FCC. When they expire after four years, one gets a full refund. That is, if Seabourn is not bankrupt.

I don't believe anything I hear from SB.

I called today and surprisingly got through reasonably quickly.

I am waiting for a refund of $2556 in taxes. A few days ago I got a credit of $2196 on my card. My question was what does this represent as it doesn't match either the taxes ($2556) or air changes fees ($2400+).

I was told that my $2556 "is in the queue" - a line I've heard about a month ago. I asked why has it not been sent as it was claimed on 2/27 (98 days ago) and what was the $2196 for. I was put on hold for over 45 minutes after which I was told I have to ask my TA as that was a TA booking.

This is info the agent would have known from the beginning when I gave my name and booking number.

So I spent an hour on the phone without any meaningful answer.
