I just shortened the link and provided a title.
10 covid cases detected on cruise ship returning to New Orleans

The cruise line said they are abiding by the quarantine and isolation protocols as more cases are identified on the ship

Looking forward to more information about this especially with the strong Covid requirements that NCL has in place.

Im wondering if NO was relaxed a bit on the requirements or not.  Im also hoping its handled well and doesnt end up bigger.

A covid outbreak on board a cruise ship is of course not what you would like to happen when cruising, BUT it is important to remember that it is NOT like the "cruise ship covid cases" from spring 2020,  as now all passengers on NCL are vaccinated and therefore very unlikely to become seiously ill from covid. As NCL of course is following protocols regarding qarantine, isolation, etc hopefully this will not have a strong impact on future cruises (allthough the next cruise on the Breakaway may not go as planned). It is important to keep some optimism regarding the outcome instead of expecting "the worse scenario" from the beginning. But of course, try to be realistic as well.

Feel very sorry for those who get their vacation plans on the Breakaway ruined because of this...

Am I out of the loop?  Got back from the Gem last week and we didn't have disembarkation testing.  Does everyone get tested at the end now?

If there is a covid outbreak on the ship.  Read the headline.  It will get you back in the loop.

New Orleans has the highest vax rate in Louisiana and some of the tightest covid restrictions in the country.

I understand the headlline.  But why were these people tested?  Were they feeling ill and showing symptons?  If they were, there must be a lot more asymptomatic people onboard.

Thus why everyone is getting tested when they disembark.  The results will be interesting.

Not much info currently.  The article from 8:19 last night is about it.  Just watched local NOLA news .  There report was basically a recap of the story reported yesterday.  We did get an automated call on our cell phone around noon yesterday.  "Important info from NCL:  Embarkation for Breakaway tomorrow will be delayed.  Please do not arrive prior to 12PM & add 2 hours to your selected embark time."  Received at 12:47 yesterday.

Our testing slot today is 9:30 -10AM.  We are going to walk down to Marriot where we are supposed to get tested around 9am and see what we can find out.   The message they sent us is very ambiguous and certain to lead to mass confusion among those of us hoping to embark on our cruise from NOLA today.

This is exactly why we need to stop testing vaccinated people with no symptoms.

Well.....hell!     I can't see the ship getting turned around and underway for the next sailing any where near on schedule.  Hope NCL Covid procedures prove me wrong.

You realize ships have covid cases all the time, right?

That's the issue.  The ships don't really have the infrastructure to test 2500 people.  They're used to testing, maybe, a couple hundred foreign travelers who require it.

If the rules change, NCL will need to staff up in order to test and process all those pax the evening before disembarkation, otherwise there will be chaos.

Nope. Some passengers were feeling unwell and were tested. Close contacts are tested. 10 passengers and crew were positive. Royal had 6 passengers on a couple of cruises and didn’t miss a beat on the next cruises.

This is why we should do more testing of vaccinated people. They feel “safe” while spreading the virus. Greater than 10 people are walking proof of this.

Although most covid vaccines have a relatively high efficacy, they have never been touted as providing 100% protection.  According to several studies - and as observed in real life - a vaccinated person has a chance (some studies estimate it to be about 14%) of contracting covid.  And, since it does seem that asymptomatic people can spread covid, wouldn't it be beneficial to test those who are known to have been exposed to determine if they have contracted covid and be potential spreaders?    For example, someone getting off the ship might be headed home to meet - or even live with - older relatives.   Knowing if they had contracted covid would allow them to take precautions to protect their family members as well as others.  My additional thinking is that NCL is working to avoid the negative publicity of "releasing" covid infected passengers into New Orleans.  If no one else tests positive, NCL can assert that their protocols work.

Well, this will be an interesting story to follow.

How many tested positive on disembarkation?  Level of symptoms?  What were the protocols (car, hotel, air, etc.)?

Impact on subsequent cruise embarkation?

Those experiencing the above, please chime in when you can.

Thanks.

Basis of this claim?

We sailed on an international cruise where 100% of the passengers were tested before disembarkation. They had 3 Eurofin nurses along with a few non-medical helpers managing reservations, checking people in and keeping people organized. Not a big deal.
