Well, yuk.  We were so excited about our Zuiderdam cruise to Hawaii and Tahiti, but will now have to cancel because it is being replaced with the Koningsdam.

Not willing to spend hard earned money to be on a ship with smoking in the casino, which then travels around the open areas.  The lack of smoking in the casino on the Zuiderdam was what convinced us to take the cruise in the first place.  Very disappointed.

I would assume that ig HAL went smoke-free in the casinos on some ships, it would be smoke-free in all of them. Nieuw Amsterdam was smoke-free last week.

they will not be available for viewing, other than maybe looking at inactive, until HAL finishes moving everyone around.

And by the time they fit the 2022 disapointees and those who are already booked on the 2023 (had it been opened for booking?), there won't be any cabins left.  I am really curious to see the WC prices on a Vista ship.

I have spent over 40 days on the Kongingsdam and their ventilation system was great.  I don’t smoke but I could actually walk through the casino if I chose to with no issue.  The smoke did not (in my opinion) travel to open areas.

I loved the ship.  Wasn’t sure if I would but I kept going back on her!    I hope you’ll give it a chance.

I loved her as well! Can't wait to go back!

2023 World Cruise has been open for booking for quite some time and was close to being fully booked as well.

We have been booked on the 2022 South America\Antarctica Grand Voyage and the 2023 Grand World Voyage.  Does this mean that I will doing both voyages simultaneously in 2023?

Yikes!  It appears so.  I suppose you have a decision to make now.

It will be interesting to see how FCC’s options for the change plus old FCC’s that expire (we’re 2020 WC orphans) for regular WC folks & new bookings.

Plus, I was under the impression that the 2022 and 2023 WC’s were pretty well booked. So…a ship holding approx. 1400 pax being replaced by another ship with 1950 pax leaves quite a “juggling act” for HAL adding up the manifests for both the 2022 and 2023 WC’s IMHO ( even considering the approx, 600 yearly WC voyagers.)

Stay tuned, I suppose.

Be well & best of luck to one and all involved.

Bob

Here’s the policy.  Different for certain ships, so if you don’t like being around smoke, be careful what you book.

For the comfort of all of our guests, all staterooms (cabins), showrooms and most other indoor areas are designated non-smoking. No smoking of any kind will be permitted on any stateroom verandah.
Smoking is permitted in designated smoking areas only on all ships.

Designated Smoking Areas
Eurodam, Nieuw Amsterdam, Noordam, Oosterdam, Westerdam, Zuiderdam
    •    Sea View Bar area
    •    Oak Room (Noordam only, including cigar and pipe smoking)
Koningsdam, Nieuw Statendam
    •    Sea View Bar area
    •    Casino (designated nights, active players only)
Volendam, Zaandam
    •    Sea View Bar area
    •    Sports Deck, outside Crow's Nest
    •    Casino (designated nights, active players only)

Cigar and pipe smoking is not allowed anywhere inside the ship; it is only permitted on the outside decks where smoking is otherwise allowed.

Electronic cigarettes are not permitted in staterooms or in other public areas of the ship other than designated smoking areas.

Any guest who smokes inside staterooms or on verandahs in violation of our policy will be charged a US$250 cleaning fee per day of violation and will risk being removed from the ship for repeated violations.

Holland America Line reserves the right at any time to modify the smoking policy onboard or alter the locations where smoking is permissible.

I wonder why the Westerdam was not mentioned in the press release?

Nor was the Oosterdam or the Noordam.

I think is the beginning of the end for Volendam and Zaandam. Maybe Fred Olen will take them too.

Too negative of a thought in my opinion.  Fred. Olsen is still "digesting" their acquisition of Rotterdam and Amsterdam.  They are a smaller company than HAL/CCL.  I don't think it is likely that they would have any interest in either the Volendam or the Zaandam.

For us world cruisers, it's time for a bit of realism.  How could one not understand that sooner or later that a ship of the Vista, Signature, or Pinnacle Class would pick up the banner of being the ship that sails HAL's world cruise?

The Zuiderdam's amenities offer more for the guest in some areas than the R Class ships did.  Specifically, for me, the Greenhouse Spa with the Hydrothermal Pool and Thermal Suite.

For the first time on a Grand World Voyage our guests will be able to book a verandah stateroom category, which makes for spectacular scenic cruising, breakfast with a view or relaxing outside without leaving your stateroom."

Huh? Can someone help me understand this one? Amsterdam and Zaandam have balconies/veranda cabins. So do all the others.

My thought is the verandas will be less expensive on the Zuiderdam. We have cruised the South Pacific twice on the Amsterdam and couldn’t begin to afford a veranda. Our SP 2022 Cruises are on the Zuiderdam (I hope) and we have an aft veranda for both cruises.
Cheers,  Denise

Hopefully, due to more of them.
But he is specifically saying for the first time they are bookable. It sounds like he’s saying they didn’t exist. Were they only guarantee before?

It is bound to go up.

Maybe for 2023 but after that the Zuiderdam holds 480 more guests so I actually think the price will come down.  2023 pricing will be screwy as its three WC rolled into one.

No you could always book a veranda. It was just my take on what he said.

On Zuiderdam veranda cabins is an actual category of cabin.  On Amsterdam they were Vista and Neptune suites.  It’s kind of a meaningless plug as both ships have balconies.

Thank you.

Then I believe the PIO or Grammar Police would have written, “For the first time our guests can book a Veranda cabin.”
