Good morning.  Thanks for the Fleet and Daily Report.

 

It's going to be a hot humid day here.

 

I'm not much of a beer drinker.  I've got clean underwear!  I rarely eat oysters.

I'm not sure what the meal is, looking forward to seeing the recipe.

I hope the drink and wine are tasty.

I've never been to Bordeaux, but I like their wine.  Thanks in advance for pictures.

Thank you for the TGIF report, Rich.  I'm not sure what to think about the quote.  I don't think I've been to Bordeaux and definitely not on a cruise.  I'll celebrate Underwear day but pass on the beer and the oyster as well as the Pempek as I don't eat seafood.  My alternative is Melange of Tropical Fruit, Chilled Peach Soup and Three Peppercorn Crusted NY Strip Loin Steak which would have been my choices on MS Prinsendam August 2, 2011 if I had not had a big lunch in the Pinnacle Grill.

Good morning, everyone.

 

It will be cooler today but still muggy.  Thunderstorms are expected this afternoon.  The sky looks threatening right now and I hope it holds off until I get my laps in.   Donna is being given antiviral treatments for her Covid.   I'm hoping she'll feel better soon.  Underwear is important.  Clean underwear is the best!  A nice cold beer after working in the yard is wonderful.  I used to put a cold beer on the back stoop when I was mowing the yard.  I'd go down a row and come back up for a swig of the beer.  Down, up, drink.  The rows were a little crooked by the end, but I was happy.

 

Pempek, mpek-mpek or empek-empek is a savory Indonesian fishcake delicacy, made of fish and tapioca, from Palembang, South Sumatera, Indonesia. Pempek is served with rich sweet and sour sauce called kuah cuka or kuah cuko (lit. vinegar sauce), or just "cuko". Sometimes local people also eat the dish with yellow noodles and diced up cucumber to balance out the vinegar's sourness.  

 

Pempek dough is made from a mixture of boneless ground fish meat, most commonly tenggiri (wahoo), with water, salt and sago flour. Sometimes, people also add a little bit of cooking oil and/or wheat flour to improve the texture and to make the pempek not too chewy, they also add MSG to enrich the umami taste. Ikan gabus (snakehead) is also commonly made as pempek. Numerous pempek sellers and producers in Palembang use a cheap combination of fish, which has a strong scent. According to tradition, the best tasting pempek are made of belida or belido (Chitala lopis), but due to its rarity and superior taste, pempek made from this fish are usually more expensive. Pempek in Bangka Island are made from mackerel (ikan kembung) and its sauce is red chilli based, while in Jakarta or other cities they could be made from gourami fish. The latest variant is pempek udang, pempek made of minced shrimp originated from Sungsang area in Banyuasin near the Musi river estuary, it is noticeable with its pinkish color.

The dough is boiled in hot water or steamed until hardened as partly cooked dumplings, and stored to be fried later just before serving.

I don't know that I would go through the trouble of making this dish, but I would certainly try it if I saw it on a menu.

Today's sunrise is another from my 2018 Grand Alaska/Panama journey.  On August 5 I disembarked MS Westerdam in Vancouver beginning a journey to San Francisco, Crystal Symphony, and New York.

Thank you for the Daily Fleet Report!  We had a fabulous thunderstorm here last night.  We even lost power for approximately 30 minutes. I am really enjoying reading about Little Shadow and how she is getting used to her forever home.   @kazu if you read this,  we bought an "inexpensive" Hisense  fridge last November and it has not had any issues, so if you are looking at fridges, check this one out.  I think Cost co has them if you are a member.

Chee Chee cocktail:

 

Ingredients
1 1/2 parts Maker's Mark® Bourbon
1 Blood Orange, Slice
1 Amarena Cherry
1/2 part Marsala, Dry
1/4 part Averna® Amaro


Instructions
Muddle the blood orange slice with the cherry in a shaker. Add the Makers Mark® Bourbon, marsala and Averna® Amaro. Add ice and shake vigorously. Serve neat in a glass or over ice.

Wow, National Underwear Day. That’s celebrated everyday at Icy Straits, Alaska at the +1,000 ft tall zip line. I rate the zip line three (3) underwears. 😳 No explanation required.

Then I want to try loading my vaccination records into VeriFLY. I had loaded the trip into it in June, but the vaccination record “button” has been grayed out. Someone on CC was helping another member and said we have to be within 30 days of the trip to do that & suggested they remove and then reload the trip. So I am going to try that today.

This superb Burgundy Pinot Noir is very elusive & pricey. I found two online distributors with prices starting at $125.00. I would love a taste though.

A very early good morning from a breezy central Texas.  The sun is not even up yet.  We will be leaving for Dallas and DH's appointment about 8:30.  On our dry run Tuesday, it took us about 1 1/2 hours, but since we have to be there by 11 am, we are planning on allowing extra time since there was construction on I-35E and it is Friday.

 

I used to like beer on hot days, but in the last few years, I've lost my taste for beer.  Underwear is good and clean underwear is better.  I like fried oysters and oysters Rockefeller, but not raw oysters.

 

The quote is interesting.  We'll pass on the meal and the drink.  I'm would like to taste the wine, but I would not pay that much for it.

 

@kazu  Jacqui, I hope today is a better day for you.  Celebrate how far Shadow has come since she arrived at your loving home.

We have been to Bordeaux three times on the Prinsendam, and we docked in Bordeaux.  We have only sailed by Le Verdon entering and leaving the river.  This is what I posted on July 11, 2021.

 

We have been lucky enough to visit Bordeaux three times on the Prinsendam, in 2011, 2016 and 2017.  In 2011, we were there for a full day and took a tour to Cognac.  We did get a few pictures of Bordeaux after the tour.  In 2016 and 2017, because of the tides, we arrived mid-day and sailed mid-day the next day.  On those visits, we toured the town on our own walking and taking the tram.

In 2011, the Prinsendam reached the pilot station early the morning after leaving Bordeaux.  Because the station is so far from where the pilots board and disembark the ships, it is done by helicopter.

Happy Friday Dailyites!  I do have a couple of NA beers in the fridge....they have been there for more than 2 years. I love clean Underwear, and I question Oyster Day.  I have always been told to only eat oysters in months that have the letter  R in it.  So maybe the Oysters are celebrating, and we are celebrating with them by not  eating them.  ??

 

@dfishThank you for the recipes and information.  I will pass on todays. I remember Paula Poundstone once saying that healthy foods have three or less ingredients.  Chocolate cake was healthy because it only contained three ingredients, chocolate, cake and frosting.

 

We seem to have a highly intelligent creature living in our yard, or at least visiting the car port every night. Who apparently really likes cat crunchies.  We were leaving a bowl out at night for Fawn and her new friend Mr. Bubbles,  but at night the bowl is wiped out.  DH decided to put the bowl in a storage locker, and the creature learned to open the locker and get the food out.  So DH decided to put it on the top shelf of the locker, and on Tuesday, the creature, opened the locker, and climbed up the tools, and took the bowl off the top shelf.  So on Wednesday we moved the food to the very top of another locker, and creature apparently figured that out, and tried to climb up to it by using a bicycle that was leaning against the locker.  The bike fell over and scared it, but this morning I noticed the other locker was open, and the tools were pulled out.  This is one desperate critter.  Now I hide the bowl in the container of bird seed and Fawn's other food is in a storage room.  This must be one heck of a critter, because Fawn is no longer sleeping on the car port at night.

 

I wanted to celebrate chocolate chip cookies yesterday, we had to pick up my meds, and there were cookies (Pepperidge farms, DH's favorite) but 8 cookies were more than 6 dollars, and it finally hit DH that prices are rising, and that was not a necessary item.  I thought they were a necessary item, but since he pays for the groceries, we came home without cookies.

In 2011, we were in Bordeaux for a full day without an overnight.  This allowed us to take a tour to Cognac and to Hennessey.

 

Before the pictures of Cognac, here is one more of the pilot being lifted off the Prinsendam.  He had a harness that went under his arms.  He did not hold onto the harness, but kept his arms straigt.

Our tour to Cognac took us to the Hennessey Distillery. The bus dropped us off at the visitor center where we boarded a boat to take us across the river to the distillery.

We then went back to the visitor center for a tasting where DH got my sample.  Follwing that we had lunch at this restaurant, and as the name says, we had chicken.

After lunch, we had some free time to wander around Cognac.

We found the flower market, which was basically closed by the time we got there.

@Quartzsite Cruiser-Lenda, I think so too.  I was seeing a mom and her baby recently.  DH says I should take all food away at night, that I should stop feeding the possums, but I love raccoons. and possums.  If left on their own, what would they eat?  I love all animals except for bugs when they bite or sting, and snakes, not big on snakes.

Good Morning from a warm and sunny day at the beach

     I just bought new underwear for DH,DD and myself for our upcoming trip.  So good to celebrate. Never cared for beer and have not had an oyster in a long time, although I do like them.

       My eye shot was bothersome yesterday. My eye ran like a river all day. Does that sometimes. So I was in wearing sunglasses with the shades down all day. Fine today!  

       Today is our 44rth wedding anniversary.  Where did the years go? We are going out to a late lunch this afternoon in between the lunch and dinner crowds.  We try to avoid crowds as much as we can. It is outside so it will be nice. 

      Golf tomorrow morning. We will be first off so hopefully there will be a little breeze. Havent played all week which is very unusual.

Good morning. We have been to Bordeaux twice on the Prinsendam and always enjoyed our visits. I have not had oysters in a long time but love them. I also used to love beer but have not had any since drinking and I parted ways many years ago.

This morning everyone but Tana tested negative. The nurse yesterday was hoping she would start to feel better by next week and we are all hoping for that.

Happy Friday!  John is already out fishing with winds to pick up soon. Our trip to the fair was disappointing.  The last time I had gone to the fair was in 2007. It had gone noticably downhill with the animal barns about half what they were in the past, ditto with the farm produce.  There were a lot of floral, food and craft exhibits.  People are getting further away from farming. The trip was topped off with a pizza from our local bar. We had a surprise visit from friends who have a cabin 6 miles away.   It was a short visit but it was great to see them.  They farm in Indiana and are one of the all too common families who are raising grandchildren, in this case their great grandchild.  I feel for them, they have to return on Sunday as school starts for her on Monday.

 

@Quartzsite Cruiserthank you for the photos of Bordeaux.   We were there for a week by land taking the train down from Paris.  We saw more of wine country but we did drive around the city a bit. We had a misadventure when we couldn't figure out how to put the car in reverse so we were heading back to the train station to get instructions from the rental car company.  We made a turn one street too early and ended on a dead end.  Tough with no reverse. A young family stopped and although the language barrier he was able to look at the shifter and find the reverse for us.  The rest of the trip was beautiful.

This morning everyone but Tana tested negative. The nurse yesterday was hoping she would start to feel better by next week and we are all hoping for that.
